Is India on its way to becoming a superpower?

India won't be a super-power. It has too many regional challengers. United States was lucky it is surrounded by oceans and two friendly nations in the north and south and thus was able to project power and not enter into a regional arms race with either Canada or Mexico.

India has to contend with Pakistan, China, and other countries and thus cannot achieve breakout potential to dominate the world the way USA does.

China too has the same problem. It has too many regional rivals. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, India, Russia, USA.

On the whole, the era of super-powers is coming to an end. Once China surpasses USA in GDP, the world will be a multi-polar world rather than singular polar that it is today.

So China or India, won't replace USA as super-power but rather it will be a leveling off effect. A similar situation in Europe before World War I where Germany, England, France, Russia, Japan, Italy, USA, Ottoman Empire were more or less equally strong.

For the 21st century it will be USA, China, India, European Union, Russia, and Brazil but US will continue to be the leading global power for at least another 40 years.

Finally, a realistic view on this forum.

If you want to see who is the real "Galaxial Power" (lol)... then please look at the video above.
come on mate, have some fun. we guys enjoy making fun of each other but it seems you are not enjoying the INDIAN comments. some times if we are bored and there is no one to comment, we comment on ourselves and laugh for some time,.
life is short and happiness and laugh is even shorter, so enjoy the sarcasm and please do post more videos as you have posted. it gives me more of stomach aching laugh

After we take Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka we will have full regional control and then we will move into Tibet and then take over SCS with help from Vietnam and Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia. At the same time we will move into the Middle East (with permission from America). India will have the highest population on earth and have access to all the best Western weapons.
LOL, trolls

Sorry brother, but when someone accuses us of having a big head and dreaming of being a "Galaxial Empire" or whatever, then the correct response is to point out the hypocrisy. :P

well thats true. beating usa will be hard as phuck. many countries came and went who were extremely close to defeating usa militarily and economically. ex europe union, soviet, japan. all these countries came close, but usa always keeps its cards and diplomacy hidden for the right time. and when the time for true competition comes us just pulls the plug and leaves them in dust. their economic and military planners are too smart to win over.

but i am still sure india will be on par or stronger than us within 30 yrs.

I really think before someone joins this forum they need to pass a military, geo-political and heck even common sense skill testing quiz to weed out people like this.

happy to see that you have called me "BROTHER" for the first time.
I am honored.

The day the world becomes multipolar, i hoping to see an end to the US military campaign in other nations, atlease i want their forces to be withdrawn from lands that is not theirs.

When the world is multi-polar it will happen automatically.

For example, the War in Libya. Europe asked USA to get involved and assist even though Libya is in Europe's backyard.

When the world is multi-polar, other powers will have vested interest in other areas of the world and can project power.

So in 40 years, Europeans could ask the Chinese to assist with some turmoil in Africa instead of just going to USA.

America becoming a "hyperpower" is a result of many factors, that do not exist for any other country in the world.

Russia is boxed in by Europe/China/Japan/USA. China is boxed in by Russia/USA/India/Japan.

The USA on the other hand is geographically separated from the rest of the world, by the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. As far as a ground invasion goes, the USA might as well be on another planet.

So even in the event that another nation gains the raw economic/military/diplomatic/cultural power of the USA, they will never reach the level of a hyperpower like America is.

Sad but true.

USA has certain advantages which makes it unique. Its Capitalist, its a Democracy, its a nation founded by Immigrants, its multicultural and multi-racial, its vast geographically, it has coasts on both sides of the ocean which allows it project power much more easily, and it only rewards hardwork and it has lot of natural resources.

Japan is small geographically, Soviet Union had a corrupt system and Europe is too socialist which has created this permanent underbelly of people on welfare.

So even if China surpasses USA in the world's largest Economy by 2025, that still won't matter. USA will be a much more attractive place to live than China and even India.

There is a good book I read a few years ago which forecasts what will happen in the next 100 years. Check it out

if that happens i am hoping that the CHINESE will not follow the foot steps of the US in destablizing some other country for the sake of geo political strategy, neither should INDIA do that if INDIA stands to be a leader in the top table of world politics.

Chinese by their nature are pretty passive people. They usually stick to themselves and don't get involved in other people's mess. USA was the same way until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor which dragged USA into World War II.

Even at the height of our power in history, Ancient China never tried to colonize other countries.

China is a world all unto itself. As long as outsiders don't interfere with us, we have no need to project power outside our own region.

IndoCarib, this is my favorite video so I would like to understand it better.
How does it make fun of Indians and can you explain the plot near the end where the guy drives up and was "really fast".
Thanks!!

It is set in Mysore, a two tier city in Karnataka. The Bangalore bound BA flights makes a unscheduled landing in Mysore. Then on Britisher is stunned to see the level of development. It video actually lampoons Indians, in the sense that the foreigners on the road have caught ugly Indian habits, like begging and Cab (Lambos !) drivers pestering travelers. You also see an Indian giving away loads of cash to buy a ticket! Then the Britisher realizes that if you don't know Kannada you are taken as uneducated in Mysore. You tell me is it remotely ever possible ? And what the Britisher thinks is a help desk is actually the Chief Minister of Karnataka ! The satire can be can be easily missed here if you dont understand what its all about

Read my post properly. Then name me any one country that was a "colony" of China.

That expansion you see is people being assimilated into the Chinese nation.

Once, Han Chinese was only one small tribe along the Yellow River. We grew and assimilated until we are now the largest ethnic group on the planet.

Every country has grown this way. Germany also started from one small tribe, so did Egypt and Mesopotamia. That is how ethnic and cultural identities evolve over time.
