Kashmir a bilateral issue for India, Pakistan: UK's Labour Party leader

Thank you for your perspective.

I personally hope there can be an amicable political solution. Its a shame that at a time Pakistan has gotten a government which is centre left and a break from the old guard, India has lurched so far to the right. An opportunity missed.

Any constitutional issues in India are a matter for the Indian Parliament and Kashmir is a bilateral issue for India and Pakistan to resolve peacefully.

The cunning Brit whose forefathers created conflicts across half the planet is correct. Pakistan is going to resolve Kashmir bilaterally with Hindustan on the battlefield. Let's see how bilateral things remain when things heat up on the battlefield.

Happy to oblige.

I wonder where all those Pakistanis who touted the Labour Party as the saviour of everything including Kashmir are. I told them from day one that these lot are not interested, but no the old narrative that the conservatives are evil and labour is angelic reigned.
Now take a long look. Expect similar statements on the Middle East soon I.e. Israel.

If you look at the early history of the labour party, the founder was a pacifist, though his own party was hijacked by right wing dullards forcing him to compromise; this has been the case with much of the history of the party a 'tug of war', most MP's in the party today who are dubbed as 'moderates' are just really neo-liberal scum. We had a slight chance of hope when the real socialists with the likes of Corbyn et al, to return the party to its roots, but as you saw the momment he stood at the podium he was vicously attacked by in his own party the so called 'moderates' and the mass media, as he was a threat to the status quo. If corbyn was elected without doubt he would have pushed for the plight of Kashmiri's that man has a proven track record being on humanities side.

Does British stance even matter on the global stage? It's a middling power at best. USA, Russia and China are the heavyweights.
That's why I'm perplexed as well.

Britain or any of the P5, arguably other than the US, cannot affect India's decision-making process or lead to India giving concessions to Pakistan on Kashmir. Why then do Pakistanis expend such a high level of political capital on this. Surely getting the UK to sign favourable trade deals with Pakistan would be a better way to spend precious political capital of British-Pakistanis and lead to tangible gains for their country.

I suspect this has more to do with tunnel vision and historical fixations from back in the day, when India was more vulnerable to international pressure, than any concrete and fresh cost-benefit analysis done today.

I personally hope there can be an amicable political solution. Its a shame that at a time Pakistan has gotten a government which is centre left and a break from the old guard, India has lurched so far to the right. An opportunity missed.
What then would you prefer the Pakistani Govt to be? Center right or right?
And how would that be more useful for Pakistan?

Instead of cajoling yourself share your professional thoughts on the story.

Is the cunning Brit right? Is Kashmir a bilateral issue and should both countries sort it out in their own unique style?

Brits are cunning..period...As an Indian origin person, I am glad but how does it matters on the ground??
