Not sure about that but Bangladesh has all the chances to merge with Bay of Bengal in coming decades.
Can you explain why 1 million Bangladeshi tourists visit India each year (mostly West Bengal) but barely a trickle go in the other direction?
@Joe Shearer @jbgt90 @Omega007 @Rain Man @banvanaxl @PARIKRAMA @madokafc @nair @SrNair and others I may have skipped mentioning.
Tagging you for an interesting and potentially informative thread. Yesterday we wound up a thread fighting BD, now this gem!
Most informative post so far. Don't have the positive rating to give or would have given it
Yes We feel that Mughal Establishment is part of our history. Jahangir was our emperor too. Dhaka was called Jahangirnagar. It is only natural to visit those places.
And your post shows that you are not aware of Bengal at all. Few days ago kolkata singer Nachiketa made to the newspapers when he went Berserk seeing the rivers of his ancestral land. Many of them visit their ancestral lands given the slightest chance. In their leisure their older people romanticize about their memories in East Bengal which is flowed to the younger generation I am sure. And My teacher's both son got married in Kolkata. It's a common practise among Bengali hindus to seek spouse from either side of the Bengal instead of going into keralite family.
The total number of Bangladeshi tourists visiting India last year crossed the one million mark for the first time, according to the latest official statistics of the big neighbour.
About 1.12 million (11.2 lakh) Bangladeshis travelled to the next-door neighbour in 2015 while the number was 0.94 million in 2014.
India tops the list of inbound tourists in Bangladesh, followed by BritishBangladeshis, Chinese, Australians and Canadians. According to BTB, a total of 160,230 Indians visited Bangladesh followed by 83,100 BritishBangladeshis in 2012.
we are talking about political union... even though culturally both sides of bengal are more or less same.. there is no reason why wb will merge with bigger bd.Yes. It is the ultimate destiny.
Imagine a scenario Where, West Bengal and Bangladesh are both developed economy based on multicultural liberal society, Religion will dry out, It is very much possible that Kolkata babu will feel much more affiliation with Dhakaiya babu.
By then Sub continent will be civilized enough to let the region go by voting like the catalans.
It is a waste of time to ask such questions to RSS henchmen lurking out here. Only a dim witted fellow would think kolkata people have much in common with Keralites than Bangladeshis.
You are absolutely correct
I also want to add that tourism has become a recent phenomenon in BD after the rise of middle class and advancement of Social Network.
As Bangladesh is a small county almost all of us have visited different places multiple times. I hate cox's bazar now.
So now we are moving to new destinations which are India followed by Thailand, Bhutan, Nepal and Malaysia where as India is a big country for Indians..They haven't finished touring it. Why would they come to a different country?
My friends make small groups and tour India repeatedly which was not possible during my father's days.
You can show us the way by doing so in CHT and Sylhet first. Don't worry we will aid you by force if you ever need to be taught a lesson, the last one you will learn....and learn it the hard way.
It will be fun disintegrating Bangladesh into small tiny pieces and then pitting them against each other while the Indian ocean wins in the end
@Roybot @Rain Man do you ever see yourselves (and those around you) wanting to join your Dhaka brethren? You want to be part of the mermaid culture (great post btw rainman lol)?
Why don't you ask him if he thinks W.B will leave India to join you like you are dreaming about
Lets see if he agrees.
His version of reuniting is something you will not enjoy at all.
One word Hara-kiri.The only chance is if Bangladesh merges with India.
Otherwise 0 chance.
Not sure about that but Bangladesh has all the chances to merge with Bay of Bengal in coming decades.
the whole south asia was part of bd once...
true... but sikkim is different..
yeah, charity begins at home. Lets start with pasthuns , when is the artificial durand line being removed? The People of West bengal has always identified themselves as bengali first and if given opportunity i am more than sure that they will unite with their brothers across the artificial border.
I'd allow Bangladesh to merge with West Bengal under Indian dominion. No voting rights for the Bangladeshis though, and double the tax for the next 100 years atleast.
West Bengalis and Bangladeshis are very similar people but live in different countries.
almost 40% in 1947 to around 10% now !!

hahhaah ! reduction of Hindu population in BD is also because of RSS !

currently as part of indian union, they get the autonomy they need and remain part of a big single market.
There is more chance of european style borderless travel than political union.
I do not know well about economies. But didn't East Bengal come from far behind to match West Bengal in terms of GDP and Per capita post 1971?
Even when India is voting for BJP, West Bengal repeatedly chose not to do so which only means they have a different political outlook.
I know there is no reason to alter current political allegiance. I was talking about future..Who knows. We are evolving quick and nationalism may lose grip one day.
Even I am a globalist and I gave zero importance to " Man made " boundaries. I defend Bangladesh only because I am sworn to do so. I am born and fed here.
