Why would the Satellite Circle the earth? why wouldn't it just travel straight to the Mars

PSLV does not provide enough velocity for direct insertion into the Mars transfer trajectory (delta V), so the spacecraft will encircle the earth with increasing perigee and gaining velocity and once sufficient delta v is achieved, it will embark on the long journey towards Mars.

No man made rocket is big and powerful enough to take payload to mars directly. So It's required to gain more velocity. It's like sling shoot the orbiter using earth gravitational force.
