Attack, absolutely I agree. No one deserves that regardless of who they are.

However arrest is perfectly legitimate under the color of law. Not all journalists are above board. Many operate in very murky waters and it is fair to make a distinction. We should not give institutional cover to people. Just like we are holding Voldermort to account and reject that he can take cover under the institution, the same logic applies to journalists. Yes they all get a level of protection, freedom and discretion due to their occupation, but at the end of the day they too should be held responsible for their individual acts.

The level of external interactions, notations, order taking, comms with foreign intel assets, etc., and money trail, it is mind boggling. You'll be shocked if you knew how crazy this entire set up is, and is now completely out of control. Once again thanks to our SSG. During his years hundreds of people were sent abroad (yes hundreds) for training in foreign capitals paid by some western countries to "study" journalism. This was a huge red flag raised as a concern back then by our agencies, but quashed thanks to the love affair we were in. That is a gift that is paying in spades today. Things don't go bad in one swoop, their tentacles are years prior and engineered and thought through and executed over time.

I absolutely do not condone what happened to Matiullah Jan or Asad Toor, no matter how much I differ from their views.

In a similar vein, I absolutely do not condone what is happening to Imran Riaz, even though he is a PTI supporter. Yet, I hate that guy to the core of my heart. He is nothing but a click bait sensationalist headline creator, who is posing as a journalist. He seldom has anything of substance. Same with Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, and Arshad Sharif even.
