The Indians made a mistake. So many aircraft just for one go.... The cannot adapt in one big bang from Mig21 level to Rafale in just a few years. And the French are stealing your cash like no other.

Actually, the French still don't have a firm contract in hand, from India. Would have been better if they had supplied PAF what it wanted, in those 6-8 years that it took India to get the (still pending) contract.

Thats funny as hell really, they toyed French to toy PAF, then toyed again by dangling them in Rafale deal and still not committed to it.

Well said. Wondering what would happen to India's repo as a buyer if by any chance rafale deals is abandoned.

This last toying may cost them if it doesn't go through ;) No one will take them seriously next time in case they abandon the Rafale deal.

India will definitely go for Rafale there is no alternative ... Yes Delay is there, but for a good cause... It is a huge contract.. The deal is not just acquiring jets.. But bringing french tech to India to boost our self reliance.. If ToT is not part of the deal, we might sealed the deal years ago...

Maybe but if I am not wrong final verdict on Rafale came in 2012? Considering it already took 4-5 years wasn't TOT suppose to be part of agreement?

The deal is under process... It will be signed soon... IAF don't have alternatives ... Now the problem is Production facility...

Names are good enough for me. A HUD is a HUD. A HUD is not a reflector sight.

Hi,

But my boy---all aesa are not the same---neither are the bvr's wvr's off bore site missiles the same---and neither the electronic warfare packages.

Your anology is that a car is a car is a car. But it is not as simple as that.

i have a question
since blk 2 is suppose to have a few more new gadgets, wouldn't that decrease thrust to weight ratio even further?
And I'm pretty sure, to keep the cost down, PAF won't be using much plastic in the air frame construction.

It may incorporate light weight composites in in the airframe.

TOT was very much part of the deal but what we r currently negotiating is the level of TOT we'll get in AESA radar, Spectra EW n even engine.

Plus the 50% offset clause also need to be worked out carefully as we don't want to end up as another Saudi Arabia.:)

There is no real TOT. Those are just terms often used in these deals. In the end you get some assembly or production part. Which idiot is giving anyone else TOT for an AESA? And if you were so damn good then you would not need 5 decades to build third generation LCA. And then still import most important parts.

Thunder Over Dubai As First JF-17 Batch Is Completed
Dubai Air Show » 2013
by David Donald

The Sino-Pakistani JF-17 Thunder is being promoted as a capable yet affordable multi-role warplane.
November 18, 2013, 10:25 AM
Next month a ceremony will be held in Pakistan to mark the delivery of the 50th JF-17 multirole fighter from the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) factory at Kamra. The handover marks the completion of production of the first batch of aircraft for the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). Designed in China by Chengdu as the FC-1, the JF-17 Thunder is being jointly developed and marketed by the Chinese and PAC.
With the first batch completed, the Kamra factory is gearing up to begin Block 2 production, with a gap of a few weeks to reconfigure the assembly line to provide for the new version. Block 2 JF-17s differ by between 10 and 15 percent from Block 1 machines, with improvements implemented across much of the avionics suite. The most important difference is the addition of an air-to-air refueling capability.
Block 2 will cover a further 50 aircraft and will complete the current firm orders from the PAF for 100 JF-17s. However, the eventual force requirement is considerably greater as the JF-17 replaces the F-5, F-7 and Mirage in PAF service. The factory is currently producing at a rate of 16 aircraft per year, but can increase to 25 if needed. All JF-17s are assembled in Pakistan, but China retains around 40 percent of the total workshare.
The JF-17 partnership is currently in the process of defining what the configuration of the Block 3 production aircraft will be, with the main aim of enhancing capability. This may include new weapons, from both Chinese and other origins, and possibly new radar and engine. The JF-17 already has the SD-10 (PL-12) active-radar air-to-air missile, and other weapons are being explored. PAC claims that integration of new weapons can be accomplished in a quick and cost-effective fashion.
Chengdu has schemed a two-seat trainer version that may prove attractive to some customers. It is understood that the project remains an engineering study only for now, and any further development would depend on a customer requirement. Pakistan has no such need for a trainer for the time being, as it has found the JF-17 to be an easy aircraft to fly with an excellent human/machine interface. The development of capable simulators means that the conversion of pilots to the type can be accomplished without the need for a two-seater, even for ab initio pilots flying the JF-17 as their first operational type. However, the future development of a two-seat combat aircraft is a possibility.
Here at Dubai the JF-17 is being displayed daily by Wing Commander Ronald, commander of No. 16 ‘Black Panthers’ Squadron. PAC has sent three aircraft to the show to promote the JF-17 to potential buyers. The company suggests that there is a global requirement to replace up to 4,000 early-generation jet fighters, and it is pitching the JF-17 as a cost-effective aircraft that offers true multi-role capability. PAC reports that 11 countries are showing strong interest in the type.

I read.

The question was who gives TOT for AESA radar. Also what does TOT means.

The answer was a typical nonsense.

ToT meant not necessarily like baby feeding... we are technologically lagged...So acquiring the tech involved in Rafale... To get rid of spare parts problem.. as well as it will be helpful for the future project AMCA... Just like pak able to access all the tech involved in JF-17(just giving ex)...

Jf-17jf-17 has formed a fighting force in the bar iron, the fighter can be said to be a light multirole fighter is very advanced, most configuration of it belongs to the four generation machine configuration, so his performance is very good,is a very high price fighter. The original and bar iron cooperative R & D thefighter was Chinese qualitative for export, why not China air force equipmentso performance fighter.

First of all, Chinese HNA if there is war, then the battlefield are basically inhundreds of kilometers, the oil loading amount of JF-17 can not meet the need.

Secondly, Chinese air forces are now equipped with J-10 and J-11 two kinds of light and heavy fighter partner, it is difficult to have a place to live in JF-17,and if the China air force equipment JF-17 ground also need to establish a new maintenance system, and even JF-17 equipped aircraft actually teamChina air force has no effect.
