I think after they killed Abu Musaavi - the Jordanian, whose name I sure I did not spell correctly, they saw how he was seen as a hero and his dead body images used for propoganda purposs to recruit new fighters.

Kind of a Che Guevara or Jesus effect where the depictions of the dead body give rise to new cults.
