Every nation and civilizations have had laws---the laws to build up on---the laws that hold the foundations together for years to come.

Chopping of hands is not only shariah but almost every other civilization adopted it for stealing----. In our dear old great britain---the thieves would be skinned alive---the skin filled with hay and hung outside the city walls for people to see. Horse and cattle rustlers were hanged in the usa---in china and japan the punishments were equally severe.

Each nation has had a reason to establish these ruthless laws---the reasoning behind it is to establish a society which fears the state---the threat of a ruthless and brutal reaction from the state makes men stay away from trouble as much as they can. The state enforces severe punishment to protect law abiding citizens to live secure and protected lives.

And as much I have praised Musharraf at times---I have called him a coward when it came to providing justice to the weak and the meek---. And as much as I have disagreed with the Sharif brothers---I have praised Shahbaz Sharif---for he was extremely ruthless on criminals.

Even though no system is perfect---the societies who in their past had enforced ruthless punishments for crimes have developed into more civilized and developed societies of today---the communities who have lagged behind has wandered off into far oblivion.

The successful communities like britain, france, germany, europe basically, usa, australia, japan, china---these are basically communities where the ruthless implementaion of law enforced upon the public for the longest---has kept the situation of law and order under control.

Now---coming back to the article---it was a senseless and stupid article when it was written---and it has not changed any bit when it got posted here. If the military personal don't want to serve any liquor---it is their choice---. If the gathering is not mixed---it is their choice---.

I think the author should focus more on writing about providing basic justice to the poor and the needy---.

If the writer is Paracha---then most of the time----he is using stolen material---and claiming it as his own.

Why does being liberal have to be related to serving wine and alcohol---. You can still be liberal and hold your values.

My little brother is going for PMA this year. He is an ex-Abdalian,has spent 4 years at CCHA. He and his mates are 'programmed' to be fauji's. I have seen their standard of education with my own eyes.

I have years of forigen education under my belt,but i was still envious. They call the drill master 'Abba' as they are raised from boys to men by their Army instructors.

Eventhough they have a strong 'secular outlook', but by talking to dozens of them from every concieveable ethnic background,i noticed that they had strong moral concepts. Morality is a biproduct of religion.

They also had what our generation doesn't...'Pakistani nationalism'. If you want to see how our military brass will look like in the future,see CCHA,MCJ,PAFPSS.

But in the case of your brother, he is very young. Still in Education. What happens when he does end up in Pakistan Military and goes up the ranks. Does morality still hold? Can the incorruptible minds become corrupt?

Only time will tell.
