I do not know well about economies. But didn't East Bengal come from far behind to match West Bengal in terms of GDP and Per capita post 1971?

Even when India is voting for BJP, West Bengal repeatedly chose not to do so which only means they have a different political outlook.

I know there is no reason to alter current political allegiance. I was talking about future..Who knows. We are evolving quick and nationalism may lose grip one day.
Even I am a globalist and I gave zero importance to " Man made " boundaries. I defend Bangladesh only because I am sworn to do so. I am born and fed here.

I am not talking about difference in gdp, rather opportunity that a single market gives... to go out of the union will mean loss to wb..
the fact that bd came from behind and matched wb is as much due to economic progress of bd as due to long stagnation of wb(post communists gaining power).. being part of bd wont miraculously change their fortune.

The People of West bengal has always identified themselves as bengali first and if given opportunity i am more than sure that they will unite with their brothers across the artificial border.

The true and historic border of West bengal is on western side not eastern and the present border is against the history of this region.

the reason why BD separated was not because it was culturally different. but because they chose a different political route (2 nation theory based on Muslim Majority).
The other nation that believed everyone can live together was India.
If people in BD now believe that they can live together with Hindus and others, then there is no need for a separate BD

You seem to have no idea about some basic economics.

West Bengal state public gross debt is around 45 billion on a GSDP of 130 billion for corresponding year (2015 - 16).

Thats a debt-GDP ratio of around 35%. Thats actually below the overall Indian public debt of around 65%.

The service rate lies around 4% of debt on average in India (it amounts to around 2 - 2.5% of total GDP each year).

A country that is barely consuming anything in any appreciable amount should not call others "basket cases"...especially if it does not understand basic economics.

There were substantial reason behind the separation. If you look deep in the history of Bengal specially from 1905 to the events that led to the Establishment of Dhaka university, you will probably understand why Bangali Muslims struggled for a separate nation.

Well the greater fear from our side is the Gulshan type incidents going on in Bangladesh and all the hackings that preceded it. There will always be such things going on in both sides as long as bad education and poverty are rampant.

Tripura is majority Hindu...so its a good thing it got to stay with India.
