A JF-17 taxies out to start their display at BIAS 2022. This is the second aircraft to be used, as the first one went unserviceable at the start of the demo slot.

Oooooo. Conformal fuel tanks would free up wing pylons
They had looked at it and the overwing conformal fuel tanks was not feasible for the current airframe due to structural limitations.

What happened exactly with the first that made it unserviceable?

The JF-17s are armed with the C-802A, a turbojet powered air-launched anti-ship cruise missile with a speed of Mach 0.9, a maximum range of around 190 kilometres and a 165 kg high-explosive, semi-armour piercing warhead.

Any minor issue would mean the aircraft would not fly due to the location and nature of flying with civilians around. So extra caution has to be taken where safety is concerned, which is also why a spare aircraft is always present.

I'm not sure. My old man was flying in the display and he heard it on the radio that they were switching aircraft due to startup issues.

Makes sense, hopefully, they stay safe.
