It's not hard to calculate the result on the actions being taken or will be taken in coming days.
If the economic situation remains on the same patterns as it was in Noon times, minister can't be called successful.

I don't know his way of work, but he must understand not to trust his own department, national and international bankers, and international monetary institutions. He needs a team out of these 3. Experts, he can also find in local universities.
If he doesn't do this and walks on the paths told by his own bureaucrat and bankers, he will utterly fail (fail means situation remains as it is and was in previous 10-20 years).
Signs show that he is working according to the suggestions of his department. Like the ban on registration of vehicles for non-filers.

Very valid points, but its still too early to call him a failing minister.

Yes they require extra time you saying not requiring extra times shows that you have not a single clue about economy just want to bash Asad Umar for sake of bashing Asad Umar so continue and he would continue to work and deliver. PTI in first 5 years which it got in province has done far better than those who ruled for around 30 years in a province and did not do that much so please

Again, basically you are blaming Asad Umar for something he cannot be held accountable for...5 Years of unprecedented loot and plunder of the exchequer.

The fudged figures as in fake targets and overstretched estimates as well as unrealistic allocations in the PMLN approved 2018 budget had little else choice left for Asad Umar but to make corrective measures in the form of the presented finance bill.

I'm sure the next budget of PTI will be even harsher than this one on some of the already taxed general public as there is no other way but to cut the subsidies and increase the tax net to repay the unprecedented Foreign Debt that was borrowed by PMLN to loot Pakistan with both hands and amass the same ill gotten wealth abroad.

Like I said before, only an incompetent or an imbecile if not a completely biased individual can blame Asad Umar for going against his words or the dire state of the economy and his first corrective measures to fix the last absurd Budget of a suicidal PMLN government at the verge of annihilation in elections.

If i was Finance Minister of Pakistan I would have declared banktruptcy.

People were expecting some revolutionary steps, but were presented with same old pathetic excuses. At least they could have invented new ones. The allamay on this thread lecturing Pakistanis about not paying their taxes and availing subsidies, they themselves don't do jobs in Pakistan, meaning they don't pay a penny in tax. In allamo ko Pakistani tax ka alif bay b nai pata aur na he inhay Pakistani tax department kay karnamo ka andaza hy ....... Yeh jo khazanay khali huay hain wo bahary kiss nay thay? Aur ub phir kiss ko keh rahay hain bharnay ka? Lecture daina asan hay ..... q kay ub samnay PTI ka minister jo hy.

• Allowing non filers to get the vehicles and land registered in their names is one blunder and the excuse presented that OSPs were facing problem is reflective of non seriousness and appeasement of a specific class. The OSPs if they intend to invest in property in Pakistan and wish to buy cars in Pakistan should file their wealth statements on Pakistan FBR webportal. Their income remains exempt in Pakistan. But they should be documented then. This move facilitated the ones who still carry cash in their car trunks, choose to remain outside the tax circle, big housing schemes and car mafia in Pakistan.
• If above excuse is acceptable, then why the duck this Asad Umer failed to facilitate a common Pakistani who is not supposed to pay any tax (based on the annual income threshold and age etc). For example a pensioner a senior citizen his pension is exempt from income tax, no tax should be paid by him on this (if its the pension only, but he still has to file an income tax return to avoid higher rates of deduction at source). And suppose if that person person performs a cash transaction of more than PKR 50,000 in a day he will get taxed, tax will be deducted from him ......... where does that tax go? Because it never gets refunded to him. If you were so concerned about making life easier for people, then you shouldn't have stopped at appeasing OSPs, non filers, building real estate mafia and car mafia only.
• Do you know corporate tax rates gradually went down from 35% per year to 30%? And do you know how much PPL (a Pakistani exploration company that owns Sui purification plant) pays in taxes a year. Just imagine 5% reduction would have resulted in billions of tax loss ........ but come it common Pakistani salaried class, reduction in tax rates is unacceptable ......... fck the logic .... I won't even comment on how these new proposed rates are discriminatory and are reflective of sheer incompetence.
• FBR leakage, incompetence, laziness, and corruption results in billions of revenue loss every year.
• Keeping petrol and other commodity prices in fractions like ##.## this bold underline is coins, paisas, which are no more and the consumer end up paying a round figure higher than the original price, club all these paisas all over Pakistan and it comes to billions. Where does that money go?
• IK said that people will willingly pay taxes, people only pay taxes when they feel that their purchasing power remains intact, the money taken from them is spent on right causes, to make their lives easy ........ where is that agenda? Why Asad Umer has failed to tell us that part?
• Broadening of tax base means when you start documenting and penalizing habitual offenders and make them pay their share of taxes, and not by facilitating them and burdening the already existing tax payers. Asad Umer should look to his right and left in that Parliament building and see how these people can afford such luxuries all the while when they declare that they have no source of income and the big elephants that they are ride are all gifted.

@AsianUnion your statement about threshold being less than PKR 400,000 is factually incorrect. They have divided salary class into two groups, one still enjoying the benefit provided by the previous government and the other one getting burdened.

Did you even watch/listen to his address? Taxable income is still 12 lakh per year.

No its not ........ it still remains 400,000 ...... but with very nominal tax of PKR 1,000 per anum.

It took us 70 years to be reached here. Even if he is in charge, what do you expect ... he will suddenly make everything right. Right now, the government is trying to avoid IMF at all cost because the last government set the trap for that (Qatar LNG debacle). Plus, it is a popular statement that gas prices have been increased. Yes, it is true but we must also consider which sectors to be affected and which to benefit. The industry needs cheaper energy resources. In order to compensate that, some other sectors will have to face the blunt and this is what's going on here.
