Chinese leaders are suspicious of the whole U.S. notion of a hotline. They see it as an American channel for talking their way out of blowback for a U.S. provocation.


Shooting a balloon and then using hotline, kinda give credibility to above Chinese notion. Why was he even using a hotline for this, it should be reserved for something urgent and important.

I would argue the other way around.

If this is really a Chinese Weather Balloon (Again, with enough solar panel to power a multi-CPU server, without external measure tool and flying at 60,000 ft which is above most weather pattern) then they wouldn't use the hotline but proper political procedure, ie thru press conference, if the US uses the hotline, it means they see that as a security problem, not a civil problem. suggesting that was indeed a spy balloon.

Exactly, the Chinese side didnt know their balloon wandered into US airspace until US side notified China, US gov was talking to the Chinese side the whole time this shit show is putting up by US domestically. What is there anymore the defence hotline to be used to talk to Chinese defence minister on this weather balloon matter other than US wants to use this incident as an excuse to reestablish the contacts between the top military heads of the two countries that was cut off during Pelosi visit to Taiwan last year, and China has none of this US desire. Besides, if US is really sincere about solving tha balloon problem, it should had used the hotline to talk to the Chinese side before it shot down the balloon, not after, anyone not an idiot can see the logic.

Well, then tell me one fact that you can check on the meteorological condition other than current flow at 60,000 feet? EVERY weather pattern happened between 35-40,000 ft, even the strongest of the strongest storm seldom happened over 55,000 ft. At 60,000 ft, there are no meteorological conditions that can go that far other than stratospheric condition, if that is what China want to know, they will need to send the balloon over 100,000 ft, not 60,000 ft.

But hey, that does not mean you can't send a weather balloon at 60,000 that flew over almost all weather conditions on earth. I mean, if you buy that, I have a bridge to sell you.
