Israel bans Norwegian doctor from Gaza for life

People forget to note that IF he is working so nobly as a humanitarian, then he should not be making political statements. If he is choosing to make political statements, then he cannot be allowed entry as a humanitarian. Talk about having it both ways!

He as a doctor and active participant in the conflict (albeit due to his function as a doctor) has every right (just like every other person) to have his own opinions regarding the conflict. Unlike most of us "chair viewers" he knows what he is talking about and has seen it all.

I am not sure if I understand you here brother? Are you for him getting banned simply because he has voiced factual criticism against Israel?

All I am saying is that he is granted entry as a humanitarian aid worker, and making political statements would be a violation of that status, from a legal point of view.

How does Saudi Arabia deal with potential hajis wanting to make political statements? That would be a similar issue as a violation of the conditions of entry.

Why does Israel even decide who can enter Gaza or not? It's not Israeli territory to begin with. Every humanitarian worker has their own opinions and he is not the only one that has voiced his opinions. He has just a reputation by now and the Israeli regime considers him damaging to Israel. Would Israel ban those humanitarian workers that praised Israel for their war crimes against Gaza this Summer? Can you even find 1 single humanitarian worker that does that? You can't.

Well, Shia's of all nationalities are protesting almost each year during hajj and umrah in Makkah. Plenty of videos available online. But this has nothing to do with the topic though and the situations are completely different.

Besides Israel is supposed to be the only true democracy in the ME. KSA is not a democracy and has never claimed to be that. Apples and oranges.

P.S: I did not elect my leaders (like the Israelis) just like the British people did not elect their monarchy. So I am innocent of any political move by KSA. In other words I have not sanctioned their actions. I can agree with them or not. That's another thing altogether.

Oh boy. The sold out desi farangi comes to the rescue of his masters. He is a doctor and was helping victims of Israeli aggression. I don't care about politics, he is allowed to have political views. Or are there double standards when it comes to Israel?

The barbaricism at its best!! Jews no doubt have crossed all lines of insanity and even left hitler far behind.

thought Israel was a secular nation... :tsk: Death to secularism when you want to compare it with a nation that at least openly claims it is Islamic and doesnt hide behind the secular banner...

BTW, if you havent done Hajj maybe you should...coz it is not just a ritual (Which you may have done) but supposed to make you humble and not go political!

Judaism is the official religion I believe. Definitely not theocratic but it isn't secular either.

Yes, that's correct. For instance while Arabic is a official language in Israel alongside Hebrew it's interesting that Islam is not a official religion alongside Judaism. Despite almost 20% of all Israelis being Muslim. It's a clear political move.

The answer to that question is logical. Israel was founded upon the Jewish identity (also as a homeland for Jews obviously) of which Judaism is the core element of that identity. The very basis. Since the day Israel got founded there has been a internal conflict between secular Jews and religious Jews. Most recently this conflict is seen in the area of compulsory military service where the Orthodox Jews are still exempt from military service. As of now that is but since the Orthodox Jews are growing in numbers the current Israeli regime is trying to change that law that Ben Gurion (if I recall) made to please the Orthodox Jews. As it is not foreseeable. The Orthodox Jews are supposed to be devoted to a religious life solely and most of them do not even recognize Israel as they believe that this can only happen when Messiah emerges. It's bound in Judaic beliefs.

So in a sense there is an element of theocracy in Israel. Albeit different than in for instance KSA.

Mads Gilbert has openly leftist-leanings. He is part of many leftist organisations here in Norway. It is one of the main reasons why he never criticizes Hamas terrorism but blames Israel all the time.

Saudi Arabia is not a democracy, fool, unlike Israel that "claims" to be the only democratic state in the ME!

@Norwegian will understand it. I wonder what Norwegian will make of excesses to defend Israeli behavior this time around? Usually it's the evil Palestinians (Arabs) that are doing everything wrong while Israelis are saints.
Since Gaza is under years long blockade by Israel and Gaza, due to Hamas terrorism, there are only two ways to enter Gaza; via Israel or Egypt. If Israel has banned him entry on security grounds, he can always enter via Egypt. Who is stopping him but usual Israel-bashing?

Oh there is a blog for everything! Lies? Yet reputable? @Norwegian is doing humanitarian work considered lies in any part of the world maybe Israel?
Mads Gilbert has been working in Gaza for the past 28 years. Its first time he has been denied entry via Israel on security grounds. Also its not true that he has been banned for life. Israeli Ambassador for Norway confirmed it here to Norwegian national channel NRK here:
Israels ambassadør: Gilbert er ikke utestengt på livstid - Nyheter, tv og radio fra hele verden - NRK.no

A major dispute in Israeli immigration policy is whether those with only a Jewish father and not a mother should be accepted. Orthodox Jews don't accept them as Jewish but Reform ones do. Also, many Orthodox Jews would accept even somebody who has converted to a different religion as long as they have Jewish blood on the maternal line but Israel currently forbids this.
