১৯৯৪ সালে আমার ফাঁসির দাবিতে বাংলাদেশের চার লাখ লোক রাস্তায় জড়ো হয়েছিল। আজকের শাহবাগের জনতা থেকে তারা সংখ্যায় বেশি ছিল। গত ২০ বছরে ইসলামপন্থীদের ক্ষমতা আরও বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। আমি বিশ্বাস করি ইসলামপন্থীরা শাহবাগের চেয়ে এক শ’ গুণ বেশি লোক জড়ো করতে সক্ষম। ফেসবুক, টুইটার অথবা ব্লগ ব্যবহারকারীদের চেয়ে বেশি লোক মাদরাসায় যায়। ইসলামপন্থীদের দ্বারা বেশি লোকের মগজ ধোলাই হয়েছে। আগের চেয়ে বেশি লোক এখন মসজিদে যায়। বহু বছর আগেই বাংলাদেশকে নিয়ে আমি আমার আশা ত্যাগ করেছি।
