Li Keqiang hails Pakistan as China's 'iron brother'

"Iron Brother" = tie xiongdi = 铁兄弟 = strong and unwavering brotherhood

china's activity is completely opposite to what you just said, its pushing India, japan, philipines even burma towards USA. It bets on pakistan as a dependable friendly country, which is why iron brother.

these countries are usa's proxies in greater or lesser extents in Asia regardless of China's activities.

Myanmar is broadening its economic and political scopes, more outreaching to the western world so as to break the long time embargo. China remains Myanmar's top trading and political partner. Even Aung San Suu Kyi has admitted bilateral relationship between our nations

@Genesis

What does 'Iron Brother' actually mean in Chinese language, because frankly to us it sounds a little odd.

In Simple Urdu "So sonar ki aik LOHAR ki " :) so its not that odd.

china's activity is completely opposite to what you just said, its pushing India, japan, philipines even burma towards USA. It bets on pakistan as a dependable friendly country, which is why iron brother.

China is Smart and Chinese are smart

he said About China's policy towards South Asia, Li said it is important to boost the development of South Asia saying it is a vibrant and promising region and peace, stability and development are the common pursuit of countries in this region.

He said, China shares borders with five South Asian countries.

China's destiny is closely connected with that of South Asian countries in both good and hard times, Li said.

"We hope that countries in the region will live in friendship and cooperation and build South Asia into a land of unity, stability, happiness and harmony," he said.

Oscar is right. And the above proves that China in a bid to make South Asia block a stronger one, even embraced India.

1. A ready testing ground for defence-related technologies from China and platitudes after platitudes to keep people happy.

More than platitudes.
China shares technology with Pakistan (defence, nuclear) which the West denies.
China does not give handouts (i.e. bribes) to corrupt Pakistani leaders, which is a GOOD thing.

2. Only those projects that has any potential of making China use Pakistan more and more.

Indian tantrums notwithstanding, China develops infrastructure in Pakistan which serves Pakistan's interests. If they help China as well, so much the better. We don't expect them to do charity.

India / Pakistan / Bangladesh were on country and can have some form of strong associations ( sovereign but VISA free) and tap middle east and CAR region and south east asia.

Not likely.

India has proved itself to be a double-talking backstabber. We see how it is playing the "Hindi Chini Asian century" song on the one hand, while cozying up to the West's anti-China hysteria on the other.

China-Pakistan interests converge far more -- and diverge far less -- than India-Pakistan interests. Pakistan has no problems with China expanding its sphere of influence because it does not come at Pakistan's expense. With India, on the other hand, Indian hegemony comes at Pakistan's expense.

China is a good friend to pakistan, no doubt. But I dont understand as to why Chinese premier visited India as his first visit instead of iron friend Pakistan ?

Ignore these Indian trolls. They are burning with jealousy at the time tested China-Pakistan friendship.

They should NOT because China is playing a blanaced game. Giving due importance to India. And its also not era of carrying egoistic enmity anymore.

China wants to strengthen South Asia and workout a new strong block wherein India is a prominent player

Because he knows who are the drama queens, and which relationship is mature enough not to need constant pampering.

So in other words, what you write also means: India is more important than Pakistan, Correct?

BEIJING: Chinese Premier Li Keqiang faces the challenge of meeting conflicting demands for his attention and Beijing's purse when he lands in Pakistan on Wednesday at the end of his India visit, his first foreign tour after assuming office.

Li needs to pay equal attention to the aspirations of newly elected prime minister Nawaz Sharif and the armed forces led by Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, sources said adding that the Chinese leader would have to tread a cautious path as there are grave differences between the two camps. On the other hand, Li is the guest of president Asif Ali Zardari whose Pakistan People's Party (PPP) got a bloody nose in the recent elections.

China will try to sell small helicopters and airplanes to Pakistan during Li's visit, sources said. Pakistan has always been the ready testing ground for defence-related technologies from China.

But Pakistan will seek its piece of the cake with a range of demands including funds for an international airport in Gwadar, tracks to connect the port to Pakistan's railway system and a national motorway in Sindh province, the sources said. Pakistani foreign ministry has itself given broad indications about its expectations from Beijing on further development of Gwadar, which has been seen as a 'Chinese gift' in the first place.

Pakistan has always been keen to make the most of China's geopolitical compulsions. It has obtained funds from Beijing to widen the Karakoram Highway connecting Xinjiang to Pak-Occupied Kashmir and building the Gwadar port.

Almost coinciding with Li's visit to Islamabad, Chinese geologists claimed to have found a huge gold reserve of 53 tonnes worth $3.2 billion in the troubled Xinjiang province, bordering Pakistan.

The gold find in addition to gas, coal and other minerals adds to Xinjiang's geo-political importance for China which has been wary of activities of Taliban-backed militants in the province. Sources said Islamabad has gained from Chinese fears of Pak-based elements stoking a bloody separatist movement in the strategic region.
Islamabad is also trying to gain from Beijing's attempt to develop the bordering province and link it to Central Asia. A move is also afoot to build a rail line connecting Xinjiang to Turkey and them to rest of Europe.

China is a good friend to pakistan, no doubt. But I dont understand as to why Chinese premier visited India as his first visit instead of iron friend Pakistan ?

No wonder that Indians despite having one of the largest army, with position of biggest buyer of weapons in the world and a strong economy, still are emotional fools.

Why You indians are happy with emotional and childish amusment like "Oh look look he visited India first"

:P now let me tell you well if i have a GOOD friend i know s/he wont mind if i give priority to an important business trip over visiting the friend

It is a positive statment ... we should get most out of this relationship ..we should not allow them to interfare in our internal matters ( which they already dont ).. we should get them bridge relationship with Russia ... we should not expect any military help in time of crisis as they had failed us before

Is the case that Pakistani leadership and the masses they influence, are more easily satisfied by words of praise, even if hollow? It would seem to be the case - The strategic engine in Pakistan is the so called Pakistan Army, and this institution is determined to play all sides and everyone against each other to further it's interests - and presently these interests (Afghanistan) will be used to blackmail the Chinese - The Chinese want effective action against the terrorists nurtured and trained in Pakistan against the people, State and nation of China, The so called Pakistan army is determined to ensure that these terrorists sufficiently antagonize the Chinese so as to serve as a threat and to so position the so called Pakistan army such that it can claim that without it as a bulwark against these terrorists, China would face an even greater threat and that thus China should find it in her interests to support the "vision" of the so called Pakistan army -- this blackmail has worked against US and NATO and to large measure has been successful against the Chinese as well.

However, with that said, it is not the case that the so called Pakistan army has only contention in mind when it comes to China, it is seeking and will more than likely get, satellite "communication" capability - The Chinese leadership are well aware that it is the so called Pakistan Army and her agencies that have ensure that the TTP and other Wahabi linked extremist organizations nurtured by the so called Pakistan Army decided the fate of the most recent elections resulting in a mandate for a party determined to talk "peace" with the TTP, and that while the Chinese may offer flowery praise, they may re access how much good money they are ll willing to allow to chase, the bad money lost in the schemes of Pakistani politicians and bureaucrats

Ignore these Indian trolls. They are burning with jealousy at the time tested China-Pakistan friendship.

Good advice, most Pakistanis here take Indians as jokers especially when the come into Sino-Pak threads using their recycle arguments why China not help Pak in 1965 or 1971, and other rubbish points which negate historical counterarguments. They are just a jealous hypocrite bunch, who would love nothing better to have equally strong ties with China as Pakistan has had for decades.
