I think the Marines should be released, it looks like they made a genuine mistake. I don't think it was done by purpose.

It is not a mistake, as per International law..

The civilian ships are not allowed to keep weapons with them.(They can in Arabian sea coz of pirates, but if they go thru Indian waters, they should not, inform the coast guard about the weapons.)

Any pirates attack, first they should inform the coast guard even before firing in self defense.

As per Indian law, a foreign army guy killing Indian in India is an act of war.

There is no compromise in criminal law in India, it is not the victim v/s the guilty, it is the state v/s the guilty in criminal offences.

Italians gonna be inside the jail for quite long time for sure.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday sought the Italian government's stand on a plea for release of its vessel Enrica Lexie whose two guards allegedly had shot dead two Indian fishermen, Jalastine and Binki, in February.

A bench of justices RM Lodha and HL Gokhale reserved its order on vessel's owner Dolphin Tankers' plea for release of the ship for 10.30am tomorrow, by which time the Italian government too was asked to file its reply.

Earlier during the two-hour-long argument, the apex court questioned the Kerala government as to why it did not oppose the compromise reached between the families of the deceased fishermen and the Italian vessel's owners, who reportedly paid Rs one crore to each victim's family.

Referring to the compromise, the apex court bench said, "This is a challenge to the Indian judicial system, this is impermissible. It is most unfortunate."

The apex court also indicated that it was not in favour of detaining the vessel crew and the two naval guards unless their presence was required by the investigating authorities.

The bench made it clear that not only the citizens of this country but even foreign nationals, present in the country are entitled to the protection as per Article 21 which grants right to life and liberty to everyone in India.

Earlier on April 23, the court had sought the response of the Centre and the Kerala government on Italian government's plea to quash the criminal cases against its two merchant navy personnel.

The court is also hearing a petition challenging the seizure of Italian vessel Enrica Lexie by the Indian authorities after two of its onboard marines allegedly gunned down two Indian fishermen on February 15.

The special leave petition was filed by Enrica's owners, Dolphin Tankers questioning the Kerala high court's order staying the release of the vessel.

Pakistani women who received 'blood money' killed

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Police say the widow and mother-in-law of one of two Pakistani men shot and killed by a CIA contractor last year have been murdered in the eastern city of Lahore.

It appears Monday's killings may have been related to the large amount of "blood money" Zohra Haider received to pardon her husband's killer, Raymond Davis.

Police officer Athar Waheed says Haider's father, Shahzad Butt, is suspected of killing her and her mother, Nabeela Bibi.

Waheed says Haider wanted to remarry and was supported by her mother. But her father opposed the move, possibly because she would take her fortune with her.

Butt allegedly shot and killed his wife and daughter after an argument over the issue.

Waheed said the shooter escaped.
