TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior advisor to the
commander of the Islamic Revolution
Guards Corps said the US casualties in
Iraq and Afghanistan have made
Washington more wary of war against
other regional states, adding that
American experts know now that
attacking Iran would mean 30,000 US
soldiers die on the first day of war.
"The US strategists say that Iran can now
bring an area 2,500km wide under a
barrage of missile attacks, and that a
military war with Iran will result in the
massacre of 30,000 Americans on the
very first day of war," Saffar Harandi, who
also used to serve as Iran's culture
minister, said on Sunday.
He said that the Americans who once
wanted to force Iran to compromise and
surrender after the wars in Afghanistan
and Iraq now are seeking a safe way to
come out of the quagmires they have
created for themselves in those two
countries.
The US and its close ally Israel have
recently intensified their war rhetoric
against Iran. The two arch foes of the
Islamic Republic accuse Iran of seeking a
nuclear weapon, while they have never
presented any corroborative document to
substantiate their allegations. Both
Washington and Tel Aviv possess
advanced weapons of mass destruction,
including nuclear warheads.
Iran vehemently denies the charges,
insisting that its nuclear program is for
peaceful purposes only. Tehran stresses
that the country has always pursued a
civilian path to provide power to the
growing number of Iranian population,
whose fossil fuel would eventually run
dry.
Iran has, in return, warned that it would
target Israel and its worldwide interests
in case it comes under attack by the Tel
Aviv.
The United States has long stressed that
military action is a main option for the
White House to deter Iran's progress in
the field of nuclear technology.
Iran has warned that in case of an attack
by either the US or Israel, it will target 32
American bases in the Middle East and
close the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
An estimated 40 percent of the world's
oil supply passes through the waterway.

Hmmm....That's what the Iraqi's said before the US invasion! 'Mother of all battles', Saddam had hollered from the rooftops! But what happened instead? The Iraqis were 'Shocked and awed' when the Yanks were let loose!! But needless to say, one can't compare Iraq with Iran which is a force to reckon with.

However, the war aim of the US+Israel is to neutralise/destroy Iran's nukes. Not invade the country with ground forces. Therefore....

Phase I would be to saturate and destroy strategic targets including missile sites and airfields with cruise missiles from their Carrier Strike Groups operating in the Arabian Sea.

Phase II would be launched after gaining air supremacy, not just air superiority. B-52 bombers out of Guam will then head toward Iran and destroy their nuclear reactors from high altitude with the 30,000-pound bunker buster bombs called 'Massive Ordnance Penetrator' [MOP]. The MOP also referred to as “The Mother of All Bombs” is designed to drill through 200 feet of reinforced concrete before detonating its massive warhead. It is the biggest conventional, non-nuclear, weapon in the American arsenal.

Once destruction of Iran's nukes are ensured, the war ends. There would be no need of any ground invasion as the war aim would have been achieved. Phase III would only be launched in the event of Iran closing the shipping lanes in the Straits of Hormuz, for which a U.S. Marine division and an airborne division have been kept at stand-by. This would probably not materialize before D plus 3.

I therefore really don't understand as to what this 30,000 US casualty figure on day one is all about!

I think that's hyperbolic , But If that war happens the US casualties would be more than Vietnam during war and a lot more if they want to occupy the whole country like in Afghanistan or Iraq . No doubt in it .
