If you have seen the recently released documentaries about PAC, it is obvious that JF17 is not a screw driver and paint job for PAC as suggested by many especially our neighbours from the east. Built up fuselages for only the first 3 aircrafts for Block 1 were shipped from China and the rest was assembled by PAC. It might be same for each block.

I loved those documentaries, short but very informative. Also the production values were very good. The producers of those documentaries did a great job. Hats off to them for making them in the first place and then making them so well. Brilliant. I know I am being greedy but I want more please. Thanks.

but this image indicates that possibly the fuselage as well is now being manufactured at home.
also remember the Pshamim post..where he said new CNC's are being imported to even manufacture the complete fuselage at home.

Sorry buddy I am not upto speed on the new developments in PAC nor am I aware of what PShahmim may have divulged. For those of us (me) in the dark, we would be grateful if you can inform us of what he said and whether these new CNCs have been installed and what percentage of the JFT we manufacture ourselves (wishfully hoping for 100%) :pakistan:

Indeed.i too think the same.this recent leaked configuration is for Block 3

so we have now some confirmed specs of JFT 3

*Redesigned diamond shaped nose
*Single Piece canopy
*Improved DSI
*Lerx modified similar to gripen
*Fixed IFR
*New engine(Pshamim)

these are the few known upgrades now.
AESA and Better avionics wont be a big deal

Thats means you will manufacture engines also and radar, and dont bring in CKD from china :)

Nops, engine will be foreign for a loooooooong time period.

Radar and many of the current avionics systems are being made at KARF. May be some critical parts or non critical parts coming from China, but majority of the systems are manufactured & assembled at KARF.

IIRC, from the chinese news, Block 2 specification was decided way back in 2011 and from Mid 2012 they were finalizing the specifications of block 3. That diamond shape and single piece canopy probably the block 3 designs that are being leaked through official channels

Basically he internet/forums known specs + the CGI published in AFM created these rumours. PAF was never too much ambitious about getting quick updates. All PAF wanted yesterday (and today) is not a fighter with "all technologies in one package" but simply an operational fighter to meet air defence demands.

Same is the reason why 2 Sqn were made operational first instead of splitting team in 3 units. Its good to see that re-equipment of units is done as per the text books, laying solid baseline for the future.

First, Icecold mentioned if this was an escort mission to the Chinese, why weren't the fighters armed. The escort arrived when the B747 entered Pakistani airspace which was far away from the border on either sides. The escort wasn't for safety issues but a welcoming gesture by PAF.

Second, as seen in the picture above, the smoke trial issue has once again arisen on the forum. JF-17 uses RD-93 engine, variant of RD-33. Russian Mig-29 uses the RD-33 engine and it has a lot of smoke especially during high output. This is normal though and is no issue.

The smoke comes when the pilot increases the thrust hence asking for greater output from the engines. The engine burns greater fuel but some of it isn't properly combusted resulting in thick black smoke. Without the afterburner, the smoke will also be seen when the engine reaches MIL power output (which is the maximum engine output- for the same reason).

Not only on RD-33 series, but most other engines also show the same phenomena. For example, F-15 and F-16s below:

The trial is light, but present. In newer engines, the issue isn't completely resolved but it only prevails in harsher conditions. End line: This is completely natural and safe, nothing to worry about here.
