is it true only 2-5 lacs rupees gather in 5 days by govt account?

This was from two weeks ago. More aid from US will surely follow. In 2010, US gave $150 million for flood relief to Pakistan. Similar or more can be expected from them. As per one WSJ article, international donors have promised upto $500 million already. I would expect this figure to touch a $1 billion.

Yes, but emergency has just been announced. It may take another week for aid to come through

The bigger concern is not about the amount of aid, but how much of that aid (local and foreign) will be utilized properly and make it to the people who need it the most.

The PDM alliance (PMLN+PPP) have a horrible track record when it comes to efficient governance and minimizing corruption, especially in Sindh.

There's a reason why Imran Khan can raise billions in hours but you have to check your surroundings to make sure your furniture hasn't vanished after watching the PDM leadership on Television.

It is typically the bureaucratic institutions of a country that is responsible for distribution of aid etc. Elected representatives are more responsible for providing moral strength to affected population and to garner international support. I've seen a few videos of PM Shahbaz and FM Bilawal interacting with the affected people and earnestly campaign for support from international community. This is in line what one would expect from them.

As for the $15 million from Imran's telethon, it is admirable if it turns out to be true. He is a celebrity with a lot of international connections. I will not put it past his capacity. But US aid will be 10x that and the US will deliver through the government of Pakistan.

IMF deal was not selling like Like Kashmir, it was about the controversial SBP Bill, about FATF bills opposition was demanding a discussion on bills, government was saying to opposition to just sign the bills without reading, only cabinit members would do that like Malik Riaz agreement was signed by cabinet without reading.

So why hasn't this government undone the SBP bill then?

We are talking about Rs.750 billion and you are saying "IMF doesn't give two hoots. . . . ", seriously??
Extra tax on salaried class would fetch Rs.80 billion and, extra levy of Rs.50/liter on petroleum product could brought Rs. 140 billion extra.

“The Ministry of Finance has shared the draft MoU with all the four provinces and after the federal government’s guarantees to remove the objections raised by each province,

This scribe contacted KP’s Finance Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra and inquired about the province’s stance on signing MoU for generating revenue surplus, he confirmed that the Centre had agreed to resolve its difficulties on account of Net Hydel Profit (NHP) and increasing its shares in the aftermath of the FATA’s merger into the KP province.

The official sources said that the Ministry of Finance assured the KP government that their problems of Net Hydel Profit and increased share in the NFC would be addressed. After the guarantees, the provincial government decided to sign the MoU for fulfilling the IMF condition.

This video is more than enough for people harping about the leaked phone call.

You have to sign FATF demand bill without even discussing any clause or clauses. In the last reviews. French auditors showed 44000 transactions of ban organizations in our local banks and hundreds of transaction glitches. On top our elite class and political leadership transfer billions of dollars to foreign countries.

Pakistan loses $10bn a year to money laundering

WASHINGTON: The international community loses hundreds of billions of dollars every year due to trade-based money laundering, says a US report which identifies China, Russia, Mexico and India as the top four sources of illicit financial outflows.
The practice also costs Pakistan more than $10bn a year.

Miftah on fire, rubbishing Jhagra's claims.
Unfortunately, Shahzeb Khanzada is a judge and passes judgment. That is the problem with out media. Their job is to report and put the facts in front of viewers, not judgments.

The bureaucratic institutions in Pakistan take their lead from the ruling government. When the ruling coalition depends on leveraging said bureaucracy to carry out illegal activities and take their own 'share' from corruption, having an elected leadership that genuinely wants to reduce corruption makes a difference.

Even if corruption and mismanagement cannot be ruled out entirely, you can make a significant dent in it and governments can implement processes and systems to improve delivery of services,. The PTI clearly demonstrated this in how it handled the COVID epidemic, not just by ensuring that incoming aid and vaccines were routed efficiently and with minimal waste, but also in how it expanded social welfare nets and programs (long term and COVID recession specific) and used data and digital systems to improve verification of recipients and distribution to said recipients.

So this has little to do with 'celebrity' or the amounts collected, but as I pointed out in my previous post, more with how government resources, local and foreign aid will be handled and distributed - the PMLN and PPP track record on the latter has been quite dismal throughout their history of governing Pakistan.

They have this "Things to Do" list, soon after completing IMF program they will do this.

All the written commitments made by the PTI government with the IMF are binding on the new coalition government. Therefore, while renewing the EFF facility terms, the focus was on revenue-generation and structural reforms in all areas.

So having an independent central bank is not a good thing for us long term?

So having an independent central bank is not a good thing for us long term?

Please allow me to rephrase that:

Having an independent central bank is a good thing for Pakistan long term, but it is not good thing for the elites who can get loans approved and written off as they wish, and the government can borrow and fiddle with interest rates as they want.

Guess what will happen?

IMF forced Imran Khan to give autonomy for SBP. When Pakistan moves out of the IMF umbrella, one can expect any gov. in power at that time would roll back this autonomy. Most rulers think of autonomy to their central bank as a violation of sovereign right to manipulate their currency for fiscal needs. :agree:
