Is Railgun Answer to Threat posed by IN's Suface Fleet??

In order to fire a projectile to travel 110 miles at a level trajectory, a rail-gun needs 32 megajoules of energy, drawing 25 MW of power, The range of BrahMos I is 180 miles. The rail-gun is a development concept. In the near future, it will be a good toy to scare third-word countries with. Not so much a proper navy. Maybe 15-20 years down the line, things will be different.

I m not saying about immediate induction as its not possible but the way IN surface fleet is expending Pakistan need options to handle them.

Well going by that rationale

DRDO should be washing tanks with the "super liquid" of the Gods and producing newer deadlier versions.

DRDO should also be harnessing gas from the Gods for fart guns ; thereby launching projectiles even further than electromagnetically accelerated ones.

Now, concentrate back on India and make your self scarce if you have nothing but you insecurities to share around.

Vanish now ..

Truth stings, eh?

DRDO has already done what no Pakistan R&D will be able to do in the foreseeable future.

@Basel @MastanKhan The problem that needs to solved in most of the cases is not the gun or the projectile. In my opinion, a major part of the problem revolves around what to shoot, locating it, identifying it and ensuring your projectile/war head reaches the target.

You are right, but initially US & China may use kinetic energy hit to kill rounds may be high manoeuvring guided ones too, although both want other type of munitions to be qualified for railing too.

Yup sure...But you have to wait like,50 years to get Zumwalt transferred to Pakistan Navy.

China will TOT when time comes and need arise, Pakistan don't expect advance tech from west like railgun or HGV.

So now having to say constructive is considered trolling or is the spectacles of hatred so dark that contents of post become irrelevant ?? And what rationale are you talking about ?? This is the way countries around the world operate. They bring up there defense capabilities by maturing different other fields of technology and then culminating them into one product. If they have not advanced yet in a particular field , they acquire the technology off the shelf and then absorb the tech by maturing their organic infrastructure .

I always thought you to be a learned individual but now ,with all due respect, I stand corrected. For you the ideal solution would be to build a jinn powered naval shipyard which then will build jinn powered jangi taiyare firing majical potions over their targets !!

Futuristic Navy railgun with 220-mile range closer to reality

A $10 million contract with Raytheon for the Pulse Forming Network means that the newfangled weapon system, which uses electromagnetic energy instead of explosives to fire, is one step closer to deployment.

Imagine a Naval gun so powerful it can shoot a 5-inch projectile up to 220 miles, yet requires no explosives to fire.
That's the Navy's futuristic electromagnetic railgun, a project that could be deployed on the service's ships by 2025, and which is now a little bit closer to reality with the signing of a deal with Raytheon for the development of what's known as the pulse-forming network.
Rather than using explosives to fire projectiles as do conventional naval weapons, the railgun depends on an electromagnetic system that uses the ship's onboard electrical power grid to fire the gun. The pulse-forming network is a system that stores up electrical power and then converts it to a pulse that is directed into the gun's barrel, explained John Cochran, the railgun program manager in Raytheon's Advanced Technology Group.
Essentially, Cochran continued, the process is akin to that of a car's starter, and how turning the ignition sends a jolt of electricity into the solonoid, which then creates a magnetic field in the solonoid/starter system. With the railgun, he said, current is sent into the barrel, forming a magnetic field, and that, in combination with the current, exerts force on a projectile, firing it out of the barrel. At Mach 0.75.
While Raytheon has scored the $10 million project to develop the pulse-forming network, it isn't the only contractor working on such a system. According to Roger Ellis, the program manager for the Railgun program at the Office of Naval Research, the Navy has awarded similar contracts to BAE Systems and General Atomics in a risk-reduction strategy that counts on having multiple contractors attacking a problem in order to arrive at the best possible technology.

Safety
One of the main reasons behind the Navy's railgun program is that being able to power the gun electromagnetically is seen as much safer than having to use conventional explosives.

With possible range of 220miles railguns could be good for coastal defence not just for surface fleet.

Constructive what ?

Do point it out .. PLEASEEEE ...

This thread is about (albeit) juvenile wish of a rail gun for Pakistan Naval defense.

Now, U being an Hindu-stani is trying to tell us why WE may not and Should not be able to get that weapon.
WHILE at the same time, slipping in the clever bit about China getting it first and then asking for soft loans.

AND when hit where the sun don't shine, you turn professor !

now, go and make ( 4 letter word)* to yourself.

See I knew the hatred is so high with you that u never even read the post. Read my post once again. Now really slowly. You will see that I have NEVER mentioned PAKISTAN CANNOT HAVE RAILGUN. Rather I drew a rough outline how it CAN HAVE. Now it is up to you to decide what to do, Either you can work your a$$ off for few years, invest in your country and R&D to make a home built system or take a shortcut and get it from China. If you take the shortcut, you won't have enough time to boost your economy (as you are not investing anything in your country to get returns) to get to a position where you can buy these things through hard cash. Remember PN only gets 10% of the defense expenditure.

I am not surprised by your post this time. I had expected similar coming from a nationalistic emotional fool.

too clever for your own good.

So What ?? Is saying that constructing a complex system like that is not as simple as @Genghis khan1 thinks it to be means "Pakistan Cannot or should not " do it ?? What kinda logic is that ??

I am again repeating what I said before. "Pakistan wants to build a Railgun firing destroyer ?? Ok they can considering they can mature their tech. It ain't easy but not impossible."

Basically inventing wheel is difficult but once wheel is invented one can learn how to make it from inventor, so no need to reinvent wheel. Same approach Pakistan takes which is better too.

Very true. But sometimes the wheel is way too much of value to be given off/sold to third party. Hence reinventing the wheel becomes the only way out. Best example South Korea asked US for multiple tech used in F-35, USA agreed for everything except the sensor fusion tech and conformal sensor. Why bcoz they wr the crown jewels of their R&D.

Ooh! thanks for your complements but how we Indians can pose threat to you guys?
Our projects are B$ but pakistanis are far ahead of us in these fields.
What a fanboy!
You don't need to care about us. First see conditions of your own country and then, say something about us.

You will see much capable ships in PN with in 10 year. just wait and watch

Much capable than Zumwalt?? :o::o:

I don't think I'm going to see a "Much capable ship than Zumwalt" in any navy except USN for next 1 decade or 2.Zumwalt is like USN's F-22,Introduced in 2005 and 1 decade later,People are talking about systems inferior to F-22 will come into operation sometimes in the next decade.:D

China will TOT when time comes and need arise, Pakistan don't expect advance tech from west like railgun or HGV.

well, don't say that.at least West did supply you much needed tech whenever needed.Like F-16s and advanced subs.right??so,anything can happen.

and if you're talking about a "Shore based Railgun",well, its not much of a use considering it as a static target.Seriously,I don't think anybody will field a Railgun within a decade except USN.

Pakistan always had issues in maintaining its frontline western weapons systems specially during hostilities with India, west can provide M-3/5 rebuild factory but same can not be done for M-2Ks or F-16s till they are nearly out-dated for west.

While China share its frontline line tech whatever they have and even customize it as per our needs, they teach is how to built to be self reliant in most cases.

Chinese seems eager to get rail gun, laser weapon & EMALS, ASAP, first two systems they may field sooner then many expect, they are few years behind US now in fielding those.
