Here’s a thought. “back” no one. Do trade with both countries and keep cordial relations with both. Just because someone is “Muslim” doesn’t mean Iran needs to be “backing” them. This isn’t Gang wars.

Describing anything as a Muslim issue gains little purchase any more. Just look at how the Saudis regard the Kashmir issue. This old language is useless.

Kashmir's occupation is in fact a "Hindutva" issue and the same Hindutva regards Iranians as completely expendable, hence their toeing of the American line during the recent engagement.

Kashmir would have simply naturally acceded to Pakistan a long time ago if it wasn't for the falsified concept of akhand Bharat.

The point I'm making is that aligning with Pakistan is far more strategically sensible than aligning with a volatile opportunistic backstabbing Indian regime, which on a whim will bracket Iran with its other Muslim enemies to simplify its policy decisions. Why should India defend Iran against American meddling?

A secular Iranian state would clearly be more in Indian interests than the present regime, because that state would not be restricted by USA in any way. India won't actively damage the Islamic Republic but it will stay very quiet if it suddenly collapses and will be first knocking on the door when the neo-Persians come to power.

That said, clearly Iran is in a precarious position politically and it must tread carefully.

India is one of the few countries that is able to negotiate with US against sanctions for importing oil from Iran. So yea, Iran would value India even if would not support the idea.

When US went hot on iran, india sat down silently looking the other way. While Pakistan with its stupid PM tried to broker peace, making our allies like saudi a bit nervous. Why are we wanting peace in iran at the expense of our allies and then these iranian hypocrites go and lick hindu balls????
