Hillary Leverett who is an ex-State department official and is an Iran analyst along with her husband who is also an Iran specialist having worked for CIA talks over the issue here in this video. Their website which solely discusses Iran issues (raceforiran.com) has become a meeting place for rational people wanting to have a normal relation with Iran.
Their position is that Iran should be left to do what it wants since they are independent and that US should reach a "grand bargain" with Iran which necessitates US to take a distance from Arab dictatorships and Israel and accumulate an independent and powerful Iran into its foreign policy, much like China-US relations. They maintain that Iran is not a dictatorship and is actually a democracy and that the 2009 elections were free and fair without any evidence of fraud whatsoever. They also believe a long lasting peace between US and Iran is possible which both can benefit from if US changes its attitude towards Iran.
