Kashmir civilian deaths: Locals say ‘indiscriminate’ firing by forces led to high casualties

What does not carrying weapons mean?

They have killed police and military personnel using stones and other means.

Police and army cannot be mere spectators or just drop their arms and get killed. They have right to defend themselves and responsibility to protect other peace loving civilians.
They are doing peaceful protesters. Why use of force, beyond my understanding. 7 millions armed soldiers deploy to kill the democratic voices.

I respect the services of your family but Police and army have a right to defend themselves and responsibility to protect other peace loving civilians.

The killing comes just days after an Indian Army soldier succumbed to injuries of stone pelting while on patrol duty.
A J&K Police sub-inspector was killed by militants in Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Sunday. Identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, the police officer was abducted before being shot dead by militants at Wahibug.

Mir’s colleagues told PTI that he was desperate to meet his parents despite knowing that militants had laid a trap for him in his village. Mir had even shaved off his beard to change his appearance, a police officer said.

Posted in the CID department, Mir had been warned against venturing into his village as there was a possibility of an attack by militant groups, who have been targeting policemen in the state recently. “I had told him that he should not go as militants could attack. But he was desperate to see his parents who reside at Sontabugh in the interiors of Pulwama district,” recalled one of his supervising officers.

Mir is survived by his father and mother. Son of a retired police officer, Mir had served in Ganderbal district of South Kashmir for five years before being transferred to Kulgam district last year. A dedicated police officer, Mir was shifted to CID department in March this year.

SRINAGAR: A 22-year-old tourist from Tamil Nadu was killed and two members of his family, including his mother, were injured when their cab was attacked by a group of stone-pelters at Narbal on the Srinagar-Gulmarg highway on Monday. Nearly half a dozen vehicles were attacked by the stone-pelters.

The stone-pelters were protesting against the killing of five Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in an encounter in Shopian on Sunday. The victim, identified as R Thirumani from Chennai, succumbed to head injuries in Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura on the outskirts of Srinagar. The family had arrived here on Sunday and was on its way to Gulmarg when it was attacked.

Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti rushed to hospital to console the tourists. “Stone-pelters threw stones on our cab and Thirumani was hit in the head that resulted in his death,” a sobbing Rajwali, father of the deceased, told Mehbooba.

The joint resistance leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for a three-day shutdown and protests across Kashmir valley soon after the killing of five Hizbul terrorists and five stone-pelters at Badigam in Shopian on Sunday.

"We have registered a case under FIR Number 57/2018 in Magam police station and investigation into the attack has been initiated. Culprits will be nabbed soon," a senior police officer said.

The attack on the tourists comes just five days after tourists were attacked by stone-pelters in south Kashmir. One of the tourists, Ritu Devi from Mumbai, who was severely injured, also sustained head injuries in the attack. In another attack at the same spot in Narbal, a 19-year-old Kashmiri girl identified as Sabreena from Handwara was injured when the group of rowdies pelted stones on the passing vehicles.

TOI has been reporting attacks on tourists by stone-pelters. The J&K tourism department, however, has denied these attacks.

On the killing of the tourist, J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said, “My head hangs in shame. It is very sad and heartbreaking.”

Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, “We’ve killed a tourist by throwing stones at the vehicle he was travelling in. Let’s try and wrap our heads around the fact that we stoned a tourist, a guest, to death while we glorify these stone-pelters & their methods,” Omar said, “I pray she (victim’s mother) & others injured make a quick recovery.”

Use of army means alot. It shows Indian police surrendered and central to involve army. When army involve it worst sign and huge change in ground reality.

Average death of 1 security VS 5 local deaths and many permanent disable or injured. Why you guys expect , that your govt shoot bullets and they shoot flowers in return. Use of power is biggest intimidation ...

.
Nobody will dare to protest (violently) after this sad incident I guess. :(

The intention to deal with stone pelters seems loud and clear now. :hitwall:
Death to terrorist Indian Army . How many innocent Kashmiri will you kill ?
Kashmir banay ga Pakistan.

.
And what will you do when civilians, police and army men themselves are being killed by these stone pelters?
You send many many companies of SWAT, federal police force, police force from other provinces to control these miscreants. It's their duty to arrest and detain those who are rioting or disturbing civil life. If the police force is being surrounded then they can defend themselves. But you don't deploy army against civilians. Doing that means you want to simply kill civilians and not even detain them.

.
And what will you do when civilians, police and army men themselves are being killed by these stone pelters?

Maybe understand and accept why these people are so enraged at your occupation

And give them the democratic right yo choosh thrir future

They have all been tried. Stone pelters have been killing civilians, police and army personnel for almost a decade now with impunity because of the kid glove treatment by the government of India. It is time the government take some serious actions to end this tamasha once for all.

They are not enraged. They get paid for indulging in stone pelting. These are professionally trained stone pelters. They act as the cover for the armed militants to carry out the killings.

That means you don't have enough police force in the region or you have not properly trained them or you have not equipped them. How can untrained and poorly equipped civilians ever subdue police forces?

Also, if civilians are doing unrest for a decade that means something else is broken at a very fundamental level. Civilians usually want to live their lives, work, go home to their families. Rioting for 10 years or more is a symptom for something else extremely broken somewhere.

As I said earlier, if people are unhappy they are welcome to leave India.

India is not forcing them to live in India like China is doing to Uyghurs in East Turkestan.

That means you don't have enough police force in the region or you have not properly trained them or you have not equipped them. How can untrained and poorly equipped civilians ever subdue police forces?

Stone pelters not some random emotional civilians. These are professionally trained to act as a cover and protect the armed militants.
