Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba, also the chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee, will be on a four-day visit to Israel from Sunday as Tel Aviv is set to offer manufacturing of Spike hand held “fire and forget” anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) to India under Make in India.

This is the last Indian high-profile visitor to Israel before Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in Tel Aviv on July 5. Admiral Lanba will be in Israel till June 15.

Admiral Lanba visit comes after a Parliamentary delegation led by minister of state for agriculture and parliamentary affairs SS Ahluwalia went all over the Jewish nation in search of state of the art agricultural technologies.

Top government sources told Hindustan Times that Lanba will be visiting Haifa naval port along with interactions with Army and Air Force chiefs of Israel. His visit will be to understand regional security without delving into hardware acquisition.

However, it is now clear that Israel wants to participate in the Make in India initiative with offer to making Spike ATGM.

Even though the Modi government wants to focus on ties with Israel beyond defence, India is looking towards making medium altitude long endurance armed Heron TP unmanned aerial vehicle under Make in India.

Why can't India make simple anti tank missiles in house? The great Suppa Powaa who is ahead of China and NASA in space, Can't build a simple missile? :omghaha:

Great stupid logic. LOL

If I buy Biryani from restaurant, does that mean I can't make that in my kitchen ?? :p:

The same thing applies here Mr. Genius. Ever heard of the NAG ??

We have enough money and much more to make some in house and buy it from outside if we wish. :)

Wrong comparision. We are not taking food. India has very very bad histrory making simple weapons. Even guns and bullets are imports from Russia and Israel. India can't do anything right. This is hard fact.

When is India going to issue an RFI for 1 billion toilets from forign menufatrue with 100% TOT ?:omghaha::omghaha::omghaha:That would be mother of all deals.:omghaha::omghaha::omghaha:

I am saying the truth which has been said by Indian Intelligence Agencies .

We ordered 10000+ 9M113 from Russia in 2012, Hellfire from US and Saab won for Next generation Light Anti-tank Weapon System. Meanwhile there is indigenous Nag 3rd gen. fire-and-forget type missile to replace MILAN ATGMs.
India wants 8000+ Spike-ER so its better go for Make in India to avoid other 3rd seller like US or Russia.

I dont think Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba has anything to do with Anti Tank Missile

Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba, also the chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee

Navy chief now to head chiefs of staff committee

TNN | Dec 30, 2016, 04.31 AM IST

NEW DELHI: Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba took over the ceremonial baton of the chairman of chiefs of staff committee (CoSC) from outgoing IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on Thursday, even as the government fine-tunes higher defence management reforms that are likely to kick in from mid-2017 onwards.
Admiral Lanba will assume the "full responsibility" of the CoSC chairman from Saturday when Raha as well as Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag superannuate. Air Marshal B S Dhanoa and Lt General Bipin Rawat, in turn, will take over as the new IAF and Army chiefs on that day.
While the existing CoSC comprises the Army, Navy and IAF chiefs, with the senior-most of them acting as the "rotational" chairman till he retires, the government is now working to create the post of another four-star general as part of the proposed reforms. But it will take another six to seven months for the new post to take concrete shape, either as a chief of defence staff (CDS) or a permanent CoSC chairman on par with the three Service chiefs.
Eastern Army Command chief Lt General Praveen Bakshi, who has been superseded by Lt General Rawat for the top Army post, is not in the zone of consideration for the new post, as was earlier reported by TOI. While the exact role and powers of the new fourstar general are yet to be defined, he will primarily be responsible for tri-Service integrated planning, policy and procurement matters aimed at systematically building military capabilities in a holistic and cost-effective manner.
The government, of course, is also examining the creation of more integrated commands, especially in the field of space, cyber and special operations. India, as of now, has only two unified commands, the Andaman and Nicobar Command and the Strategic Forces Command to handle nuclear weapons. It was in 2001 that the L K Advani-led group of ministers' report on reforming the national security system had stressed the need for a CDS post to provide single-point military advice to the government, usher synergy among the three Services and manage the country's nuclear arsenal, among other things.
Several tri-Service structures, like the integrated defence staff and a defence intelligence agency, were later established. But the then NDA government as well as subsequent UPA-I and II governments kept the all-important CDS post in cold storage due to political-bureaucratic resistance towards appointing an "all powerful general" as well as turf wars among the three Services. The permanent CoSC chairman, a watered-down version of the CDS post, in turn, was recommended by the Naresh Chandra Taskforce in 2012. This, incidentally, was accepted by the three Services in 2013.
