All 5 European countries are not NATO countries. I did not count Finland because Finnish is not a European language even though Finland is an EU country. I did not count Ireland because too weak. I did not count Serbia because too weak.

The country was declared to be neutral post WWII. They didn't even have "proper" jets until the 80s. They got some Drakens then and even those too didn't have any air to air missiles in the beginning.

Even now they are planning to sell their Typhoons for a cheaper fighter

(To the OP) You obviously decided New Zealand isn't part of the developed world because.... reasons....

We don't have any combat jets, which would mean we have the least number of combat jets per capita in the developed world (equal alongside the Republic of Ireland).

You'll probably argue that, like Ireland and Serbia, we're too weak and don't count.

Good point. I stand corrected. I used to live in New Zealand. Dunedin. Terrific country. Terrific people.

I wouldn't call Ireland "weak" by any means.

Following their own independence following centuries of British control they have created a powerhouse and their society in general is very progressive. Compare Ireland to North Ireland, Scotland or even Wales, all of which have to be propped up by England.

Despite the small size, Ireland seems to resist manipulation by the likes of EU and US. They still haven't caved in to EU about the corporation tax and vocally support Palestine despite being close with the Americans, economically and culturally.

And as mentioned by Kaptaan, the country is stunning. It's called emerald isle for a reason.

Did you study there? Not many other reasons to go that far south.

I think at one stage we had the worlds most advanced A-4 Skyhawks (which is like saying we have the worlds most advanced clothes pegs), once they were mothballed back in the 90's our air-force has been without any combat aircraft.

So yet again (referring to your original post), we in New Zealand get forgotten about. We're sometimes left off maps and atlases. But that isn't such a bad thing, if the rest of the world starts dropping bombs on each other, they'll forget to send us any.

I used to live in Dunedin from age 10 to 12 back in mid 90s.

The Prime Minister of Ireland recently declared that they will close their airspace to the UK in the event of a no deal brexit.

What he had forgotten was that Ireland has no way to enforce that directive. They can announce it, but that is not the same as policing it and making sure it happens.

The airspace west of Ireland is controlled by the UK for civilian traffic and the Irish has signed a deal that will allow the RAF to freely roam their airspace if they feel that an aircraft may be affected due to terrorism related issues.

Ireland is a non-state as far as having control over her airspace goes as she cannot enforce anything...

Given the recent behaviour of Ireland towards the UK, we should immediately stop policing their airspace!!!!!! ( Why the hell should UK TAX PAYERS PROVIDE FREE AIRSPACE PROTECTION TO IRELAND ?? What is in it for the UK?? Shameful waste of UK tax payer money by the UK Gov/RAF if you ask me... We should bill them everytime the RAF has to do this! I have a real issue with UK tax payers paying for this, while Ireland can reglect this responsibility and then use that saved money to provide public services that are denied to UK citizens...)

Russia scare

This was proven last year when Russian ‘Bear’ bomber aircraft – one reportedly carrying an inert nuclear device – entered Irish controlled airspace with transponders switched off. These aircraft were intercepted by RAF fighter planes and shadowed as they probed our ‘air defences’ and reaction times.

You've got to be damn stupid to go to war with a much loved country like Ireland.

After London people from around the world love to go to Ireland then any other place in or around the UK. (i didnt say UK for obvious reasons as Ireland isnt part of UK)

It's because there isn't any need for any. Ireland has no conflict with anyone in the world. There is some friction between Ireland and England due to the colonial history but it's negligible. If any country was silly enough to want to attack Ireland, the UK would have something to say about it.

Ireland has more free travel arrangements than the UK. It's better to have an Irish passport than a British one.

Why should we have anything to "say" about it.. why should we in the UK care if anything happens to Ireland given the hostility that the Irish have for the UK ???

Lol, do whatever you want. Brexit has been tremendously beneficial to Ireland as high tech corporations are moving their operations here thanks to the uncertainly over in the UK. We're set to grow at 4.8% this year.

Thank you! :partay:

Because of the proximity of Ireland to the UK. Can you imagine what would happen if Ireland was to allow a foreign country to use Shannon as a base against the UK. It's not like you patrol our airspace out of goodwill, you do it because it's in your interests and we're kind enough to let you.
