It was a mistake-BNP leaders say party shifting from anti-India stance

If you say that leverage doesn't matter in international politics then either you are Naive or you don't want to answer my question. Things are not the same as last 40 years. Transit has already started. Rolling it back will have huge repercussions. Knowing Indian politicians the punishment will be very harsh. The question is what stick does Bangladesh have to beat India with to prevent this. This is a simple question I am asking. If you don't have any stick then please say so. Its nothing to be ashamed of.

1.Two-third of India has been delivering the thousand cuts to the one-third India that the Brahmonic Delhi oligarchs rule over. GOI has writ over only the central Hindu-Hindi belt. India is really fragile from inside. All her neighbors, fed up of her empty boasting, are waiting with long sticks to deliver their strike.

2. As for us, we are waiting with the famous Bengal bamboos to retrieve the territory that the English Co had taken from our last Muslim sovereign and conveniently gifted away to Hindu India.

Why Bangladesh isn't using this unused funds for Padma Bridge projects but looking for other donors.

$7 billions looks like a long term investment spanning several decades with the growing needs of both India and Bangladesh.

No initial investment for the next decade to provide full scale transit.

Transit to spin $44m a year
Bangladesh would require $7.0 billion over the next decade to develop its transport system, including roads, rails and waterways, for transit, he added.

Those funds were meant for other projects.

Hope AL would also learn from Ms Khalida Zia & shift from her anti Pakistan stance Bangladeshi peoples need proBangladesh leaders...

If you could've, you would've.

There is no last word in politics and also when it is the relationship between two countries. BNP will do whatever is best for the country when it is in power. A promise given by an opposition leader while eating dinner or lunch is meaningless unless it is agreed upon on paper and signed by the parties. In case of india, it does not even respect its own official signature it is such a vulture country.

BNP, in power, can always deny a transit because BD infrastructure is not suitable for that. India should cough up $7 billion or more for a lumpsum construction money and should agree to pay $1billion every year for maintenance before AL or BNP can agree to a transit. Thanks for the free lunches and dinners for BKZ in India, but there will be no free transit for India that the Indians can rest assured about. In essence, it is NO transit.

Transit is coming. You need it. There is only one way for BD to prosper - by transit and trade with India. Donot think you will be able to take India for a ride here.

Export to India contributes less then 2% for Bangladesh. It is so nagligible that it can be discarded. In other words Bangladesh is progressing without India. Transit is only possible if India gets ready to pay the right amount for it.

India no longer relies on 1 party in Bangladesh: Moudud

India no longer relies on 1 party in Bangladesh: Moudud

Moudud Ahmed
UNB, Dhaka
BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed on Friday said India does not rely anymore on a single party in Bangladesh to maintain good relations with its neighbour.

“There was a gap in the past between us (BNP and Congress) for the policy of previous Congress governments which had wanted to rely on a single party in Bangladesh instead of trusting people. Now their policy is changing. India no longer wants to depend on a particular party,” he said.

Moudud was addressing a roundtable meeting organised by Swadesh Manch, a pro-BNP civil platform, at the Jatiya Press Club.

He pointed out that the change in the attitude of the Congress towards Bangladesh was first visible when Indian President Pranab Mukherjee during his last visit to the country as a foreign minister of the Congress-led government met opposition leader Khaleda Zia and invited her to visit India.

Now, he said, they have realised that to maintain good relations with the people of the neighbouring country, they do not have to depend on a single political party. “They’ve come one step forward towards us (BNP) and we’ve also moved one step forward…”

“BNP wants to protect the national interest through maintaining good relations with them (India),” Moudud said, adding that in today’s world nothing can be achieved with a ‘warlike’ attitude with a neighbour.

“The only way is to talk to each other and build a relation of faith and confidence…I hope the change in the Indian policy will improve the Bangladesh-India relations, and will bring about far-reaching results to people,” he said.

About various disputes between Bangladesh-India, including the water sharing of the common rivers and Tipaimukh Dam, Moudud said, “We’ve major challenges of resolving the issues with India. Ensuring water rights is our dire need. India is building 33 small and 12 mega dams on the upstream of the 54 common rivers flowing across the two countries. More worrying is they’re also implementing a mega river linking project on the upstream.”

“Construction of Tipai dam and the water sharing of the Teesta river involves the existence of Bangladesh. We need to resolve these with the neighbour, but through maintaining a good relation at the same time,” he said.

Moudud also slammed the ministers of the Awami League government for criticising Khaleda’s ‘successful’ visits to China and India. “They’ve failed to show their wisdom. Why are you feeling so nervous,” he questioned.

Doesn't India account for over 10% of BD's imports?! A high handed attitude with a large partner is not advisable.

Out of total export of USD 24.3 b, about USD 19 b (80 % approx) is garment export. bangladesh is 2nd biggest exported of garmnets after china. Europe and the United States account for almost 70 per cent of Bangladesh’s garment exports.
Even Bangladesh export to china is only less than 1 B

That means Bangladesh is contributing more to India then the other way around.

Lets not get stupid here. You can do better than that.

India is an energy starved nation. We need to import massive amounts of oil because we need it. Does that mean that the oil suppliers need us more than we need them?!?

Stupidity aside, the market is an equal platform allowing for price realization through the forces of demand and supply. BD imports because they need the wares, India exports because we need the market and vice versa. No need to add a jingoistic perspective to plain vanilla facts.

To add to it - India's exports to BD stand at about USD 3 billion. India's total exports are pegged at USD 300 billion.

Even if one were to go by your twisted logic - that BD helps India more - i'm sure that a mere 1% share of exports would render BD useless, in India's scheme of things.

On topic we can say- Agar subhe ka bhula shaam ko wapas aa jaye to use bhula nahin kehta...

India is literally dying/begging to get transit/connectivity, etc. But she won't get it from BKZ without first behaving as an honorable state. We have endless problems created by a rogue state called India. She mist become decent. Btw, BKZ's definition of transit is pretty different from corridor - and this is highly conditional.

Another one of his famous Quote,"Never make friends with people who are above or below you in status. Such friendships will never give you any happiness." ;)

nice quote tell it 2 ur dalits
