Kalabagh Dam a lifeline for country’s future

there are 12 alternatives to kalabagh..so crying over kalabagh is nothing but an excuse not to build any dams...
its like child wanting to buy corolla 2013 model when corolla 2014, 2015 are there
few examples are
1. akhori
2.sanjwal
3.rotas
4. bhahsa
5.dok pathan
6. bahtar

other than no. 4 all can be built within 4-5 years due to their location and were proposed as alternatives to kalabagh

Totally agree with this. Kalabagh has been an excuse for not building other dams. Dok Pathan is a very good site and it can even be extended to a bigger reservoir (up to 38maf). The only problem will be the availability of water. This will need canal links from Indus (expensive but Pakistan has the expertise as this will be similar to Gazi Brotha). This dam can even be a flood control measure. I will go on and say that every province should have a flood control measure and there are sites available in every province which can be used. Power can be produced from many sources but there is no alternative for water shortage other than building reservoirs and planning (Pakistan is already a water stressed country and with the population increasing at the current level I am sure people will die due to water shortage).

PS.
noone denies kalabagh importance but i can assure even if there is no opposition on dam , it will not be built as evident from info above

There is a Hydel Power potential of over 80000 MW as reported in various studies, Kala Bagh dam is just an excuse. We SHOULD get over it. The thing is the governments are not serious in this regard, they wont touch a project unless they know they will be able to sell it and buy back votes. Any of the projects you mentioned wont be completed in one elected terms so there are chances that someone else will take credit for the project started by some other government, this is what is important isn't it? the credit!! If any of our past governments were serious about this things would have been very different but they are more interested in projects with quicker voe returns, tangible things that voters can see and the officials can boast about!!

Stating that we have electricity shortage or WILL have water shortage because Kalabag was not approved by this party or that is bullshit, we have these problems because we never were interested in starting and making ANY SINGLE project with long terms vision!

Only if Bhasha dam is ignored right now which is not happening. Bhasha dam should be completed by 2025.
It is being ignored. You need to visit the site or check with some locals about the work done at site, apart from three or four GROUND BREAKING there is nothing happening apart from chest thumping!

.
exactly you have 80,000 mw potential and you are still crying over kalabagh...!!
remember that human cost of bhasha dam is 104 billion rupees kalabagh would be much more due to its location

Rs 21 billion has been allocated to buy land, once initial work is completed which will cost around $1b. After that even coming goverments will not have any choice but continue to work on it. PPP just did ground breaking for point scoring without doing any work.

. .
Nawaz Govt is in the same boat. It will remain a dream unless you get rid of Shareef and Bhutto family.

Army has ruled almost 35 years. Politicians are nuts but why army did not build Kalabagh dam.
I always ranked army above them so expecting bigger and my thoughts always asking me why army did not.
very unfortunate.

First time money was allocated to buy land some 6 years back, after that every year we allocate more money (stating that this is all that is required) and our running PM (whoever it is at that time) goes for ground breaking ceremony!! Kb tk awam ko pagal bnain gay yaar??

More about fundings?
2011, govt released the funds and project was given a financial go ahead:
Govt releases funds for Bhasha Dam only

2012, we looked to China for funds
Diamer-Bhasha dam: Govt to seek Chinese funding

in 2013, dar sb said that WB is funding the project,
WB has agreed to finance Diamer-Bhasha dam: Dar - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

then in 2014:
No World Bank funds for Bhasha dam project

then there is ADB fundings, same story there as well.....

I am sorry to tell you but NOTHING PRACTICAL IS HAPPENING.... allocating funds, the way they are done i shared above, wont help us any bit unless we SERIOUSLY start working practically on this project.

very unfortunate.
first 13 years of army rule there was no need for dams.
in next 20 years they built two dams tarbela/mangla and then rebuild another dam(mangla uprising 3MAF), at time when there were very little resources to build dams.

these days building dams is much easier to much more resources available
