Is common Pakistani Man rooting for Taliban Resurgence in Afghanistan

So being pro-India, pro-Israel becomes the qualification for a troll ?

Pretty narrow vision.

Where did he say that's the qualification for a troll? That's just one kind of troll.

Coming back to the topic.

My understanding is pakistan has a democratically elected government ... so public opinion should be reflected by the government. if ISI in fact is hand in glove with taliban elements then whose interest is the ISI catering for , the military generals or the common man's??

How many of of the members reading this thread would be ok with a afghan government which is completely independent of pakistan's foreign policy. An afghan government has its own foreign policy completely independent of pakistan's vision for the region.

An Afghan government cannot be completely independent from Pakistan even if they tried, because the Afghan Pashtuns are the highest ethnic population in Afghanistan (at 15 million, 45% of Afghanistan), & Pakistani Pashtuns are about 22% of Pakistan's population (40 million).

And Pakistanis would be perfectly fine with an Afghan government completely independent from Pakistan's foreign policies, as long as they a) don't threaten Pakistan's geographical integrity & b) don't "take 'orders' from India" (in other words, free from Indian influence).

The only thing Pakistan cares is that the Afghan government doesn't support/sponsor anti-Pakistan troublemakers in their territory.

Unfortunately, historically, the Afghan governments have done just that because of Pakhtun nationalism and also India's prodding.

Not Pakistan's place to dictate what the govt of a sovereign country can or can't do..

let me get this right...So afghanistan cannot be an ally of India according to pakistan as it views india as its enemy... do you consider afghanistan as a free state?

Do you have any such reservations regarding US, Russia, Iran etc too?

Actually, even the US realizes Pakistan has legitimate interests & concerns in Afghanistan.

No, Afghanistan can be an Indian ally. But it shouldn't threaten Pakistan's geographical integrity in anyway. If India is going to look for their geopolitical strategic interests in Afghanistan, so will Pakistan, only much more than India. It's fair game. Afghanistan has to choose between either being a peaceful neighbor with Pakistan, or let its land be used against Pakistan.

You might want to read about the rights of land locked countries under the UN charter..

Afghanistan can have all the relations it wants with India. The only requirement Pakistan has is that such cooperation does not extend to illegal/clandestine activities against Pakistan.

If Pakistani leaders had half a brain, they would have forged solid ties with Iran. Afghanistan would fall in line automatically.

My understanding is pakistani members view an Indo-Afghan alliance as a geo-strategic tool for india to stifle pakistan, how is it so different from th massive chinese assistance to pakistan in civilian and military infrastructure?

what I am failing to figure out might be, is there a sense among pakistani members that afghans owe so kind of morale gratitude towards pakistan or something of that kind ?

Its a fair expectation from a neighbour.. But thats all it can be... An expectation.. Pakistan does not have any right to dictate requirements or conditions on a country's relations with other countries..

Pakistan will do whatever it can to have a favorable government in power in Afghanistan that doesn't threaten its geographical integrity, just like India everything it can to keep Sheikh Hasina's Awami League in power in Bangladesh. It's simple enough. Pakistan doesn't need hostile neighbors, the rest is fine.
