What's new

Is there a ban on Azaan (prayer call) in effect ?

How hard is it to verify this?

What did Radio Pakistan Delhi reporter Zaid Hamid report on this?

No no no...its a total issue.

STEP 1) Assert India and Pakistan are so fundamentally different in every way imaginable. Proceed to use the worst language possible or hit likes for such language that the "use and throw away/ban away as needed" accounts do.....utilizing this asserted chasm formation. Abuse their muslim leaders like Owaisi or their muslims in general for being x y and z as needed on this concept too....leave those threads up still (stir them up again when time calls for it)....create new threads of "faith bro-ing", same members engaged in both...or "moderating" both....not giving a damn about the inconsistency...

STEP 2) Obsess over "fundamentally different + irrelevant) India anyway and endlessly in most cringey "all-in" + "extrapolate anecdotes as needed" ways possible (defeats step 1 assertion to any neutral/sane observer/participant, but who cares)

STEP 3) Credibility in echo chamber "strengthens"....credibility outside of it weakens (but ignored for sake of emotional cocooning).
(complain about polarisation of others "that you have nothing to do with" while actively engaged in it yourself, but too deluded to see).....Bonus points if "other flag" accounts join in...broad consensuseseses achieved! STRONK!

Now there is supposedly a STEP ZERO in claimed rules/modding (never happened before! - novel idea here) to be enforced to attempt to reduce the nasty entropy buildup....like the way they did the ZEROTH law in thermodynamics coz they figured out the whoopsie after the initial cpl laws lol.

You can definitely hold your breath and wait! Trust, trust trust....verification/result though is some XYZ-ism and thus wrongthink.

Resisting much? ....*Posts sent to purgatory for "off topic" wrongthink* *other posts still left up even after violation of rules in full view of the enforcers*

I guess whomever can do it the most in the end, suffers the most in the end out there....and proceed to double down on the behaviour even more.

It doesn't need to be this way....all end up being pawns because they dont think beyond it...and worse they make pawns out of the next batch of young clay....always the hope of getting to the 8th rank I suppose...dont question who says they can get you there.

@Joe Shearer @VCheng @Krptonite

PJ had it right....

Even flow.... thoughts arrive like butterflies

Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away

Someday yet, he'll begin his life again

Whispering hands, gently lead him away Him away, him away....

You ARE a bit cross at the moment, aren't you? Let me read the OP; it will take a while, I have a few small chores to run.

I got some feedback on friend of mine posts being removed (recently)...and it caused bit of memories to flood in when this same ole same ole thread started.

The feeling (whatever mix it was) has passed now anyway. I think I will just resign to reading/entering threads even more selectively than before.

Just read hurriedly through some of the information. It reads as if someone, somewhere has been clumsy, and has not got a clue what to do. The correct thing to do is to instruct the imams to change the wording of the azaan, not to issue a call to congregate at the mosque, but simply to pray at home. Instead the baby has gone out with the bath-water, and either the Delhi admin. (Kejriwal hiding behind the pillows as usual, and allowing Mota Bhai to be his gross, natural self) or the UP admin., led by that lunatic Yogi Adityanath, or both, have clamped down on the azaan itself.

That is ridiculous on the face of it.

Saba Naqvi is a journalist whom I trust, and Audrey Truschke is a scholar in whom I repose a lot of faith (in spite of her gluey, clingy American-pedant language). I read this consciously filtering out the comments by the village idiots and it didn't read well.

Incidentally, I haven't heard the azaan call here, from the Dargah or from the two mosques nearby. Just realised after reading this thread, and it is an uncomfortable feeling.

As for the rest, the echo-chamber syndrome, I quite agree. But when did the village idiots matter in any sensible discussion anyway? I would rather respond direct to @PakSword and people like him, even with a dismayed response.

To my mind, the modulus of elasticity of our social tolerance has done its bit and is on the verge of giving up. The BJP faces a major backlash from a consortium of outraged Indians; whether, in the absence of any opposition, it will translate into electoral consequences, is a moot point. I think it's too early. Also, Indian society does not react at a uniform pace, and I think that reaction will come at different times in different places; it is already present in the east, it will be strained most in the north, and the west and the south need to be watched.

Just my thruppence, assuming I am worth a penn'orth more.

I dunno, lot of ppl are calling her out on this one. I guess lets see. A few muslim organisations in the area are following up on it, I will wait to see what is resolved there.

I just called my cousin, who lives in GK2. There is NO ban on azaan. Some Haryanvi cop has got his testosterone in a tangle, or it's Mota Bhai at work, being subtle this time (his subtle is ramming an 'undesirable' with a motorbike rather than using a multiple-axle truck).

Just to clarify, there is a ban on azaan over the loudspeaker, not otherwise. She says her locality is not at all affected, and the Muslims in M Block Market have not turned up just like all the other shopkeepers, ever since the lock-down.

I think I need to ask around a bit.

We are going through our own tensions. There has been a concentration, a hot-spot in Risalla Bazar, just across the highway from our village of Kowkoor, and the cops are going ape-shit. All shops open for four hours till noon, only medical shops allowed to open beyond that. Our own building volunteers' committee has been dissuading us from moving out.

So its confirmed this mosque was not using a loudspeaker then? Yah then its police thugs overreaching and thats probably why investigation into these 2 cops was opened too.

They get to be scapegoats too for higher ups, fun!

Just got back from my medicine-restocking, and drive-by vegetable and fruit buying. So here are the results, not in order of importance, but any old how:
  1. There is no ban in Hyderabad (I'm actually in Secunderabad <insert supercilious look>) on the azaan, but there is a ban on loudspeakers. I asked my veg. seller and she very sadly said that she hadn't heard the early morning call, upon which she was shouted down by others who live around and about the Dargah (about 2 kms. down the road). A Hindu vendor (judging by his caste marks) then kindly informed this mere female that it was only the loudspeaker that was banned. The chief (Muslim) fruitseller was annoyed at her remark that 'they' had locked the mosque, and told her to check these things before saying stuff that was scary.
  2. I examined my vegetables very carefully after reading this thread. When I got home, before sitting down before the computer, and washed them very, very carefully. If I am to go by the minatory cautions of some members, she would have spat on them before packing them for me. But then, since I call her 'beti', she might have given me a discount bad-duwa and spat on them only once. This is the one with a math. wizard son of 10 or 11, whose math I had fun testing with my rusty Senior Cambridge (O Level to you savages) math; he came out tops. The same one with a teen-aged daughter who wants to be an air-hostess.
  3. There has been no spread of the virus to Risalla Bazar, and all that I heard was rumour-mongering. Talk of giving a dog a bad name. So you will have to suffer my posts for a few weeks more, till a vengeful lord takes me away as part compensation for the daily ill-treatment of his followers by others who are also his followers by some other name.
For the rest, I read the earlier posts and was impressed. I was impressed by
  1. The depressing content; this is really not what one wishes to hear at Ramzan, when one wishes one's friends a month of sober contemplation and modest social interaction with their nearest and dearest.
  2. The reactions of insane Pakistani members; the first half a dozen or so were of this category. I am thinking of making a Wiki of the more pyrotechnic of these comments, including those of the Lord of the Rings vocaliser.
  3. The reactions of sane Pakistani members, who struggled to be heard, and also struggled not to be misunderstood to be supporting the despicable Divider-in-Chief. How ironic that they are in the same boat as sober and moderate Indians, and have to fight not to be categorised in that group of the wajib-e-qatl.
  4. The reactions of insane Indian members. Everybody in war-paint, ready for battle (on the Internet; no need to look up chemical prophylaxis to nuclear exposure). I must introduce them to Raj Singh; he comes XXXL sized blob of grease and bile and hatred, and spends every waking minute (from the looks of it) thinking up some way to irritate all Muslims and moderate secular Hindus. The other alternative is that there is a whole room in the BJP IT cell working for him. For those who do not know, he is the only BJP Member of Parliament from Telangana. Someone has effed up in spectacular fashion.
  5. I was not impressed by the impressions of sane Indian members, because they had been carried away by the flood of invective listed at category #2. Not a good excuse; reacting to two-legged animals by channelling two-legged animals is neither original nor pretty.
  6. I was supremely impressed by this kind of thread being started, being permitted, and being sustained by members. Supremely impressed.
And that is all that I have to say about that.

OMG hahaha....that visual. Just needs a desert sail barge, music and entertainment, a jar of "delicacies" and a pet rancor. @saiyan0321

All around me are familiar faces, worn out places...worn out faces....

...when people run in circles, its a very very.....mad world.

When I was new here, I used to have a donnie darko pic.... must have been my inner subconscious and intuition trying to tell me something....

So the paranoia is real regarding washing goods bought from the lower caste?

The confusion around it all is the reason why there is a question mark in the thread title.

What are NtG controls on other usage of loudspeakers?

Walk away, Chief, you should not be in this imbroglio. You are meant for higher-calibre discussions.

There's a video circulating on social media accounts that Azaan has officially been banned in parts of Northern India.

A women could be seen confronting the cops on how can they offer prayers at homes as ordered by the govt and break fast if there's no call for prayer?

@Mangus Ortus Novem @Syed Hammad Ahmed @SIPRA @masterchief_mirza @PakSword @Cashew @fitpOsitive
No azaan ban, only congregations, the mauzzin in our vicinity regularly reminds the faithfull to thank the Lord for his bounty.

@Nilgiri Don't be disheartened mate, many members here might be unaware but this is the decision of the elders from within the community itself, they fully support the governments efforts to curb this menace and are pitching in their part to help tide this over.

Biased people will twist any data to suit their needs, this forum's decidedly anti India "rabid" tilt skews perceptions further. Much easier to demonize and hate a monster than a human being.
