J-31 for Turkish Airforce

Ok guys frankly speaking as long as we have our own TF-X project j 31 has simply no point! so far no one has came with any solid argument which explains why we should pick a chinese fighter over TF-X. Lets put it in this way What chinese can offer to us that we do not have or we will not have!? I will pick a joit venture with R&R to any russian or chinese engnie or Aselsan AESA over chinese one any day!

Oh, TF-X? Is that eatable? Where is it? Oh you meant that air-superiority fighter jet program in Turkey, which will start production in 2035 if everythings go smooth?

Airforce want's stealth multirole fighter jet to replace F-4, there is only F35 and J-31 on earth as flying multirole fighter jets. TF-X is not desinging as a multirole, but air superiority, which will replace F-16s if everthings go with plans. We gotta get one GAP filling solution until 2035-2040 in order to keep airforce competing with other regional powers in order to keep the balance up.

ok you started it than f35 has no point either..

we do not talk about replacing tfx or hürjet its about a replacement for f35 but with you logic we do not need f35

ok simple Best scenario is having F-35 A & B and TF-X in our inventory. if F-35 is out! it has no meaningful alternative other than TF-X. ''Multirole'' was and still is a candy coated way of saying ''affordable''! again a very simple example lets say for killing a mountain rat either you can build and use a drone or a fighter jet, the first one is affordable and other one is not! However job is done in both cases! dont know what is your fascination with ''FC -31'' (an export varient) I looks like F-35? thats it! or Chineses are saying that there is only F35 and J-31 on earth as flying multirole stealth fighter jet in their sells brochure?all the countries should be waiting in the line! again simple What matters is what is under the hood! therefore, as I stated earlier I will pick a joit venture with R&R to any russian or chinese engnie or Aselsan AESA, national avionics and national electro-optics over chinese ones any day! We know a few things about F-35 so please come up with some hard data, what you know aout FC-31 ! Production date of TF-X 2035-40... ok?! do you thing how long does it take for us to have substanial number of FC-31! ıf F-35 is out than sure we need stop gap mesures untill TF-X arrives but just a few squadrons of western 4++

We haven't spent that much on F35 as far as I recall (I remember reading less than 1 billion USD or so), and anything below 2 billion USD is considered little.

Given how our politicians are bluffing and lying I think they're hoping for MMU for Altay, R&R for TF-X. We all know that their attitude piss us all off because we take great pride in our own defense industry growth, and hearing the politicians go arse licking like that just hit us all in the wrong spots.

I think Atak 129 is the best the politicians could provide, and we should be grateful for having true patriotic companies create awesome stuff like Bayraktar. I really F'ing hope TEI comes out and says "that bird up there flying at mach 2 is using our own engine". I don't care if it's stealth or not, having the engine is most important factor. Both for Altay, Atak, UAV and TF-X.

I think European Typhoon is our stopgap solution, or an the swedish Gripen.

I'm a fan of fighters in general, so it'd be a shame for anything to possibly cut into TF-X development/budget. The biggest stumbling block for the TF-X imo is Turkish insistence on their own engines. Its completely understandable mind you, the holy grail of every nation w/ aeronautic ambitions, but its made things so difficult. Rolls Royce will never give up their "crown jewels", engine IP, no matter how much Turkey demands it. And real design work can't even start until engine selection.

Would Turkey be willing to buy off-the-shelf? That way they can get the ball rolling on TF-X, keep their top minds busy and gaining know-how, and in that time slow-burn work on indigenous engines, which can take decades.
I think we all saw what happens when you depend on foreigners for most critical components like engine in projects of Altay tank and Atak helicopter projects; they just did and will plug the project off at their own discretion. Turkey has to secure those critical components; otherwise these critical components like "engine" will be used as "the sword of Democles" hovering over our defense export contracts and production contracts.

Yeah I can see your pt, and Turkey's geopolitical situation is a bit complicated to say the least

There is some chance that U.S.A will ban F35 spare parts if you have same government & erdogan policies for another 10 years, you need other fifth gen platform. Yes j31 seems more practical & suitable choice. And this is best time for decision .

Will they make the same fault as they did with the patriot systems??

This is a very good Question and Discussion. but the Major problem here would be , As long as Turkey is a Nato country and is deeply routed in the western Camp. Chinese and Russians would only give them shields instead of swords. S-400 being a perfect example of a shield weapon. Sword or offensive A class weapons from Russia or China to a western Block country would have Trimed down Avionics and things they wouldn't want opposite side to know. like it was the case with FC-1 , J-10B , the chinese frigates and right now Type 99A . Chinese even don't give top notch stuff to pakistan yet. those tech are way too valuebale . so i have a huge doubt that China or AVIC would clear Shenyang J-31 Stealth Fighter to be cleared to a western Country. atleast sensitive components would be replaced. that's my opinion as i have Observed Over the years with Pakistan China Deals. they only clear sensitive tech when assurances are given.
