PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed a joint resolution against the Kasur child sexual abuse scandal in Punjab and termed the incident more harrowing than the Army Public School massacre.

Lawmakers demanded the federal government to serve exemplary punishment to perpetrators during the assembly proceedings on Monday. The resolution was tabled by Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Nighat Orakzai and received widespread support from opposition and treasury members.

Orakzai then proceeded with criticising Peshawar Electric Supply Company for conducting prolonged power outages across the province. Most members of the house, including Speaker Asad Qaiser, agreed with her and spoke about the “injustices committed by the federal government and the Water and Power Development Authority.”

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, who usually delivers fiery speeches on the subject, was relatively calm possibly due to the violent protests in various parts of the province where mobs torched Pesco offices, inflicting hefty losses on the company. “Power theft in certain areas is causing the whole province to suffer,” Khattak said. He added K-P’s daily share in the national grid is 13.7% but it has been receiving only 10% since 2008.

Some lawmakers, including Qaumi Watan Party’s Bakht Baidar Khan and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s Munawar Khan suggested the house to protest at the Tarbela Dam against the injustice so that the people know their leaders stand with them.

Minister for Public Health Engineering Shah Farman was also critical of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and said such treatment is bound to ignite hatred among the people.

“PML-N is pushing Pakistan on the brink of breaking off into pieces.” Minister for Local Government Inayatullah Khan said cabi net members and local MPAs are at the receiving end of public outrage. Awami National Party leader Sardar Hussain Babak urged all parties to unite for the cause of the province.

Kasur like scandal happens on daily basis in banu and truck stands around kpk

Sorrow is not the thing to compare.
But this current incident reveals disgusting smell of rotting society.

Look at the behavior of police and their political masters.

This is from international media.

But no one tried to paint it as political.

Also under KPK govt, a child was abused in Bannu and he still came on camera to appeal govt to arrest culprits. Police arrested them but today they roam freely. So much for "free police". Again no one tried to paint it as political as PTI is doing.

Whether a child is abused in Bannu or Karachi, parties have to unite and fight it together. It is a common enemy and entire state is victim to it, not one party, not one region. Playing politics is like construction of dams, end result is, dams don't get built. So if we play politics over it than take action, sadly nothing will come out.

Is that percentage wise? Because Punjab ha afar bigger population.

Just because so 10 crimes happen in city of Karachi with 50m (example) doesn't mean it's worse than Peshawar with 5 crimes and 30m population (example).

Regardless, it isn't wise to say all of Punjab is plagued with it considering Punjab has many MPAs as well from PTI.

assembly a chor speaker kehta Kasur is a provincial matter cannot be discussed in Nat Assembly. Lakh de Lanat tere moun tay..

I am not sure. I saw Geo reporting it. the thing is we the people you and me, we all should join hands to get the culprits punished.. you are right to say that it should be politicized, all who are pedophile are just plain sick minds, so are those who cover up. they dont belong to any party or group. just criminals.

I said it shouldn't be politicized, I think you made typo.

If you go after party, they'll just jump to another party. But if you go after ideology, well they will jump to a humane ideology or end up in jail/grave.

And this isn't just in Pakistan, it's in India and Afghanistan too. So this isn't criminal, but rather become part of of cultural. But this is against Islamic laws and international laws. So again you can't fight culture with politics, rather punishment.

And this issue should be discussed in National Assembly because if APS can, why not this? Both are national tragedies. And APS happened in one city, this happen all over Pakistan.

Maybe not discuss Kasur selectively in National Assembly but child abuse collectively in Pakistan is possible. The state needs to pass law for this and I think it comes from federation.

There is no point in comparing the two tragedies. They are both shameful and deplorable in their own making.

Politician really are a##holes. A tragic incident is politicized for their own benefit.
