Any source.. last I heard the 3rd squad hasnt been raised yet..

I think the production line is going strong. But the reason why squadrons are not getting them is due to lack of training of the new fighter. Its a bit silly of PAC to not make a dual seat fighter also. If that had been the case, then it would have taken a shorter time to get pilots ready for combat.

they will raise it officially once enough pilots are converted to 3rd squadron
 
The F-16 and F-15 engines produce enough dry/non after burning thrust values... same cannot be said about most of the Russian engines and specially RD-93/33.

Besides that currency hour flights is for real wartime preparations and not vanilla training... I am sure JF-17 load would increase once you have those pods, BVRs.. etc.. mounted.

Do you think that PAF / CAC did not know the strengths and weaknesses of the RD-93 -- when they built the JF-17 around this engine? Ofcoarse they did - and much better than anyone on this board.
Do you think they overlooked the fact that the JF-17 will not always be able to fly in clean configeration and may actualy have carry a load? Obviously.
Do you think the MTBO etc of the engine is a surprise to them? Ofcoarse not.
So given all of the above and given that they have no apparant concern about this engine - and niether has a single independant aerospace analyst expressed any concern with this engine being used on the jf-17- why are you so desperate to discredit the RD-93's use in the jf-17?
Is it because India tried so very hard to block its ally Russia from exporting this engine to Pakistan and having failed miserably to do this all that is left is to make negative remarks about the same engine - on the basis that - 'so what if they got it - its rubbish anyway' (sour grapes). It would be mighty interesting to see your comments on the RD-93 if it was powering the LCA.
 
Question to memebrs aware of JFT development program.. What limits development of CFT's for Thunder? Isn't it natual to think along these lines to overcome hortage of hard points on Thunders?
 
lets use some common sense

jft mass production started on 30 June 2009

first squadron raised on 18 Feb 2010 with 14 jft
2nd on 11 April 2011 with total 33 jft at that time

in Nov 2011 38 jft were in service

so in the span between 30 June 2009 to Nov 2011 38jft were in service(note in service and many might be in the production kind as well)

which means in 29months we made 38 jft in service
now its been 11 months.excluding the fact that pac capacity of manufacturing was increased and Considering the above production rate we can manufacturing 15 jft in 11 months

so on a rough estimate jft block 1 production might have been stopped in June July 2012

PRODUCTION stopped in October 2011, after the order of 50 JF-17 units was completed. However, one of the 3rd batch unit crashed during routine test flights on 13 November 2011 after facing FOD in intakes, killing the pilot, Wing Commander Mohammed Hussain. The crashed unit was replace.
 
Which Sq would be replaced next?

One of the oldest Mirage ones is on the list, since the F-7's have been deemed to have more life left in them as compared to the original Mirage sq.
However it is NOT the Mauripur sq.

One of my 'junior-most' source told me that the next Squadron is No.14 Tail Choppers. This is to be by early 2013 and meanwhile all Mirage at PAF Base Shahbaz will phase out and replaced by Block.II JF-17.

The Italics part was told by FM17.

Depends on airframe attrition, while 14sq operates some of the oldest F-7 airframes while having the crucial task of the defense of the capital it may have to wait.
Shahbaz no longer has any mirages present as all of 5th sq assets have been dispersed with other squadrons that operate the type.
Currently the PAF wants to keep the JF-17 concentrated up north for logistics costs purposes as any base in the south would demand logistics expansion which the PAF does not have the finances to undertake.
So it is possible that either Rafiqui will have a Mirage sq replaced or 14sq may be given JF-17's(where its F-7's then get dispersed among the remaining sq).
The south will have to contend with having the top of the line 5th sq as its primary tip of the spear.

I am not confirmed with this, and neither do I accept that I believe in such rumors, that No.14 shall be the next JF-17 Squadron; hence I had given the source. The person is from PAFFalcons and he did mention that No.15 shall be the next Squadron after No.14.

Now if you search this very thread, for posts from April 05, 2012, you shall see two posters living near PAF Base Masroor saying that about 7 am at morning till 7 30am, sixteen JF-17s arrived with 2-3 minuted interval escorted by an IL-78 (God knows why, certainly not refueling the JFT). But latter, they were moved back by the end of April. I did hear some rumors on this too, but they were too absurd to be digested or worth shared.

I think you stop believing in rumours:D. Such large scale deployment was not even done in High Mark 2010. In peace time, 4+ fighter a/c do visit out of station locations, but ALL squadron strength never moves in one day..not even in War. Weather and flight safety precautions are the some of the reasons.
