Kashmir's Young Rebels

See, when we were divided, the assets were divided 2/3rd & 1/3rd. Going by this alone , India would have three times the number of idiots Pakistan has. This alone should help dispel silly, childish & immature responses.

J&K is fairly well in the fold, elections show this. We have some wily foxes in the NC, PDP and other hardline type parties too who do not think kindly towards India. At times they form Govts too. Which is fair.If Hurriyat wishes to make a change they too need to contest. Meeting Pak High Commissioners or FMs is going to achieve nothing - after all they have been doing this for years to no avail.

The people need jobs , education, quality of life & so much more. Contrary to what most may feel J&K is not dying to break off nor shall it ever be allowed to. Having spent a considerable length of time there I can say this with conviction.

This thing about reserving seats in all engineering colleges & I think med ones too is a great Idea. I see boys from J&K studying a a fraction of the cost in places like Bangalore & Pune.

In 47 -48 there were two parties to the issue. With Pak having illegally ceded parts of a disputed territory to a 3rd part - China all bets are off

Thats how it shall be.

In any case the UN resolution is non enforceable so ..Good luck
The part which pak ceded to China. Is it a no man's land or people are living there.

Lol, That has got to be one of the best responses recorded on PDF, it deserves to be written in gilded gold letters.

It was slowly being incorporated in the mainstream but it is hardly in the fold, I should know as I spent the earlier part of my service at the border, before some senior officer decided that this young man should be removed to be taught how to deal with this phenomenon called "Terrorism" that the whole world is talking about after 9/11, not that we would ever have to face it, at least that's what we thought at the time.
I have dealt with more border jumpers than I could count on my entire post's fingers, people who were ready to leave their homes and families behind to start a new life for some reason I could not comprehend. It was routine to ask them why they had come to Pakistan and most of them seemed to echo the same response, they felt choked in J&K, Army, Police, Pickets, Encounters, Raids, Searches, Death. They wanted to escape all that and taste "Azadi", it is ironic that Pakistan has also since relapsed into a security state though AJK still remains a haven of peace.

The people need jobs , education, quality of life & so much more. Contrary to what most may feel J&K is not dying to break off nor shall it ever be allowed to. Having spent a considerable length of time there I can say this with conviction.

Obviously, the youth will look to militancy only when they feel that they have been disappointed beyond a certain point from where they can see no chance of return. If India is able to co-opt Kashmir successfully and the demand for separation ceases to exist, then Pakistan will not have a case to fight.

If I have learnt something from my experience in COIN, education and a good job does not equal a pacified population. I have arrested engineers, doctors, masters and doctorate degree holders who were hard core terrorists and were more dangerous than your run of the mill foot soldier because these guys could think, visualize, adapt and strike.
Its the ideology that has to be dealt with more than the access to education and opportunity. And how do you deal with the ideology? Making the people feel that they are a prison colony being kept in line with force is certainly not going to help. It would be a happy day for me when India agrees to hold the plebiscite in Kashmir, I don't care if India gets Kashmir or it becomes independent because on that day, we will be able to throw off the burdens of partition and move into the future.

.
Unless Kashmiries, especially from the valley, stop seeing Kashmir issue as Hindu - Muslim thing, they will waste their lives in pursuit of imagined freedom. They have to accept that there is never going to be a plebiscite, and India is their country and their future lies with India.

Forget Muslim - Hindu issue, no self respecting person would want to be affiliated with a "yellow elixir" drinking nation, that elects terrorists as their PM.

This is not unique to Kashmirs especially from valley, there are many people across the world that feel imprisoned in imagined prisons. Tibetans, Sri Lankan Tamilians, Hong Kongers, and people of Xinjgang...that is how world is. Pakistanis should get it...plebiscite is never going to happen in Kashmir...Neither will be Kashmiris the last ones to demand plebiscite.

There are 180 million Muslims in India calling it their motherland...I don't see why 3 million Kashmires from valley should have problem calling India their motherland.

Like I said earlier "Self Respect"

Have you read the entire article? 177 total, out of which some were school going boys, they turned freedom fighters. Every other parent wanted his child to be doctor. Then what went wrong? Why India is reluctant to acknowledge that it is doing something wrong big time?

And before us lot of emperors and kings have tried to keep people enslaved to their rule, but today billions are living free lives, so don't know how you can be so sure about future.

How do you define...self respect? Indian are proud be called Indians. Do you consider this as "self respect".

When I see a boy turning into a 'freedom fighter', I see a problem...it means he was brain washed. If I see a 30 year old rebelling, then I understand.

Before that happens, I think a lot needs to be done to try and bring Kashmir into the fold. As long as it is treated as a territory being held by force, it will be very difficult to normalize the situation there. Even now an Indian member was boasting about having pictures of Burhan's brother being skinned alive which is not only disgusting on his part but even more so on the part of the Indian security forces, if he was actually tortured like this, then it speaks of very poor discipline.

@Icarus my friend; remember that human beings are facing off to human beings. Do you think that it is any different around you ???

The only way changes happen in India is through the ballot.

Those expecting a change outside the ballot will have to wait forever as nothing has changed nor ever will.

Those inciting and those incited need to understand this.

Nations have lost half their entities yet chose not to see the futility of the path they pursue.
Ballot in presence of Indian army is not acceptable.
We want unbiased referendum.

We ?

Who is we ? .. and why should India worry about ' We' ?

Referendum as I stated earlier is dead as a dodo. China too is also holding parts of J&K so Good luck.

The sooner Indians accept this fact, the better. Young Sunnis all over the country are fed up with being equal to idol worshiping Hindus and Sikhs.

Non Muslim patience is running out faster than the youth of Kashmir or other places are taking to guns. When the hour of reckoning comes, Kashmir has more chance of reverting to a non Muslim place of peace and brotherhood than another Islamic state.

Last time the Indian Army did counter insurgency operations. This time if they repeat their mistake, we will not make ours.
Nope kashmir has no place for hindus shoo go away

Not at all, I can associate with the human cost of a conflict all too well even for the Indians however I still cannot condone the use of torture, particularly when it is not even intended to extract information (which is a banal and frankly useless exercise in itself) but for the sadistic pleasure of one party.

Lets put the UN resolution's aside for a minute. Since you have deployed 700k+ boots on the ground and that hasn't helped you, the other option would be a plebiscite. But sanity and indians don't go in a sentence together! After all which country's PM admitted to drinking the yellow elixir, OR which country's PM is a known terrorist?

Like I said earlier:

1) Another 700K boots on the ground are NOT going to make any difference.

2) Do carry on with your rhetoric!

We feel the same about Pakistanis ( Bold above).

How else can you attribute banging the head on a wall despite losing half the nation & having the rest in tatters.

As regards Modi, we elected him for we saw his performance in Gujarat for a decade. When was the last time Pak had a PM who had been a performing CM of a state ?

Your leaders elope from the nation once they lose power & yet you lovingly remember them & even elect them - only to lament later at leisure on forums like these.

Thank You, we are happy the way we are.

The part which pak ceded to China. Is it a no man's land or people are living there.

Siachen too has no local population , yet we fight over it.
