What's new

Legacy aircraft are unsurvivable, impotent, and useless

No point denialing it, if you say J-20 is almost the same as F-35, that mean F-22 is also at the same level as F-35, or F-16 is the same as F-15....Which is impossible.

Still doubt the credibility of the J-20 equalling the F-22 claim, despite the potential intelligence successes Chinese hackers have had.

Of course this can't possibly be known except in actual combat or some sort of red flag exercise, and I don't think that's gonna happen

I don't expect to change other's opinions just as I don't expect mine to be changed, there will be those who believe the official line of CCP media on the issue, and those who doubt.

We will likely never know while either is in service or the CCP remains in power

This isn't the first time we've had aircraft hyped by their own propaganda machines, only to find out we'd overestimated the adversary's capabilities.

lol, doubt what you want, i remember in WW2 someone did doubt that we can produce liberty ship faster than they can sink'em. Well, i guess you need to see if we can cap that quota when we actually putting it into action.

I would take the word of Bill Sweetman then yours, he has the credibility. You are firing shots in the air.

Note: The Joint Strike Fighter Selected Acquisition Report, released at the end of March, included year-by-year production plans for the Pentagon, updated to take account of the cutbacks in low-rate initial production (LRIP) numbers announced at the beginning of the year. Those adjustments keep LRIP rates moderate through the 2014 buy year (2016 delivery, LRIP-9) which sees only 29 aircraft ordered by the Pentagon.

Yeah, i am not saying J-20 can be as good as F-22 but i am merely saying J-20 is a different class of fighter than F-35, one used to gain air superiority while 1 used to dominate the air once said authority is gained.

But in the end, no one ever know how good or bad were they, as you are talking about stuff happening in the future, who knows, maybe they will cancel the J-20 Project. We see enough project being cancel after 1 or 2 flying prototype have already been made.

Lol, take whoever you said, i am merely pointing out US have the capability to produce enough fighter if they want to be like that, it's a problem of CAN THEY vs WILL THEY. We cannot see into the future, you get $1000 does not mean you are gonna by spend all $1000 tomorrow, budget and planning can change, so no one is going to get what happening. Unless you have other way you can see into future

By the way, the blog article you supply discounted the fact that whole F-35 or parts are also made oversea. Turkey, for example, are making the framework for the F-35

LOL...........

I wasn't saying what's Bias what is fair source, i never said anytghing about the source but i am just saying there are still possibility the American and make 200-300 F-35 with technological partner help, so i am not saying or judging the source but rather the event is unpredictable itself. There are no need to believer or disbelieve anyone said anything.

You cannot tell me US do not have the power to produce enough F-35, but i am not going to guess if they are going to pay them all within the next 8 years or whatever they will do. As those thing happened IN THE FUTURE, nobody knows.

Considering the extremly high cost of modern jet fighters, I think only rich nations can affort such expensive toys.

As for Vietnam, the 150+ MIG-21s still build the core of Vietnamese Airforce. Equipped with modern missiles and radars they are still good as the protector of our sky. :D

.
For poorer nations, soon high quality sams will replace air forces altogether. For the cost of an aircraft u can field several deadly multi layered sam systems.

Imagine a multi layered system of pantsir, tor m2 and s-500 missiles systems.Deployed in numbers and used innovatively a royal pain in the *** even for most advanced air forces.Strategy is air denial not superiority.

Vietnam should replace these with a comprehensive modern SAM umbrella with pantsir, tor m2 and s-400s from russia.

The legacy aircrafts didnt mention about the F 22 or F 35 nor the type of AESA radars used in F 16 or F 18.

You do know that Bill Sweetman has a known bias against the F-35 right?

He is much derided in the knowledgeable community.

Using him as a source doesn't help your point is what im saying. He is too emotionally invested in his position these days

Aviation week actually had to suspend Sweetman from the F-35 reporting scene back in 2010 you know?

Our sky is already protected by multi layered SAMs, mostly Russian made surface-to-air missiles including S-300 Gargoyle, S-125 Neva/Pechora, S-75 Dvina and 2K12 Kub. The maintenance cost is much lower than those of fighter jets indeed.

For the more advanced version of SAM, there is report that Vietnamese army will buy up to 6 S-400 installations after 2015 when Russia exports this system.
