Is common Pakistani Man rooting for Taliban Resurgence in Afghanistan

Forget Taliban. I've always wondered though, does the common man in Pakistan root for people like Qadri, the guy who killed Salman Taseer.

I have always thought no, but i remember reading on how he got showered with flowers at the courts and how so many lawyers were willing to defend him. It almost indicates that he had mass support of the local Pakistani population. Did he?

What would you say about the Pakistani population that gave the religious parties only 3% of the votes in the last elections?

.
What would you say about the Germans that supported Hitler during WW2, or the Indians that supported Modi despite the fact that he was directly involved in the murder of 2000 Indian Muslims?

I would say they were mad and brainwashed.

Anyway it was genuine question, and I hope you didn't take it personally. From my perch, as represented by the media, it looked as if Qadri had the support of the whole nation. Hence I'm asking this question in this forum, what's the general consensus of him among the Pakistani people? Does he have support or do most people consider him a nut?

Qadri had the support of the whole nation??????? HA!

So a few thousand people came out in his favor, you seem to be forgetting that Pakistan is a nation of 180 million people. The loudest ones are always the fundos, & the less louder ones are always the moderates, who constitute the majority of Pakistan. You probably haven't come across all the Pakistani articles that so strongly supported Salman Taseer & everything he stood for.

The media really did it make it sound that way.

Check out this article sometime.

How Pakistan responded to Salmaan Taseer's assassination | World news | The Guardian

Yes, I don't read Pakistani papers so besides what is shown on CNN and BBC, I had no idea on whose side the ground population was on.

Hence that is why I'm on this forum, to learn :)

You shouldn't be sprouting about things you frankly know nothing about, & just read what other people are saying if you want to learn. In the case of Pakistan (not related to Qadri here), being anti-American does not mean being pro-Taliban, because as you can see, it is the US that got senior Taliban leaders' names off the UN blacklist, it is the US that is not targeting the Taliban safehavens in Kunar & Nuristan, it is the US that wants the Taliban to disassociate themselves with Al-Qaeda (& from the Haqqani network), & it is the US that wants to set up Taliban offices in Qatar.

LOL! Relax man, for real. This is just an online forum

I'm sprouting things based on the impressions that I have, based on the things that I have read.

The lack of outrage over Salman Taseer's assasination was not because people supported Qadri, but because Salman Taseer was no hero to anyone. Most people's reaction was "Salman who?".

He was an unapologetic elitist snob who looked down his nose at the common Pakistani and had practically no history of philanthropy or human rights work. If he had been a staunch supporter of the downtrodden, he would have been much more credible. Unfortunatelty, given his arrogant personality, he came across as a typical opportunistic politician who decided to grandstand on an issue purely through hubris and because it was the chic thing to do in liberal elitist circles.

You yourself have admitted you don't have any clue about what's really going on, because you haven't read any Pakistani newspapers, so if you want to sprout out your ignorant opinions, be my guest. I won't stop you, this is a free forum, even if someone has uninformed views like you have. Peace.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I appreciate it :)

Bilal, there are alot of foreign newspapers here too, Pakistani papers aren't the only source of information. Anyway it wasn't my intention to offend you. Peace :)

This guy is a consistently anti-Muslim, anti-Pakistan, pro-India, pro-Israel troll.

Just play along for fun like I do...

LOL i'm a just a pro-liberal, but if that's how you choose to judge me, maybe it's best I refrain myself from commenting. Thanks anyway for the replies. I'm out of here. Have a good day :)

Yes, which is why you should try to read from all different sources if you really want to learn & have an informed opinion.
