Islamabad on high alert

Officials: Pakistan on alert for possible attack - CNN.com

Islamabad (CNN) -- Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad is on red alert after officials received information in the form of an intelligence intercept of a likely attack on a high-value target, two senior Pakistani officials told CNN on Sunday.
Helicopters could be heard in the skies above Islamabad as Air Force and Navy commandos searched for suspected militants in the Margalla Hills that surround the city, the officials said.
Key military installations were under tight security.
Among the buildings being guarded are the headquarters for Pakistan's air force and navy, the officials said.
The officials, from the security and intelligence establishments, did not want to be named given the sensitivity of the information.

Why militants would be hiding in margalla hills as if islamabad is waziristan?, they know how to play the game in cities.

Why not now? What stops us from doing that?

I meant to stop this recent wave...

If any attack is planned for these few days, we can't do anything but defend.

For future times, we can do an operation, but Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan are too busy playing peace peace.

Some helicopter activity over Isl...especially the AHQ, NHQ side.

Faisal Mosque's security also beefed up, I've seen it being mentioned quite a bit.

One simple question. Is this high alert has any connection with terror attack on Indian consulate in Afghanistan?
I think Pakistani force do not lack spirit but professionalism to avert this kind of attack.
However in long run, the failure to contain attacks like Kamra, DI jail will affect the moral of arm forces of Pakistan. Pakistan should do something on urgent basis to inject professionalism in their armed forces. I think Pakistan forces pays the price of incompetency of ISI which has failed to provide reliable intelligence input on most of the time.

A FLIR helo was used yesterday in the search op at Margalla Hills...SSG(N) and SSW also involved, at least in the areas adjoining AHQ and NHQ. Heavy police presence as well.

I reckon there is some really solid intel regarding presence of terrorists in Margalla Hills or thereabouts. Islamabad airport closure also suggests so.

Alot of high profile buildings in the areas adjoining Margalla Hills. Margalla Road is the centre of attention right now. There was a case of 2 miscreants firing at a police checkpost on Margalla Road and fleeing a couple of days back as well.

According to multiple media reports, International intelligence has identified threats in Pakistan and in the region. These are the reasons authorities have taken action to protect lives, and property all over Pakistan, and especially in Islamabad. It is always great to preempt the enemy and take action to avert any death and destruction. International cooperation and sharing of intelligence helps save lives. It also sends a clear message to the enemy that we are not sleeping and remain a step ahead of you. These enemies of peace are trying really hard to establish themselves once again via sectarian violence, and attacks on jails to free criminals who would join their ranks. This common enemy is always conspiring to hurt the common man, but together we will always defeat them. There is no question about it!

Everyone has different opinion, different solution, most of these have been worked out and we've got nowhere closer to the solution.

As a serving officer (wouldn't mention the rank here) says 'Sir ye humari jung nahi hai, tou hum kaise jeetain?' ('Sir, this isn't even our our so how would we win?')

Very well said,Indeed it was never our war but an attempt to weaken us by United states by dragging us in so called Afghan war.Indeed,it is well planned, well executed, and I have no doubt about it.
This idea, that American's departure will create an opportunity for us to ease and solve this regional issue is acceptable to some extent, but we should also keep this point in our mind that US has not wasted her time in Afghanistan for so long, before they will leave, they will make sure to plant/install and empower anti-Pakistan elements which will be very challenging against us.Thus,we have to prepare proper plans for that.

If you would know the Area nad the people, u would not feel the same way .. Even the most proffesional armies failed against them .. Trust me there is a huge difference between moist and taliban ..India has never faced such terrorism .. and with the open border btw india pakistan , they can come and go easily... Weapons supply is unlimited .

what can ISI do ???when there is 365 + attacks every years ..they have provided information of many aatcaks ..but i think the root problem is law is protecting the terrorist .they help catch militants but the get realised in courts ..if they dont, no one hangs them even if they got death planety. This motivates the terrorist.

btw it has nothng to do with india embassy attack ..may be the talibans dont like the whats happening in kashmir

Taliban threat: Islamabad security ramped up

ISLAMABAD: Intelligence agencies in Pakistan have warned that extremists seem to have planned attacks on high-profile Pakistani targets. These targets include the parliament and headquarters of Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force. Authorities are taking all possible measures in the backdrop of information regarding potential attacks.

The intelligence wing of the military recently intercepted a message between two commanders of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. The message, from a Taliban commander namely Waleed bin Talib, read “we have achieved some of our objectives in the attack on DI Khan jail, but for achieving bigger objectives we need to take action where the ‘big bosses’ sit”.

Sources in the interior ministry said that ‘big houses’ of Islamabad were mentioned in this communication and it was said that teaching a lesson to those who meet in these houses was essential. Sources said that by ‘big houses’ they meant the parliament and navy and air force headquarters.

The extremists had adopted a similar plan of action in the DI Khan jail attack about which the intelligence agencies had warned in advance. Their reports had said that initially unrest will be created in jails before the attacks. The reports added that once jail authorities will get busy using all resources to handle the unrest within, the jail will be raided to take advantage of the weakened security arrangements.

Eyewitnesses said that when extremists raided the jail, there was no report of any unrest inside.

Waleed bin Talib’s message

Security in Islamabad has been put on high alert after Talib’s message was intercepted. The police and the security agencies are carrying out search operations in the Margalla hills. The interior ministry has directed the Islamabad police and administration to keep a close watch on the facilitators of the extremists as well. According to Superintendent Police Sadar Circle Jamil Hashmi, the police was already deployed at Margala hills but now police commandos and the security forces have also been deployed.

Security arrangements have been beefed up at Benazir International Airport and no vehicle is allowed to enter airport premises from 11 pm to 6 am.

It would be good if it happens with all the politicians inside the parliament and 0 survivors from them.

The only good thing that they would have done in their life.

The alert will be there for few days, what happens after?

Thus far we are reacting to Taliban threat but doing nothing be proactive and eliminating it. It appears that our political leadership is in state of paralysis.

Here is a case where anti-state elements are free to choose their target and damage the State of Pakistan at will. Even yesterday an Army Colonel, Captain and SSP were killed in a terrorist attack in Chilas. But until now we don’t even have a national strategy to combat this menace.

It appears that when it comes to love of Pakistan State and support of Taliban, Pakistan always loses out.
