J-31 possibly being tested & evaluated in Pakistan

Not an aviation expert, but have kept a keen eyes on the aviation development. just want to point out that if we look at J31 in context, it is the 5th 5th gen fighter in the world in flying condition, which is a tremendous state for a aviation project. One can stay hesitant about its drawbacks, which was mostly speculated from the fact that it has not been officially endorsed. The fact that is in flying condition should not be understated, and is better than anything on the paper.

Participating J31 project will save at least 10 years’ time (to put it conservatively) in ground work and provide you with insights and technology on a 5th gen aircraft. It will give PAF a huge head start comparing to most countries in terms of air capability as they stay undecided.

FC-31 is not the one which lost the competition to J20.

The technical drawbacks of the FC-31 is too great to fix, unless next generation engines can be found. Given that this latter is unrealistic, the whole FC-31 project falls on its face.

With a WS-13 / RD-93 class engine, or with only marginally better engines, the FC-31 cannot hope to get any reasonable performance. This is why it would be foolish to invest in the design, as long as this engine issue is not fixed, and PLAAF does not invest.

A very different airframe needs to be designed if engines cannot be significantly improved upon. A lower drag design that compromises stealth.

Basically, I feel that SAC would have been better off had it designed an "arsenal plane" or a FLANKER replacement rather than tried to build a neither-this-nor-that kind of aircraft.

If you can’t fix the engine issue on the J-31, how do you plan to fix it on a new design?

Hi,

The engine issue is not a problem---.

With the J20 becoming operationa---china has done something different that other aircraft manufacturers have---.

With every flight---the EW package of the aircraft is being tested and getting mature---.

For other aircraft manufacturers they develop the aircraft around the engine---with a modular design---you do not need to do that---.

If you stop the manufacture of aircraft just because you do not have the right engine---is it acceptable to you that the EW package would not be developed either---.

I mean to say---the progress gets shafted at both the ends---.

F14 Tomcat is a great example here---even the F18---both started with sort of under powered engines---.

This is why it is important to understand some basic principles of aerodynamics. To dumb it down - aircraft design has to match the engine power. The designers have to figure out what kind of drag is acceptable. When you begin to study aerodynamics, you learn how a design can be high drag, what kind of drags there are, what are the operational requirements.

Perhaps an example will help - a truck with a v-8 engine may be under-powered. The same V-8 engine in a Mazda Miata will get you a pocket rocket.

how do you know, its a dual engine or single engine :o: and its shape whether is Canard delta wing, or tailed cropped delta wing @Army research
Dual engine, integrated optics ( like on f35)
Can't really disclose how I know but in case your wondering it's not from a Facebook group rather from some one actually working on the project
Don't wanna believe I can't make you,
Kudos

Is the illustration in the plaque of any substance?

It really looks like the same design concept as the Airbus FCAS.

Hi,

Your pilots main concern is to learn the electronics---the screen that he is looking at in front of him and learn to get the best usage out of the machine---.

He is going to be so engrossed in it for the coming years that .1---.2 % lack of power is not going to effect his performance a tiny bit---.

If there is use of lighter material on the aircraft---which means that the aircraft has more power now---.

For air combat role---the number of missiles is not going to change---it will stay the same as before---the amount of fuel during engagement would stay the same---so a lighter aircraft is a faster aircraft---.

What is more important in close combat is instant power---instant acceleration---. How does the RD93 handle that----that is a more important question---.

i think FC 31V2 will be inducted by PLA navy for sure.

and said airforce is also interested in it.

I understand your point. It could be underpowered (I would say it is relative) but I am not sure it is a showstopper. If we look at another (reasonablely) successful 5th gen project in F35, it has been criticized for a underpowered single engine since the project started but it doesn’t go to the point that one would discard the design.

Another consideration I suppose is that the choice of engine is as much a technical decision as a economical decision. Having a more powerful engine is certainly great but could increase the cost dramatically, and it could become a more severe threat to the feasibility of the proJect in the era where a 5th gen fighter plane can cost 100m+ a piece easily. Any industry project like this is a balanced one among many competing elements. Just my 2 cents.

french fighters are all under powered, but they all still top notch.

OK bro , you're right:tup:, no hard feeling @Army research  can give me hint about what should it be look like, CROPPED TAIL DELTA WING DESIGN LIKE FC-31 OR DELTA CANARD DELTA WING DESIGN LIKE J-20 @Army research
