The deadly attack occurred in Shirzad district, a place where Taliban and Islamic State militants are active. Also the intra-Afghan peace process, to end such deadly attacks, has been pushed to a deadlock, generating a climate of fear and bloodshed

AT News

KABUL: At least 14 soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden Humvee tank to their outpost in the eastern Nangarhar province.

A security official in the province speaking on anonymity, said the incident took place early Saturday in the Shirzad district, where 16 soldiers were stationed.

Provincial governor office had earlier said that eight soldiers were killed.

Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the militants said 50 government forces were killed and wounded by the bomber identified as Mullah Yousuf Kandahari.

“Eight members of the Public Civil Order forces were martyred and few more received injuries,” Nangarhar Press Disk said in a statement.

Shirzad is one of the most unsafe of Nangarhar’s 22 districts. It has been the scene of bloody clashes between government forces and Taliban fighters for several times.

Also, Taliban militants and Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh terrorist group, are very much active in the district.

On the other hand, the Afghan security forces succeeded to discover and seize a Mazda model vehicle full of explosives near Shirazad and Bilal Mosque, which was on the way to Jalabad for terrorist activity, the statement added.

The Afghan security forces would hold efforts to eliminate terrorist’s hideout in the province, the statement added.

This comes as the ongoing peace talks in Doha, has been once again faced deadlock. The Taliban are not ready to join the talks, rather asked President Ashraf Ghani to resign for the sake of peace.

In return, President Ghani said he is obligated to hand over the power to his successor through legal channel and the people’s will.

President Ghani said he is not the obstacle rather he is the champion of peace.

Hellhole of a country...!!!
I see a return of cricket stadium executions, shuttle cock burqa, no education for girls and ban on shaving, if Taliban get back to power.

I quote from my late last year's thread about an Afghan woman police officer who was stabbed and shot by some Talibs because she dared to have a job despite opposition from her father :
In recent months, the Taliban have said they will respect women's rights under Sharia law but many educated women say they have doubts. The insurgent group has opposed a reform to add mother's names to identity cards, one of the first concrete stances they have revealed on women's rights as they engage in the peace process.
Obviously the "Sharia law" that the Taliban will enact will be their perverted interpretation.

Their nation their rules.. We should not interfere in their internal matter

So why did Zia ul Haq's Pakistan government interfere in Afghanistan's internal matter in the 1980s, to the extent of collaborating with Western governments in destroying the socialist governance of that country ?

To curry favour with the Americans ? Zia was also a fundamentalist so he didn't want the godless communist/socialist system spreading further south. To save Islam from communism, basically.

Later Pakistani rulers and the military also were of the opinion than an Islamist ruled Afghanistan would provide Pakistan with "strategic depth". A big pool of hardened jihadists to deploy against India in Kashmir.

Its still their country they are free to do as they wish.
No matter how the world see's them.
It’s not their internal problem when millions of afghans will run to neighbouring countries to escape the draconian taliban. It then becomes an international problem and human rights issue.

Go sleep in bunker if anyone have issue with afghanistan.
Its free will of the country to do as they wish.
Its not about earning it"s about governing.

As expected, the bastar.ds in Biden Administration are trying to get out of the peace deal by blaming this on the Taliban. So it is obvious that this Peace Deal is going down the Toilets soon. The biggest question is - what will the back bending Generals do now when US refuses to leave?? Do they have the guts to go all out and refuse US/Nato any Air and land traffic?? Do they have the courage to say the truth? UNFORTUNATELY, last 40-years of Afghanistan history has shown that the generals DO NOT HAVE THE GUTS. And once again, Pakistan's people will be subjected to terror attacks from Afghanistan and India. And as usual, the generals will sit back and let the ordinary people die.

I will quote Goenitz's post :
Shouldn't be against civil and UN basic human rights....
Else Dehli riots/farmers protests are indian internal matters..

We all are human and should have concern for any human who is being oppressed, whether in Palestine or in South Africa or in USA. If my father was part of a pan-India banking employees employee union it was because of a progressive precedent set in other societies.

To curry favour with the Americans ? Zia was also a fundamentalist so he didn't want the godless communist/socialist system spreading further south.

The underlined being the most prominent one. I believe he was a member of the Tablighi Jamaat.

To save Islam from communism, basically.

Zia was a misguided person who did not chance upon any previous study or information that modern Communism was a continuance of historical progressive thought including Islam. I quote from my 2016 thread :
During the same period (1920s-30s), another (though lesser known) Islamic scholar in undivided India got smitten by the 1917 Russian revolution and Marxism.

Hafiz Rahman Sihwarwl saw Islam and Marxism sharing five elements in common: (1) prohibition of the accumulation of wealth in the hands of the privileged classes (2) organisation of the economic structure of the state to ensure social welfare (3) equality of opportunity for all human beings (4) priority of collective social interest over individual privilege and (5) prevention of the permanentising of class structure through social revolution.

The motivations for many of these themes he drew from the Qur’an, which he understood as seeking to create an economic order in which the rich pay excessive, though voluntary taxes (Zakat) to minimise differences in living standards.

In the areas that Sihwarwl saw Islam and communism diverge were Islam’s sanction of private ownership within certain limits, and in its refusal to recognise an absolutely classless basis of society.

He suggested that Islam, with its prohibition of the accumulation of wealth, is able to control the class structure through equality of opportunity.

Basically, both Sindhi and Sihwarwl had stumbled upon an Islamic concept of the social democratic welfare state.

Later Pakistani rulers and the military also were of the opinion than an Islamist ruled Afghanistan would provide Pakistan with "strategic depth".

Agreed.

A big pool of hardened jihadists to deploy against India in Kashmir.

I don't think any Afghan-war fighters or their descendants will be sent into Kashmir because it will contaminate the idea that the Kashmiri uprising is an indigenous one.
