KSA & Bangladesh to strengthen ties
The Kingdom and Bangladesh agreed Saturday to cooperate with each other to promote activities in political, commercial, investment and cultural areas.
"We are keen on strengthening our relations with friendly countries such as Bangladesh since we share many things in common," Shoura Council Deputy Chairman Abdul Rahman Al-Barrak told the visiting Bangladesh parliamentary delegation on Saturday.
A high-level parliamentary delegation headed by senior legislator V.H. Haroon, which arrived in Riyadh on Friday on an invitation from the Shoura Council, had talks with Al-Barrak at the council's headquarters on Saturday.
Being members of the Organization of Islamic Conference,(OIC), Al-Barrak said both countries are committed to help each other in matters related to bilateral cooperation.
Haroon, who was leading the nine-member delegation said the Kingdom under the able leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah is deemed as a model for Bangladesh.
"We respect Saudi Arabia as our elder brother and respect its cultural and political values," Haroon said. He added that his government appreciates the yeoman services rendered by the Saudi government in serving the Muslim pilgrims who come for Haj and Umrah to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
The visiting leader hoped that his visit would further strengthen the relations maintained by the Saudi-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Committee.
Bangladesh Ambassador Mohamed Shahidul Islam and Co-Chairman of the Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Committee Rashid Mohamed Al-Kathiri were also present during the discussions.
Following the talks, the ambassador told Arab News the talks were fruitful and both parties identified new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Ambassador Islam hosted a reception in honor of the visiting delegation at his residence on Saturday. Members of the Shoura Council also attended the dinner reception.
The members of the delegation are slated to leave for Jeddah on Sunday where they plan to hold talks with the key officials of the OIC. They will also perform Umrah and visit the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah.
