Killer Siachen — 'where a Pakistani soldier dies every four days from the cold'

True. Siachen is of Significant Importance because of it's strategic Location- if demilitarized, who knows another "Kargil" like Incursion may happen.

Could you please elaborate further, your forces occupied Siachen Glacier in 1984, Kargil incident happened in 1999, so occuyping Siachen wont prevent another Kargil type incident, The whole aim to occupy Siachen glacier was to sneak into Gilgit and Baltistan occupy as much territory as possible and keep a close eye on KKH, which has not happened and hence your forces could not go any further and are locked in frozen heights. Bottom line is the occupation of Siachen glacier is very little strategic value.

Siachen has no special strategic importance. All the BS written about its strategic importance is just to justify Indian aggression. You are getting nothing after occupying Siachen. You are not threatening Pakistan in any manner after occupying Siachen. Close by major towns like Skardu, Khaplu and even military base like Dansem that is situated right next to Saltoro ridge are completely secured after Pakistan army posts and presence in that area. KKH is far away from Siachen and cannot be threatened by Indian troops on Siachen. Even K2 the second highest peak in the world is secure. You cannot move an inch forward. You are locked where you are.
On rarest of rare ocassions you come up with good arguments.
Siachen is strategically important to us and India under no circumstance should demilitarise Kargil. Let me tell you that a house owner is not called an aggressor.

I repeat again. Anything you occupy is strategic. So Siachen is nothing specially strategic and all articles about its supposed strategic importance are just justifications for Indian adventure in this region.

Can you please share some incidents which were tried by IA to do exactly what you are saying there?? We haven't heard something like that on this side....

Err - Please re-read my post and see the context in which it was quoted. :tsk:

Please check the second Page of this thread to know the very little strategic value of Siachen. Poka!

So as per you why is India deploying forces there??

And....
Siachen belongs to us.
Disputes over border is not uncommon around the world. There are about 150 territorial issues around the world and everyone has a reason to continue their fight.
We are not obliged to give any explanation to anyone as to why we have our army posts in Kargil.
Anyways the thread is about your army and their loss. So let me tell you, it's your decision to demilitarise or not, just that you should not expect the same from us.

To claim a victory over Pakistan no matter how lame it is. You found a window for you in Siachen and you took advantage of it. And not to forget you got a little portion of your "atoot ang" back which was not in your control before.

Same applies to Pakistan. Pakistan doesn't need to give anyone any justifications. Particularly to an aggressor like India. And thread was started because few Indian soldiers perished in Siachen a few days ago. WE have made our decision. We are defending ourselves in Siachen. Let's see how long aggressor continues with this insanity. It is for the aggressor occupying Siachen to decide about this dispute.

Actually, this argument doesnt seem logical to. Considering that 1984 Siachen victory, irrespective of how strategic or spectacular, was almost an anti climax after the previous Indo Pak Engagement of 1971.

Well Indians won't mind another victory. With all the troubles in Indian punjab in those days. Who won't mind a vicotry. Even if it is too lame.

THere is nothing to decide. A few soldiers' deaths (on either side), though regrettable, are inconsequential in the bigger scheme of things. And today its much easier to maintain the presence in Siachen than it was 10 years back. Going forward, its only going to get easier.

Now now... its not really my fault if you hold onto such wrong notions.

Doesn't compute.
