Hotan AB houses a variety of other platforms as well.

The neighbouring Kashghar AB has H-6 bombers deployed along with other platforms.

If IAF thinks its five Rafales will tilt the balance they need to rethink twice. China will not relent and if need be enhance the escalation ladder until Indians come to their senses.

That's too much. A single J-20 could solo the entire Indian airforce, two is just too many.

The real question is whether it is worth the effort, lives and resources to fight a major war over a few dozen square kilometers in the middle of the Himalayas. India is China's sixth largest trading partner, and will probably be top three in a decade. If not, then we're going to have these minor skirmishes every few years as a norm. I don't see either side making any major concessions.

J-20 is a dedicated air superiority fighter ... its foremost goals are not to attack AWACS/refueling aircraft nor strike targets on the ground but to shoot down IAF fighter aircraft.

Why would you not use your best asset to go after the force multiplers?? That is what an AWACs is, it is worth more than a handful of fighters...

I think the 400 km PL-21, carried by the J-16, would be a better AWAC killer than the dedicated A2A PL-15 missile. It is hard to go for AWACS/refueling tankers when you haven't even taken care of the fighters.

Although J-20 is a dedicated air superiority fighter, I remember reading way back when the plane was designed in such a way to give priority to range and speed.

Attributes needed in the Pacific theater against US forces primarily against force multipliers such as AWACS and re-fuelers etc.

I always viewed the jet as a long range interceptor
