An Israeli-made Heron unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) crashed in Turkey’s mountainous Mardin province, news agencies reported on Thursday.

The aircraft was on a routine reconnaissance flight five kilometers from the Ilisu Damn construction zone, near the village of Temelli.

Exact reason of the crash is unknown at this time, but authorities suspect hardware failure due to cold weather and high operating altitute.

Turkey had purchased 10 Heron UAVs from Israel for $183 million in a 2005 deal with a consortium of the Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Elbit Systems. Delivery of the Heron UAVs were somewhat controversial due to Israel’s long delay in meeting Turkish payload requirements and the growing rift between the two countries due to Israel’s deadly attack on a Turkish peace and humanitarian aid flotilla in the international waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

This constitutes Turkey’s second loss of a Heron system within a short timespan and raises serious questions in regards to its overall reliability.

I'm sure TRDEFENCE editors are beating themselves in sadness for not having been able to climb a couple mountains and take a picture of the actual wreckage just to impress you.

Are you upset that Israeli weapons are developing a reputation around the world for being unreliable tin cans or scrap metal?

.
Are you that opaque? THE PHOTO IS NOT OF THE MODEL THAT TURKS BOUGHT FROM ISRAEL.
Actually the reputation of Israeli hardware is appreciated worldwide, not the same can be said about Turkish hardware because there is practically none for the export... To the crash may be numerous precursory factors, yes systems time to time malfunction, aircraft crashes.

.
good this is the time to take that and give it to China...... then in few years we all have same UAV...........lol

No, you see i'm illustrating how a dumb israeli like you keep banging his head against the wall while persons like me stand and laugh at your repeated dumbness

Turks build ships, auto parts, and electrical machinery for export, I think. (Sometimes it is difficult to tell which items are Turkish in origin because they may be re-labelled from their country of origin. Germany does the same thing.)

.
I was referring to military hardware, not assembly factories of Toyota and such.

.
They are in a cold turkey now that they haven't killed massive civilians.

Am i the only one thinking we gave turkey our worst UAV`s hoping that they`d crash?

Turkey is making their own UAVs now. They are also expanding their military export market, something I was suprised about that why they hadn't started earlier. I like their Armored vehicles.
