Honestly, I doubt it. Much to the delight of many members here and to the chagrin of saner voices, I seriously doubt it. All these years, the politicians were busy making money, while the common man suffered. You should read the works of RK Laxman - a political satairist cartoonist. He aptly depicts the predicament of the Indian common man in his humorous and witty cartoons. I do own a few copies of his collections. Good worth for the money!
Rest assured, the social drawbacks and politics based on regionalism, religion and casteism have also taken its toll on our overall security situation. Its a common understanding among some politicians that to score petty points over your rival, its necessary for some people to die. I myself have heard this kind of talk. What more can you expect from such politicians then? Why would they care if people die in a terrorist attack, it would be just another opportunity for them politicians to harvest votes. Neither is it going to create a big dent in our population if a few people do get killed in a terrorist attack. Thats how some politicians think, unfortunately.
But now, hopefully with a much better educated newer generation and increase in the literacy rate will empower the common man to demand more accountability from our politicians! If the previous elections results are anything to go by, I think there's been a profound change in the way our electorate sees the political drama. If the govt wasn't serious about our security just to appease their respective votebanks, the times now have changed. Expect more accountability and transparency from the government, and if they fail, they will definitely be taken to task! So here's hoping for a better performance from the GoI vis-a-vis the security situation.
