Russia has pitched its S-300 surface-to-air missile system to India, reports RIA-Novosti. Mikhail Sukachev, a representative of Russian state arms firm Rosoboronexport, recently spoke at the Defexpo arms show in New Delhi: “Russia has offered India to create a comprehensive air defense system using different air defenses, including S-300 missile systems of various modifications.” The news briefing came after Indian media reports named the U.S. Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) as the main competitor to the Russian S-300.

Im not even sure we have the S-300 there is no confirmation from MOD that I have seen but I maybe wrong.

This was back in 2006 so I think you are right these would have been the more advanced version of the system

Since 1995 India has been negotiating with Russia regarding purchase of the S-300, in response to Pakistan's deployment of M-11 missiles from China. In 1995 Russian Defense Deputy Minister Kokoshin offered to sell S-300 missiles during his trip to India. Following this offer Indian officials started negotiations with the Russian manufacturers, and in August 1995 the Indian Defense Secretary Nambiar went to Russia to observe tests of the missiles near Moscow. The $1 billion purchase is said to include six S-300 systems, with each combat system consisting of 48 missiles. Reportedly in June 1996 27 S-300 missiles were delivered to India.

Guys just tell me one thing when Russia stopped at 290 for Brahmos due to MTCR I see a challenge in selling this missle. The latest ones are only ABM capable and not the older ones.

Meaning to say they were only of 150 kms range when they were offered to us. We did a triel but it failed in Indian hot conditions. Then we looked out for other partners for getting such a type of missile.

That's why Israel came into picture. Trust me there is no point in keeping it a secret if we have those missiles, coz our neighbour already makes a license copy.
