Dhaka, Oct 13 (UNB) – BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia leaves here on Sunday for Beijing on a five-day visit to China at the invitation of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC).

Party sources said Khaleda will fly for China on a regular flight of Thai Airways from Shahjalal International Airport at about 1:35pm.

She will stay overnight at Bangkok on Sunday and will reach Beijing on Monday.

Party sources said Khaleda, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, will have meetings with key leaders of the Chinese Communist Party and top officials of the Chinese government, aiming to strengthen her party’s relations with the Chinese government and the CPC.

She will discuss matters of mutual interests, the next general election of Bangladesh and explore new areas of cooperation between the two friendly countries, and the BNP and the CPC.

BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, and Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, vice-chairmen Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and Selima Rahman, chairperson’s adviser Sabihuddin Ahmed, press secretary Maruf Kalam Khan Sohel, private secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed and special assistant Shimul Biswas will accompany Khaleda.

Khaleda last visited China in December 2010.

She is scheduled to leave Beijing on October 19 and return home on October 20 after a short stopover in Bangkok.

DHAKA: Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Monday accused BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia of taking China tour to destroy its relations with Bangladesh.

“Khaleda Zia has been in China to complaint to it against the government with stories cooked up by the corrupt to destroy Bangladesh’s relations with the predominantly Buddhist countries,” he said.

Hanif said China and Japan are Bangladesh’s main development partners. “In order to block the country’s development, she is now visiting China.”

The ruling party spokesman was addressing an extended meeting of Awami League Dhaka City Unit at its office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia left here on Sunday for Beijing on a weeklong visit to China at the invitation of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC).

Hanif said attacks were launched on different minorities in the past but Khaleda was least bothered about that. “Why this time she looks over affectionate about the Buddhist community.”

The Awami League leader said attacks on the Buddhist community were carried out for two reasons -- to give an impression that the people of various faiths are not safe under Awami League regime and destroy relations with the Buddhist community.

He urged the party leaders and activists to remain vigil so that no one could carry out such attacks during Durga Puja.

Awami League Dhaka City Unit general Secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke at the meeting held with acting president MA Aziz in the chair.

strengthen relation with China is more beneficial to Bd than China. I for one can not understand why Bangladesh foreign policy changes with the change of government. BNP represent the real sentiment of the people and it has nationalist character to look after the overall interest of the nation. BNP always try to improve Bd-China relation based on mutual interest. I believe if BNP regain power by next election, Bd-China friendship will reach new height.

Dhaka, Oct 15 (UNB) – BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia reached Beijing on Monday on a weeklong visit to China at the invitation of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC).

On her arrival at the Beijing International Airport, Begum Zia was warmly received by Madame Huihua Rao, Deputy Director General of the International Department, CPC, according to a message here on Monday night.

From the airport, Khaleda Zia and members of her entourage drove to Diaoyutai State Guest House in an official motorcade, where the delegation will be staying during the visit.

Earlier on Sunday, a regular flight of Thai Airways carrying the BNP chief and members of her entourage took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:35pm.

Khaleda, also the leader of the opposition in Parliament, arrived in Bangkok at 5:18pm (local time) on the day and stayed overnight there. She again flew for Beijing from Bangkok Monday morning.

During her stay in China, the BNP chief will have meetings with key leaders of the Chinese Communist Party and top officials of the Chinese government, aiming to strengthen her party’s relations with the Chinese government and the CPC.

Meanwhile, International Department of CPC Minister Wang Jiaru hosted an official banquet in honour of the Bangladeshi leader at the CPC headquarters on Monday evening.

Prior to the banquet, Khaleda Zia and minister Wang discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.

The minister underlined the importance of relations between Bangladesh and China that got bolstered by late President Ziaur Rahman.

On behalf of his party, Wang Jiaru thanked Khaleda Zia for her immense contributions to further consolidating the ties and recalled her role in the economic development of Bangladesh as a prime minister.

The BNP chairperson expressed her happiness to be in China again and conveyed deep appreciation on behalf the delegation members to the CPC leadership for arranging this visit in spite of their serious preoccupation with the upcoming 18th Congress of the Party.

She spoke of the strong bonds of friendship between Bangladesh and China and also between the people of the two countries.

Khaleda recalled China’s invaluable contributions to the economic and infrastructure development in Bangladesh over the years and expressed confidence that these would be continued and enhanced in the days to come.
