A three-day conference on Salafism began in Istanbul Friday, where leading academics and experts debated the merits and demerits of the conservative movement in the modern world.

Founding President and Sociology Professor in Ibn Khaldun University Recep Senturk told the conference Salafism as it appears in modern times "is a strategy developed to destroy Islam".

"Those who want to wipe out Islamic civilization have created today's Salafism," Senturk said.

The conference has been organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Research and Education (ISAR) -- a research center established to train Muslim scholars specializing in Islamic sciences and various disciplines.

The professor said present day Salafism "degrades Islam into a book alone [Quran]".

The belief that "Quran is enough for everything" would mean to ignore all the richness and accumulation of Islamic civilization, he said.

"Civilization is a social system and a moral order," Senturk said.

"Islam is a civilization based on Quran and Hadith [Prophet Mohammad's sayings and deeds] - not a matn/nass [text] alone."

Experts discussed how Salafism and "Textual Islamism” attempt to understand Islam only from Quranic text and Hadith; it also analyzed how it dismisses the different schools of thoughts and fiqh in the religion as legitimate means of understanding and interpreting Islamic sources and properly practicing ones faith.

Senturk said modern-day Salafism "calls to eliminate Islamic civilization".

"They mean 'Let's turn to matn/nass [text of Quran], and destroy the rest -- our Islamic institutions, philosophy, Islamic law, art, and architecture."

He called for the need to combine religion, science and knowledge to find solutions to today's problems."

I agree. Experience first hand, they're a different breed.
"Wahhabi clerics are easily provoked upon hearing that other Muslims may entertain the idea of restoring the Muslim caliphate. They strongly believe that Muslims other than themselves are godless and unqualified to claim the honor of reviving the caliphate, a multi-ethnic transnational empire with Sharia and the bonds of faith as the basis of government.

As they consider themselves to represent the only true and pure Islam, they endorse the view that if such a caliphate is to return, they should take the lead in shaping its creed and outlook. They are therefore determined to denounce any contemporary Muslim who may entertain the idea that one day all Muslims will be united under the umbrella of a single polity. If such a unification were ever possible, they themselves should be the only active agents in its birth, regardless of how remote or unrealistic this possibility might be."

Pay attention to US support for Saudi Arabia.

I would request the Pakistanis here not to engage in such threads.

These are just meant for infowars and are root cause of problems in the Middle East much like rest of the world.

Religious intolerance has failed in Pakistan and these people are just desperate war mongers.

Thank you.

What is your offer then?

.
What is your offer then?

No religious discussion as per forum rules.

It's not an offer you can say No to.

If you put religion above your state it's not my problem that your own countries cannot provide you the legal basis for.

If anyone claiming anything than we are claiming that whole religion LEGALLY.

Lol.

Try beating that as any kind of a religious fanatic.

I am just teasing you man. Why make a religious thread on an internet forum?

Does your religion needs defending?

Its not that simple you cannot combine religion ,you cannot modify religion.
What you can do , is reject obsolete interpretations and adopt more relevant interpretations. But the problem is traditionalism people tend to accept the thing which their forefathers or family mullah tells them.
First step is to prepare the minds of people to accept change or tolerate it if they dont accept it.

Unfortunately Pakistanis majority strictly follow their own sect without thinking merits and demerits of it.
Criminals murderers are called Ghazis and Shaheeds.

Dont know the situation in turkey.

.
Nobody is discussing a hadith or something here but the current problems within Islamic world, caused by an ideology (not religion) most terrorist organizations follow. I don't know what's bothering you about it.

The problems are political not ideological.

Salafis I have met tend to have a "holier than thou" attitude. And generally see other Muslims as ignorant. I remember when their ideology came to the UK some 20 years ago.

They went round knocking on people's doors and sucked in alot of the young generation of the time. The rest as they say is history.

It's why we have 2 Eids here in the UK sometimes, Salafis do Eid only on the same day as Saudi. The rest go by traditional moonsighting or nearest Muslim country.

Doesn't mean we should be at each others throats but we have responsibility to educate the youth.

Pakistanis do not follow their own "sect" they follow the Hanafi Madhab for the most part, keep your dirty salafists lies to yourselves.

If you lived in a small town, village or anywhere without internet you to would be following your local "mullah" and family. Salafis for the most part have the luxury of access to the internet so they can pick and choose there ideology from "I am only Muslim" salafism to extremist salafism.

And yes salafis are very good at calling suicide bombers and terrorists who blow up market places up in Pakistan, Somalia and Syria as "shaheeds" and "mujahideen" you describe yourselves very well.

He will never make sense to you or anyone with two or more functioning neurons. First and foremost he is a Salafi. Second, he used to be related to the Armed Forces (don't know how). So basically he is an X-Armed Wahabi, the kind the Forces no longer require (presently), basically an 'Obsolete Wahabi' :D

Furthermore, he's very smart. He just writes down enough, not much so that he stands out.

Try to make some sense next time.
