JAC Motors To Produce Cars In Pakistan

The fire was the straw that broke the camels back but most of the damage was due to marketing as cheapest car. People don't want that stigma attached to them.
Actually the problem with the nano is that it isint that cheap. Current model with cng cpsts around 2.91 lacs. For a bit more you can get suzuki alto, hyundai eon, renault kwid etc which look like a segment above the nano

.
Nano's could definitely do well in our markets if only relations were a little better. TATA could even setup a plant in Pakistan.
mmmm well i cant agree with you on this for the reasons given earlier. :)

Yes did read your reasons. My reason for believing this is that in Pakistan even a Mehran cost above 7, and there is no alternative for that. JDMs are even more expensive with Mira costing as much as 1 million and even more. The only other options are wagon r and v2 Faw that too over a million. Ordinary people looking for cheap cars have no option but to buy used cars with reversed meters most of the time. So If NANO is introduced in the market and TATA can make sure that it costs less than Mehran and spare parts don't become an issue, I don't see why can't it not do good in Pakistan. The only hurdle in all of this are India Pakistan relations.

OK well this is a good enough reason as well :) A nice counter argument i would say sir. :)

I just think that people are not in position to keep two cars, one as city car and other for family travel. Mehran, mira and wagon r all serve the dual purpose but Nano won’t be able to do so, not with that efficiency at least so!!
But yes, u guess people are so fed up with Mehran they will go for any alternative even if it proves to be a wrong decision later on.

I have spent quite some time in car business, so you can say I am some what experienced in the field but nowhere an expert.
Coming to your argument of people not able to afford two cars, I absolutely agree however most small families, a husband wife maybe a kid have an excellent opportunity. People like them need a roof over them while they move from one point to another or a job during hot summers or cold winters. Its still better than a bike that offers no protection and more so when you are traveling with a companion. Plus let's not forget that even bikes are crossing the 100K mark and some like Yamaha or Suzuki costing near 150K. A low budget option with a roof should do well in a market segment like ours where there are no options belove 7 for Mehran or a used car who God knows how it was driven. A new car in the same budget as an old one is certainly preferable.

As said, your points do carry weight and form for an impressive counter argument :) Look at it this way and Nano seem to have a good chance. Furthermore as i said, people are so fed up of mehran they would just opt for any other half good options.

Suzuki Wagon r cost 4.3 - 5.3 lacs on road in India including all taxes and fees. Suzuki is seriously taking Pakistanis for a ride.

Not just Suzuki, Honda and Toyota as well. They have a monopoly in Pakistan not to let another vendor in the market and government is involved in this scam hands down. You guys are lucky. You really have way more options not just in cars but also in 2wheels.

.

They already assemble trucks and buses in Pakistan with Afzal motors. Now they are going to establish an assembly plant for cars.

INR 5 lacs is around PKR 7.8 lacs so the price difference isn't that huge.

Very difficult for Chinese car makers to penetrate market because people prefer japenses cars still no 1 even after decades because of quality

Surely we have more options here in India, march this year I bought a Suzuki Swift VXI variant in my city and on road with taxes it cost me 6.25 Lacs INR.
Whether taxes or not but I can surely see that taxes and duties are very high in Pakistan and being a mid sized market local manufacturing is not in a very good shape. Most of the vital parts are imported that's why they are that expensive.

Screw the domestic Pakistani car market, selling crap for such high prices. I am ok with my Charade lol :dance3:

you will realize that India is not in that list because it is not a well renowned car manufacturer. Japanese and Germans are right on top followed by Americans and the French with the Koreans catching up. This is the exact order i think new manufacturers will have a chance/priority. Indians are not at that level in automobile industry.

Both Tata & Mahindra have made good progress in markets like South Africa, SE Asia
, Australia & Eastern Europe with their lower end SUVs, pick up trucks & some hatchbacks/sedans.

In case of commercial vehicles Tata is world's fourth largest or something
