JF-17 (2P29) arrives in Pakistan

oops.......... my bad
will the block 3 have an irst such as the skyward irst [which is on the gripen] from italy ? what do you think?
Look at JFT, a IRST would require a comprehensive study. If you ask about the Selex unit, it cannot be fitted as is, and there are a lot of questions whether the Selex unit even would meet JF17 requirement.

They have said this is for F-16's bought from Jordan.

F16s already have a Pod, ATLIS for non-MLU, and SNIPER for MLU aircraft.

Aselsan of Turkey is working to develop a similar system to the French TopOwl Helmet, called the AVCI Helmet Integrated Cueing System. The system can also be further modified & utilized in JFT block-3.

AVCI HICS is for rotorcraft. High performing aircraft have different requirements.

no equipment just plugs in and work, mind you the skyward was made for the gripen. as for meetingthe requirements if the gripen ng is using it im sure it would be good or you can go for the larger pirate irst but thats too big and would need to be pretruding from the fusalage which is agood option as the jf-17 is a small bird which could relieve space for the cooling unit for the aesa among its cpu and the jf-17's main system/cpu

Will it be able to counter India latest pakfa plane

.
Just to add and please correct me if im wrong HOBS without HMD is useless and similarly HMD without HOBS is useless (For WVR fights) .

Hi,

They should be integrated at the same time---. It is great that the pilot does not need to use night vision goggles anymore---but it is simply not enough.

Not as simple as you describe.

I am sure the smart chaps in PAF have this figured out.

Ask the Turkish fan boys. We still don't have a customer official notification of buying the ASELPOD for JFT. It is just a mere analysis and conclusion based on experience.

@Bilal Khan 777 I was thinking about the JF-17's HMD/S options for a while. A contemporary digital system just does not seem to be available at the moment. Thales and the TopOwl-F aren't even options, not without India somehow managing to torpedo the Rafale as well as a couple of other programs with France. There is no Chinese system, and the South African technology is at this stage antiquated (and not even marketed).

With the exception of the Striker II, the only remotely plausible (incredibly unlikely) option would be to somehow get a South African or Turkish HMD/S that suspiciously looks like the Elbit DASH. You know, a new surprise HMD/S product from Denel or Aselsan, years in the making. That or we somehow manage to deal with a third party U.S. firm to buy the DASH, and then re-sell it to us as some U.S. branded product.

The tide is just gaining momentum in infinitesimal quantity for the Turkish folks after 300 years of gradual decline. Anything is possible. We call it Murad-i Ilahi (Divine plan/determination/execution)..

Turkey has little motivation to do a fighter HMD due to its easy access to the JHCMS. The JF-17's options lie from the more sophisticated European options to the rather rudimentary Chinese replicas of the Russian's basic Monocle displays for IR weapons; this has been currently tried and tested on a PAF platform.

We also call it Murad e Elahi ..... :p:

And should we expect integrated IRST or in the form of Pod?

Too difficult, but now that you got me thinking, I think the most likely candidate is the latest striker derivative, customised for JF17.

I dont believe it will be a separate system. The PAF would insist that it come as part of a targeting pod capable of being used A2A and A2G. The Sniper XR has this capability.
Oscar, the pod doesnt go on every aircraft or stay on every aircraft. IRST is an old wish list and catered for in the JF17 architecture, however, from where, and install where are big questions.

Turkey has big ambitions on TF/X, and getting a license from a European HMDS maker maybe viable alternative for them.

We appreciate that at least one more likeminded country takes the initiative. Long Live Turkey and Pakistan.

Hi,

You are correct---Turkey is going to go all out---avionics---aircrafts---weapons---fire control radars---ships---everything---.

I do not know what their intentions are about fighter aircraft engines---.

Oh I dont disagree, but the built in IRST solution has nowhere to go. We currently dont even have space for AESA's cooling so an IRST is a long shot.

The TFX is an ambitious project but any modules or equipment developed for it are at least five to ten years away and the requirement for HMS is current. The PG pilots have what they need but that is suited to their specific role of killing in the merge; at some point the JF will need that soon if it is to be competitive in the slash and dash fights of tomorrow.
