I speak Kannada quite okay. I can manage quite well with my family and friends. But that is not the same as Kannada literature. Like I did not know the word for a farmer in Kannada or the difference between field and a plantation. Many such things which generally do not come up in daily conversations. Unfortunately my Marathi is equally weak.

My dad is Kannadiga, mom was a Tamil who became a Kannadiga. We speak Kannada and Hindi at home. ....such slip-ups are common when learning new languages. Have you also learnt Tamil, btw? For a Kannadiga, I feel is the easiest Dravidian language to learn(not that I've learnt it, but just I can understand more of it than Telugu or Malayalam or Tulu).

It is even worse than my Kannada. I can understand Tamil and Malayalam to the same degree and speak a few sentences. Both my parents speak 7-8 languages fluently. It will be difficult for a malyali to know that they are not from Kerala, but unfortunately neither me nor my siblings are so gifted.

If I had learnt the Kannada alphabets and read a few books, I would have been okay, but since I never did, my Kannada is stunted.

Regarding Pratap simha's articles, I'm not sure you're missing anything, since I feel he lifts opinions from other columns and disguises them as his own(just my observation). But S.L.Bhyrappa, YES, You're missing something there. My parents are avid readers of his works and I've read 5-6 of his books too. There's no one like him in Kannada literature. A pity that the supposed Right-Wing content in his works has denied him a highly deserving Jnanpith Prashasti.

I have read a few translations of Pratap Simha's columns on Sandeepweb. It takes a lot of courage to write what Pratap does, he has been threatened and beaten up for it. Both Sandeep and Pratap were writing pro-right wing and common sense stuff for a long time. I learnt about S. L Bhyrappa through their columns.

You know I held the same views and opinions on subjects like you do not so long ago. Thought people like Ananthamurthy and Girish Karnad are intellectuals. It was not until I started reading Sandeep and Swapan Dasgupta that I woke up to the lies spread about by the establishment.

ಗುಜರಾತ್ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ನರೇಂದ್ರ ಮೋದಿಯವರನ್ನು 2014ರ ಲೋಕಸಭೆ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯ ಪ್ರಚಾರಾಂದೋಲನ ಸಮಿತಿಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ನೇಮಕ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಗೋವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಾರ್ಯಕಾರಣಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಜೂನ್ 9ರಂದು. ಇಂಥದ್ದೊಂದು ಮಹತ್ವದ ತೀರ್ಮಾನದ ನಂತರ ಸುದ್ದಿಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ರಾಯಿಟರ್ಸ್‌ನ ವರದಿಗಾರರಾದ ರಾಸ್ ಗಾಲ್ವಿನ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಶೃತಿ ಗೊಟ್ಟಿಪಟಿ ನರೇಂದ್ರ ಮೋದಿಯವರ ಸಂದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಲಾವಕಾಶ ಕೇಳಿದರು. ಕಳೆದ ಜುಲೈ 12ರಂದು ಸಂದರ್ಶನವನ್ನೂ ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ಸಹಜವಾಗಿಯೇ 2002ರ ಗುಜರಾತ್ ಹಿಂಸಾಚಾರವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸಿದರು.




-ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ: 2002ರಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಘಟನೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನೀವು ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದೀರಾ?


ಮೋದಿ: ನೋಡಿ, ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ವೋಚ್ಚ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯವನ್ನು ಇಂದು ವಿಶ್ವದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಯೋಗ್ಯ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಂಥ ಸುಪ್ರೀಂಕೋರ್ಟ್ ಒಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ ತನಿಖಾ ತಂಡವನ್ನು (SIT) ನೇಮಕ ಮಾಡಿತ್ತು. ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾನ್ವಿತ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿದ್ದರು. ಅದರ ವರದಿ ಬಂದಿದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ನನಗೆ ಕ್ಲೀನ್ ಚಿಟ್ (ನಿರ್ದೋಷಿ) ಕೊಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವಿಚಾರ: ನಾವೊಂದು ಕಾರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತೆರಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆಂದರೆ, ನಾವೇ ಕಾರನ್ನು ಚಲಾಯಿಸುತ್ತಿರಬಹುದು ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬರು ಕಾರು ಚಲಾಯಿಸುತ್ತಿರಬಹುದು ಹಾಗೂ ನಾವು ಹಿಂದೆ ಕುಳಿತಿರಬಹುದು. ಒಂದು ನಾಯಿಮರಿ ಕಾರಿನ ಚಕ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದರೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ನೋವಾಗುತ್ತದೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೋ ನೀವೇ ಹೇಳಿ? ಖಂಡಿತ ನೋವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ನಾನು ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಅಲ್ಲವೋ ಹೌದೋ, ನಾನೊಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯ. ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲೇ ಏನೇ ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದು ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದರೂ ಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕವಾಗಿಯೇ ದುಃಖವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.


ಈ ಉತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನು ತಪ್ಪಿದೆ ಹೇಳಿ? ಮೋದಿ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಯಿಮರಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ವಿವರಿಸಿ? ಆದರೂ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬೊಬ್ಬೆ ಹಾಕಿದವು, ಚೀರಾಡಿದವು, ಮೋದಿಯವರನ್ನು ಅಹಂಕಾರಿ, ತಪ್ಪಿತಸ್ಥರು ಎಂದು ತೀರ್ಪುಕೊಟ್ಟವು. ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋದಿಯವರನ್ನು ಗುಜರಾತ್ ಗಲಭೆ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯದೆದುರು ತಂದು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಲು ಜಾಗತಿಕ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋರಾಟಿಕ್ಕಿಳಿದಿದ್ದ ಗುಜರಾತಿ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಝಫರ್ ಸರೇಶ್‌ವಾಲಾ 'ನಾಯಿಮರಿ' ಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿವರಣೆ ನೀಡುವಂತೆ ಖುದ್ದಾಗಿ ಮೋದಿಯವರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ "ಒಂದು ಇರುವೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಂದರೂ ನೋವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ಮೂಲಕ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗಾದ ನೋವನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದೆ, ಕಾರಿನ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾಯಿಮರಿ ಎಂದೆ" ಎಂದರು. ಜಫರ್ ಸರೇಶ್‌ವಾಲಾಗೆ ಕೂಡ ಅವರ ಮನವರಿಕೆಯಾಯಿತು. ತಮ್ಮ ಟಿಆರ್‌ಪಿ ದಾಹವನ್ನು ತಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ನಂತರ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳೂ ತಣ್ಣಗಾದವು.


ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ 'ವಿಜೇತ' (ಸ್ವ)ಸಾಹಿತಿ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರ ದಾಹ, ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಯಾವುದು? ಏಕಾಗಿ ಮೋದಿ ಉತ್ತರವನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಮೂಗಿನ ನೇರಕ್ಕೆ ತಿರುಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಒಂದೊಂದೇ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ? "ಅಷ್ಟು ಜನ ಕೋಮು ಗಲಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತರಲ್ಲ, ಅವರು ಓಡ್ತಾ ಇರೋ ಕಾರಿನ ಚಕ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಕುನ್ನಿಗಳು ಸಿಕ್ಕಂಗೆ ಅಂತಂದನಲ್ಲಾ..." ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರಲ್ಲಾ ಈ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಆತ್ಮಸಾಕ್ಷಿ ಅನ್ನೋದೇ ಇಲ್ಲವೇ? ಸಮಾಜ ಸಾಕ್ಷೀಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಯನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿಹಿಡಿಯಬೇಕಾದ ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳ ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೇ ಆತ್ಮಸಾಕ್ಷಿ ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವರಿಂದ ಪಾಠ ಹೇಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸಮಾಜದ ಗತಿಯೇನು? ಮೋದಿ ಉತ್ತರದ ಯಾವ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಗಲಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತವರನ್ನು ನಾಯಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ? ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾದ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರಿಗೆ ರಾಯಿಟರ್ಸ್ ಸಂದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸರಳ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷನ್ನೂ ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳದಷ್ಟು ಬುದ್ಧಿ ಮಂಕಾಗಿದೆಯೇ? ಯುಪಿಎ-1 ಸರ್ಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಗೃಹಖಾತೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಶ್ರೀಪ್ರಕಾಶ್ ಜೈಸ್ವಾಲ್ 2005ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಸತ್‌ಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ ವಿವರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ "ಗುಜರಾತ್ ಗಲಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 252 ಹಿಂದುಗಳೂ ಸತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ" ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಗಲಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತವರನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ನಾಯಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದ್ದರೆ, ಆ 252 ಹಿಂದುಗಳನ್ನೂ ನಾಯಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಹಿಂದುಗಳೂ ಬೊಬ್ಬೆಹಾಕಬೇಕಿತ್ತಲ್ಲವೆ? ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳಾದ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಮನ್ನಣೆ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಜ್ಞಾನಪೀಠ ಪಡೆದ ನೀವೇ ಏಕೆ ಸುಳ್ಳು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಿ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರೇ?


"ರಾಹುಲ್ ಗಾಂಧಿ 10 ಸಾವಿರ ಪದಗಳ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಆತನನ್ನು ಹೊಗಳಲು ಒಂದೆರಡು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತವೆ, ಅದೇ ಮೋದಿ 10 ಸಾವಿರ ಪದಗಳ ಭಾಷಣ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಅವರನ್ನು ತೆಗಳುವಂಥ ಒಂದೆರಡು ಹುಳುಕುಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ತಡಕಾಡುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ" ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿದೆ. ಏನೂ ಸಿಗದಿದ್ದರೆ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಟ್ವಿಸ್ಟು, ಟರ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಮೋದಿಯವರನ್ನು ತೆಗಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಅವುಗಳಿಗಾದರೂ ಟಿಆರ್‌ಪಿ ಚಿಂತೆಯಿದೆ. ನಿಮಗ್ಯಾವ ದರ್ದಿದೆ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ?


"ಮೋದಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾದರೆ ಈ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ" ಎಂಬ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಬರೋಣ. ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಟೀಕಿಸುವ, ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುವ ಹಕ್ಕು ಖಂಡಿತ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಇದೆ. ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ, ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಭೇದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೂ, ದ್ವೇಷ, ಮತ್ಸರ ಹೊರಹಾಕುವುದಕ್ಕೂ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವಿಲ್ಲವೆ 2004ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರು ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾಗುವ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಾದಾಗ "ಆಕೆ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾದರೆ ನಾನು ತಲೆ ಬೋಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಬಿಳಿ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ತೊಡುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಕಾಳು-ಕಡ್ಡಿ ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತೇನೆ, ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗುತ್ತೇನೆ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದ ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ನಾಯಕಿ ಸುಷ್ಮಾ ಸ್ವರಾಜ್ ಹೇಗೆ ನಗೆಪಾಟಲಿಗೀಡಾಗಿದ್ದರು ಎಂಬುದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲವೆ? ಆದರೆ ಸುಷ್ಮಾ ಸ್ವರಾಜ್‌ಗಿಂತಲೂ ಕೀಳಾದ ಹೇಳಿಕೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿರಲ್ಲಾ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಾತಿನ ಉದ್ದೇಶ, ಅರ್ಥವೇನು? ಮೋದಿಯನ್ನು ಸರ್ವಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಎನ್ನುವ ನೀವು, 1975ರಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದಿರಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರು ದೇಶದ ಸಂವಿಧಾನವನ್ನೇ ಅಮಾನತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟು ತುರ್ತು ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಹೇರಿದಾಗ ಆಕೆ ತೋರಿದ್ದು ನಿಜವಾದ ಸರ್ವಾಧಿಕಾರಿ ಧೋರಣೆ. ಆಗೇಕೆ ದೇಶಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋಗುವ ಮಾತು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಬಾಯಿಂದ ಬಂದಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ 1983ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸ್ಸಾಂನ ನೆಲ್ಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 24 ಗಂಟೆಯೊಳಗೆ 3,300 ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರ ಮಾರಣಹೋಮ ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಆಗಲೂ ಇಂದಿರಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರೇ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ಯುಪಿಎ ಸರ್ಕಾರವೇ ಸಂಸತ್ತಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಗುಜರಾತ್ ಹಿಂಸಾಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಡಿದ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಮರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ 790. ಅಸ್ಸಾಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತಿದ್ದು 3 ಸಾವಿರದ ಮೂನ್ನೂರಕ್ಕೆ, 3 ಸಾವಿರದ ಮೂನ್ನೂರೂ ಮುಸಲ್ಮಾನರೇ. ಆಗ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲೂ ಇದ್ದಿದ್ದು ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳೇ. "ಮೋದಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿಯೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಏನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ?" ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗೆ, "ಪ್ರಾಯವಾಯಿತು, ಏನು ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗುತ್ತೆ. ಮೊದಲಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಖಂಡಿತ ಮೋದಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾಗುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ" ಎಂದಿದ್ದೀರಲ್ಲಾ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳೇ, ನೆಲ್ಲಿ ಹತ್ಯಾಕಾಂಡ ನಡೆದಾಗ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿರ ಯುವಕನಂತೆಯೇ ವರ್ತಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದಿರಿ. ಆಗ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪೌರುಷ, ಗಂಡಸುತನ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗಿತ್ತು? ಅಥವಾ ಯಾವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗಿತ್ತು? ಅದು ಬಿಡಿ, 1984ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರೂವರೆ ಸಾವಿರ ಸಿಖ್ಖರ ಹತ್ಯೆಯಾದಾಗಲೂ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿರ ಯೌವನವೇ ಇತ್ತು. ಆಗೇಕೆ ಇಂಥ ಮಾತುಗಳು ನಿಮ್ಮಿಂದ ಹೊರಬಂದಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ?


ಇವೆಲ್ಲ ಬೇಡ ಬಿಡಿ, 1983, ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ 3ನ್ನು ಭಾರತೀಯರು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಇಡೀ ಮನುಕುಲ ಮರೆಯುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವತ್ತು ನೀವು ದ್ವೇಷಿಸುವ ಅಮೆರಿಕದ ಯೂನಿಯನ್ ಕಾರ್ಬೈಡ್ ಕಂಪನಿಯಿಂದ ವಿಷಾನಿಲ ಸೋರಿಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಧ್ಯಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಭೋಪಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು, ಮರಿ ಎನ್ನದೆ 15 ಸಾವಿರ ಜನ ಕೂತು, ನಿಂತು, ಮಲಗಿದಲ್ಲೇ ಮಸಣ ಸೇರಿದರು. 3 ಲಕ್ಷ ಜನ ವಿಷಾನಿಲ ಸೇವಿಸಿ ಅಸ್ವಸ್ಥರಾದರು. ಒಟ್ಟು ಐದೂವರೆ ಲಕ್ಷ ಜನರ ವಿಷಾನಿಲದ ವಿಕೋಪಕ್ಕೆ ತುತ್ತಾದರು. ಆ ಕಂಪನಿಯ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥ ವಾರೆನ್ ಆ್ಯಂಡರ್‌ಸನ್‌ನನ್ನು ಮಧ್ಯಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಬಂಧಿಸಿದರೂ ಆತನನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡುವಂತೆ ಆದೇಶಿಸಿದ, ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಖಾಸಗಿ ವಿಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ದೇಶಬಿಟ್ಟು ಪಲಾಯನ ಮಾಡಲು ಅವಕಾಶ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟ ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿ ನಿಮಗೆ ಏಕೆ ಯಾವತ್ತೂ ನರಹಂತಕರಂತೆ ಕಾಣಲಿಲ್ಲ? ತುಂಬುಪ್ರಾಯದಲ್ಲೇ ಇದ್ದ ನೀವು 1984ರ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಾದರೂ ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಪ್ರಚಾರಾಂದೋಲನ ಮಾಡಬಹುದಿತ್ತಲ್ಲವೆ? ಅಂದೇಕೆ, ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿಯಂಥ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನಿರಬಾರದು ಎಂದು ನಿಮಗನಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ?


ಇನ್ನು ನೀವು ಹೇಳಿದ ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರ "ಕ್ಷಮೆ, ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪ"ದ ಕಥೆಗೆ ಬರೋಣ. "ಇಂದಿರಾ ಹತ್ಯೆ ನಂತರದ ಸಿಖ್ ಹತ್ಯಾಕಾಂಡವೂ ಭೀಕರವಾದುದೇ. ಆದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿ ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪ ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರು ಯಾವಾಗ ಸಿಖ್ಖರ ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಕೇಳಿದರು? ಯಾವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದರು? ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಆಧಾರ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೀರಾ? 2005, ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 12ರಂದು ಸಂಸತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಮನಮೋಹನ್ ಸಿಂಗ್, "1984ರ ದಂಗೆ ಸಲುವಾಗಿ ಸಿಖ್ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಕೇಳಲು ನನಗೆ ಯಾವ ಅಂಜಿಕೆಯೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ನಾನು ಬರೀ ಸಿಖ್ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಇಡೀ ದೇಶದ ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಕೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ" ಎಂದರು. ಇದನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷ ಕೇಳಿದ ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಎಂದು ಬಿಂಬಿಸಲಾಯಿತು ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ. ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರು ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದು ಆಪರೇಶನ್ ಬ್ಲೂ ಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ. ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ, ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಸಿಖ್ ಹತ್ಯಾಕಾಂಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪವಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ 2004ರ ಲೋಕಸಭೆ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಏಕೆ ಸಿಖ್ಖರ ಹತ್ಯೆಯ ನೇತೃತ್ವ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದ ಜಗದೀಶ್ ಟೈಟ್ಲರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಜ್ಜನ್ ಕುಮಾರ್‌ಗೆ ಟಿಕೆಟ್ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು? ಏಕಾಗಿ ಜಗದೀಶ್ ಟೈಟ್ಲರ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಾಗರೋತ್ತರ ಖಾತೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸಚಿವರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು?


ಇನ್ನು ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಏಕಾಗಿ ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಕೇಳಿದರು ಎಂಬ ಕಥೆ ಕೇಳಿ. 2000ದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಜಪೇಯಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಸಿಖ್ ಹತ್ಯಾಕಾಂಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮರು ತನಿಖೆ ನಡೆಸುವಂತೆ ನಾನಾವತಿ ಆಯೋಗವನ್ನು ರಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿತ್ತು. ಅದು 2005, ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವರದಿ ನೀಡಿತು. ಆ ವರದಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಚರ್ಚೆ ನಡೆಯಬೇಕೆಂದು ಪ್ರತಿಪಕ್ಷಗಳು ಸಂಸತ್ತಿನ ಮಳೆಗಾಲದ ಅಧಿವೇಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಟ್ಟು ಹಿಡಿದವು. ಎಡಪಕ್ಷಗಳೂ ಹಠ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅನಿವಾರ್ಯತೆಗೆ ಸಿಲುಕಿದ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಚರ್ಚೆಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿತು. ವರದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೀವ್ರ ಆರೋಪಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಸಚಿವ ಜಗದೀಶ್ ಟೈಟ್ಲರ್ ರಾಜೀನಾಮೆ ನೀಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ವಿರೋಧ ಪಕ್ಷಗಳು ಹಠ ಹಿಡಿದಿದ್ದರಿಂದ 2005, ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 11ರಂದು ಟೈಟ್ಲರ್ ರಾಜೀನಾಮೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಮರುದಿನ, ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳ ಮರು ತನಿಖೆಯಾಗಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಒತ್ತಾಯ ಬಂದಾಗ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಬಾಯ್ಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಸಿಖ್ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಕ್ಷಮೆ ಕೇಳಲು ನನಗೆ ಯಾವ ಅಂಜಿಕೆಯೂ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದರು ಅಷ್ಟೇ. ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ, ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರಿಗೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪವಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ತಪ್ಪಿತಸ್ಥರಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆಯಾಗಬೇಕೆಂದು ಅವರ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗನಿಸಿದ್ದರೆ 2009ರಲ್ಲಿ ಜಗದೀಶ್ ಟೈಟ್ಲರ್‌ಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಸಿಬಿಐ ಕ್ಲೀನ್ ಚಿಟ್ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿತು? ಏಕಾಗಿ ಟೈಟ್ಲರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಜ್ಜನ್ ಕುಮಾರ್ ವಿರುದ್ಧದ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ಹಿಂತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಮುಂದಾಯಿತು? ಇದುವರೆಗೂ ಸಿಖ್ ಹತ್ಯಾಕಾಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದವರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆಯಾಗಿದೆ ಹೇಳಿ? ಒಬ್ಬ ಸಿಖ್ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದರೂ ಏಕೆ ಸಿಖ್ಖರಿಗೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ಕೊಡಿಸಲಾಗಿಲ್ಲ? ಪಿ. ಚಿದಂಬರಂ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೂಟನ್ನೆಸೆದ ಜರ್ನೈಲ್‌ಸಿಂಗನ ""I Accuse'' ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನೋದಿದ್ದೀರಾ? ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ ಓದಿದ್ದರೆ ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರು ಪಶ್ಚಾತ್ತಾಪ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಖಂಡಿತ ನೀವು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದಿರಲಿ ಸೋನಿಯಾ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರ ಪರ ವಕಾಲತ್ತು ವಹಿಸುವ ಜರೂರತ್ತು ನಿಮಗೇನಿತ್ತು?


"ನಾನು ಯಾವ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಮೋದಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವಂಥ ಒರಟುತನವನ್ನು ಕಾಣಲಿಲ್ಲ" ಎಂದಿದ್ದೀರಿ! ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರೇ, ಮೋದಿಯವರನ್ನು ನೀವು ಯಾವಾಗ ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಿರಿ? ಕೃಷಿ ಭೂಮಿ, ಬಂಗಲೆ ಕೇಳುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಭೇಟಿಯಾದಾಗ ಮೋದಿ ಒಪ್ಪದೆ ಒರಟುತನ ತೋರಿದರೇ?! ಖಂಡಿತ ಒಬ್ಬರ ಒರಟುತನವನ್ನು ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಭೇಟಿ, ಅನುಭವದಿಂದಲೇ ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕೆಂದೇನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಮಾತು ಒರಟಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮೃದುವಾಗಿರುವಂಥ ಹಾಲಿ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯನವರ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ಕಣ್ಣಮುಂದಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಮೋದಿಯವರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒರಟುತನ ಕಂಡಿತು? ಉತ್ತರ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಉರ್ದು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ "ನಯೀ ದುನಿಯಾ"ದ ಶಾಹಿದ್ ಸಿದ್ಧಿಕಿಯವರಿಗೆ 2012ರಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಸಂದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲಿ "ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ ಗುಜರಾತ್ ಹಿಂಸಾಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಪಾತ್ರವಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಸಾಬೀತಾದರೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕವಾಗಿ ಗಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಿ. ಅದರಿಂದ ಮುಂದಿನವರಿಗೂ ಒಂದು ಪಾಠವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ" ಎಂದು ಬಹಿರಂಗವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿರುವ ಮೋದಿಯವರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿನಮ್ರತೆ ಬದಲು ಒರಟುತನ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಕಂಡಿತು? 1984ರ ಸಿಖ್ ಹತ್ಯಾಕಾಂಡದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ 'ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮರ ಉರುಳಿದಾಗ ಭೂಮಿ ಅಲುಗುವುದು ಸಹಜ" ಎಂದು ಲಜ್ಜೆಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಮರ್ಥಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ರಾಜೀವ್ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣದ ಒರಟುತನ ಮೋದಿಯವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದೆಯೇ? 1.86 ಲಕ್ಷ ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ. ಹಗರಣದ ಕಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಲು ಗುತ್ತಿಗೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಫೈಲುಗಳೆಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂದರೆ, “I am not the custodian of files” (ಕಡತಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಪಿಡುವ ಕೆಲಸ ನನ್ನದಲ್ಲ), ಅರ್ಥವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯೇಕೆ ಕುಸಿಯುತ್ತಿದೆಯೆಂದರೆ, "ದುಡ್ಡು ಗಿಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ’’(Money does not grow on trees) ಎನ್ನುವ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ, ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ ಬೆಲೆಯೇಕೆ ಗಗನಕ್ಕೇರಿದೆ ಎಂದರೆ 'ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಈರುಳ್ಳಿ ಮಾರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ' ಎನ್ನುವ ಮಾನವ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ಖಾತೆ ಸಚಿವ ಕಪಿಲ್ ಸಿಬಲ್‌ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣದ ಒರಟುತನ, ಅಹಂಕಾರ ನಿಮಗೆ ಮೋದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದೆ ಅಲ್ಲವೆ? ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳೇ ಇಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೂ ಮೋದಿಯೇನು ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಯ ವಿವಿ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥರನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ ಮಾಡಿಲ್ಲ, ಮುಂದೆ "ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರತ್ನ"ವನ್ನೂ ನೀಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವುದೇನಿದ್ದರೂ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ಸೇ. ನೀವು ಹಿಡಿದಿರುವ ಮಾರ್ಗ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿಯೇ ಇದೆ ಬಿಡಿ. ಇನ್ನು, ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಮಾತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಕಾಡುಹರಟೆ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ಏಕವಚನದಿಂದ ಸಂಬೋಧಿಸುವುದು, ಕರೆಯುವುದು ಸಹಜ. ಆದರೆ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ವೇದಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವಾಗಲೂ ಒಂದು ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಯನ್ನು, ಒಂದು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಯನ್ನು ಏಕವಚನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರೆಯುವುದು ಎಷ್ಟರಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಸರಿ? ರಾಹುಲ್ ಗಾಂಧಿಯವರೂ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಪಕ್ಷದ ಅಘೋಷಿತ ಪ್ರಧಾನಿ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಯೇ. ಅವರನ್ನು ವಿರೋಧಿಸುವವರೆಲ್ಲ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನು, ಇವನು ಎಂದು ಸಂಭೋದಿಸಿದರೆ ಸರಿ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆಯೇ? ಹಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಅನಂತಮೂರ್ತಿಯವರು, ಮೋದಿಯವರನ್ನು ಅವನು, ಇವನು ಎಂದು ಸಂಭೋದಿಸಿರುವುದು ಏನನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ?


ಕಡೆಯದಾಗಿ, ನಿಮಗೊಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ: ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕೋಮುವಾದಿಗಳ ನೆಲೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಕಳೆದ ಹತ್ತಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಲೇ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೀರಿ, ಬಿಜೆಪಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ 5 ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಂತೂ ಇನ್ನೂ ಜೋರಾಗಿ ಬೊಬ್ಬೆ ಹಾಕಿದಿರಿ. ಈಗ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣದಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವ ಎನ್‌ಐಎ "ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಭಯೋತ್ಪಾದಕರ ತಾಣವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ" ಎಂದಿದೆ. ಯಾಸೀನ್ ಭಟ್ಕಳ ಬಂಧನದ ನಂತರ ತನಿಖೆಗಾಗಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿಗೂ ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ನಮ್ಮ ಕರಾವಳಿಯು ದೇಶದ್ರೋಹಿಗಳ, ಭಯೋತ್ಪಾದಕರ ನೆಲೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದೇಕೆ ನೀವು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ?


ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರತಿ ವಾಕ್ಯದಲ್ಲೂ ಇರುವ ಅಪದ್ಧ, ಅಸಹಿಷ್ಣತೆಯನ್ನು, ಅವಹೇಳನಕಾರಿ ಧ್ವನಿಯನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿತೋರಬಹುದು. ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದರೆ ಸಹವರ್ತಿಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಸುಳ್ಳುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾರುವ ಬದಲು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಭೇದವಿರುವವರ ಜತೆ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಚರ್ಚೆಗೆ ಬನ್ನಿ. ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಜನತೆಗೆ ಸತ್ಯವೇನೆಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಾಗಲಿ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ನೀವು ಸಿದ್ಧರಿದ್ದೀರಾ?

I have read a few translations of Pratap Simha's columns on Sandeepweb. It takes a lot of courage to write what Pratap does, he has been threatened and beaten up for it. Both Sandeep and Pratap were writing pro-right wing and common sense stuff for a long time. I learnt about S. L Bhyrappa through their columns.

You know I held the same views and opinions on subjects like you do not so long ago. Thought people like Ananthamurthy and Girish Karnad are intellectuals. It was not until I started reading Sandeep and Swapan Dasgupta that I woke up to the lies spread about by the establishment.

I usually read all kinds of articles and literature, helps me understand the conflicting viewpoints better. To me, S.L.Bhyrappa's books are the works of a true scholar. A person who's studied the subject very carefully before writing on it. Don't find the same level of professionalism in Pratap Simha's works. He's bold alright, but not very thorough. He also had a long-running public spat with Ravi Belegare over some issue, and he used to act really childishly on FB and News channels for some reason. Not the mark of a learned man, IMO.

U R Ananthamurthy simply does not deserve that Jnanpith Award. Girish karnad's political views may be different, but at least some of his works are really good, as far as literature is concerned. Don't know what the experts saw in U.R.A's prose!

Oh I missed all that. It would have been fun to watch the fireworks. But I seriously loved it when U.R.A was sent the Rs. 11 money order to leave the country when he threatened to leave India if Modi won. I cannot stand Girish Karnad now either, especially after his outburst against VS Naipaul.

Come to think of it much of the literature awarded and praised over the years in India has been really really substandard. There is no a single writer Indian writer who is worth reading in English. Girish Karnad belongs to this club too.

It is even worse than my Kannada. I can understand Tamil and Malayalam to the same degree and speak a few sentences. Both my parents speak 7-8 languages fluently. It will be difficult for a malyali to know that they are not from Kerala, but unfortunately neither me nor my siblings are so gifted.
