BMW's symbol is made of blue and white quadrants, which represent a rotating propeller, as BMW was initially an aircraft engine manufacturing company.

A little correction.

BMW's symbol is inherited from the old flag of Bavaria.
 
I can understand where the blue+white color comes from, but the rotating quadrants indicate a propeller.

When the BMW logo was first created, it was prohibited by the Trademark Act to feature ‘national coats of arms or other symbols of national sovereignty’ in a trademark. This led the BMW marketers to come up with a solution of ‘incorrectly configuring the color elements in the BMW logo from a heraldic perspective’, while also keeping its relationship with Bavaria evident.
